Let’s talk Terrigal - Council announces improvements for key

tourism hub

Central Coast Council will shortly commence consultation with the community on a series of projects

in and around the Terrigal commercial precinct.

Mayor Jane Smith said as Terrigal continues to grow as a popular destination for visitors and

Central Coast residents alike, Council is working to enhance the amenity of the area through the

delivery of major infrastructure and urban design projects.

“Throughout February, Council will be providing information to the community and seeking feedback

on key projects including changes to traffic flow through the Terrigal CBD and the installation of

smart parking sensors to improve parking in the area,” Mayor Jane Smith said.

“Once completed, these projects will improve traffic flow and parking as well as deliver

improvements to the general amenity of the area for tourists and residents alike.

“I encourage the community to come along to one of our Let’s Talk Terrigal information sessions

later this month.”

The works planned for Terrigal CBD valued at $2,209,000 have been funded through the NSW State

Government’s Stronger Communities Fund made available to all newly merged Councils.

The installation of smart parking sensors, including the development of a smartphone App that the

community can use to find their closest available parking space, has been made possible through a

grant of $114,000 from the Australian Government’s Smart Cities and Suburbs Program.

Council is also investigating further opportunities to improve parking in Terrigal as part of a region-

wide parking strategy and will be seeking community input as this is developed.

Information sessions will be held on Monday 26 February and Wednesday 28 February from 6.30pm

– 8.30pm at Terrigal Surf Club.

Detail about the plans and projects planned for Terrigal can be found at

www.yourvoiceourcoast.com

Community feedback is open until 2 March, 2018.

Over the next few years exciting improvements are planned for Terrigal with some kicking off in the next few months.

As Terrigal continues to grow as a popular destination for locals and visitors alike, Council is working to enhance the amenity of the area through the delivery of a number of infrastructure and urban design projects.

There is currently one project open for community comment, and a few more we’d like to tell you about.

You can find out more inside this brochure, by visiting yourvoiceourcoast.com or attending an information session.

CBD traffic flow improvementsOpen for consultationCommunity feedback is being sought on proposed changes to traffic flow and pedestrian access in the Terrigal CBD. A design has been developed using feedback received from the community as part of a study conducted in 2016. The proposed changes will be delivered in two stages.

Feedback on the designs is open until Friday 2 March.

Stage 1This stage involves the conversion of Campbell Crescent, Church Street and Kurrawyba Avenue to two-way traffic, installing signalised pedestrian crossings to better manage unrestricted pedestrian movements, road and footpath adjustments and introducing vehicle access restrictions along Terrigal Esplanade during peak times. Buses and emergency vehicles will be allowed access at all times.

Restricting vehicle access along Terrigal Esplanade during peak times will create a safer and more accessible area for pedestrians. The proposed restricted times would be in place between October to April from 6am to 8pm all days.

Stage 1 has been enabled by the NSW State Government’s Stronger Communities Funding made available to newly merged Councils. Council will consider community feedback to finalise the design. Construction is scheduled to commence in May 2018.

Stage 2Stage 2 involves raising and paving Terrigal Esplanade and a part of Hudson Lane to create a Shared Zone with a 10km/h speed limit.

This zone will significantly improve the public amenity and allow unimpeded pedestrian access between the beach and the shops. Stage 2 will also involve improving on-street parking spaces on Ash Street.

Council will display a refined design for Stage 2 later this year however funding for Stage 2 has not been allocated.

Terrigal parking updateThis year council will be installing approximately 270 smart parking sensors in Terrigal to help residents and visitors find parking spots faster and improve parking turn over in the CBD. The sensors will be installed at the Terrigal Surf Club car park and The Haven.

Drivers will also be able to download a free parking app to check parking availability before heading to Terrigal. This same app can also be used once the sensor system is installed in the Gosford CBD.

This is scheduled to be completed in 2019.

In addition to the introduction of parking sensors and traffic flow improvements, Council is currently investigating further opportunities to improve parking in Terrigal as part of a region-wide parking strategy. The community will have an opportunity to provide input into this strategy as it is developed.

Banjo’s Skate Park and Rotary Park playground upgradeAward-winning skate park and youth space designers, Convic, who designed and constructed Bato Yard Skate Park in Bateau Bay, have been awarded the tender to design and construct Banjo’s Skate Park in the south east corner of Terrigal Lagoon Reserve.

Due for completion mid this year, the new skate park will cater for local families and incorporate elements for both beginner and intermediate riders.

Until that time, the community can enjoy the new play equipment, park furniture and BBQ facilities at nearby Terrigal Rotary Park which continues to grow in popularity since opening in December 2017.

Terrigal rock pool The NSW Government has provided $250,000 from the Public Reserves Management Fund Program to assist with works at Terrigal Rock Pool.
