Term 4 Week 10 December 16, 2019 www.stjohnsprimarydubbo.catholic.edu.au From the Principal’s desk…. Welcome to Week 10 and the final week of this year. Last week we had the opportunity to say thank you and well done to our Year 6 students with their Graduation and Prize Giving. The Graduation at the RSL was a fun filled evening and it was a joy to see the children having so much fun together and with their parents. A big note of thanks to the Year 6 teachers, Ms Isbester and Mr Sayers for all of their organisation. I special note of thanks must go to Miss Teale for her cake creating skills. The end of Year Mass was a highlight last week. The children were reverent and the choir were simply amazing. Thank you Miss Lindsay for all of your dedication to the choir and to Mrs Clifford a huge note of thanks in planning such beautiful Masses. SPECIAL THANK YOU: To say a special thankyou, I would like to invite all people who have given their time to assist at the school to a special morning tea after the Christmas Nativity Liturgy led by Year 2 on Tomorrow 17th of December at 11:00am. Coffee and cake will be available in the staffroom. This will be a wonderful, wonderful opportunity to mingle with the staff and celebrate a great 2019 working in partnership. On behalf of our amazing staff, whose work and care for your child has been outstanding again this year, sincere best wishes to you and your family for the end of year. Weekly Gospel - Third Week of Advent - Matthew 11:2-11 New International Version (NIV)

When John, who was in prison, heard about the deeds of the Messiah, he sent his disciples to ask him, “Are you the one who is to come, or should we expect someone else?”

Jesus replied, “Go back and report to John what you hear and see: The blind receive sight, the lame walk, those who have leprosy

[a] are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised,

and the good news is proclaimed to the poor. Blessed is anyone who does not stumble on account of me.”

As John’s disciples were leaving, Jesus began to speak to the crowd about John: “What did you go out into the wilderness to see? A reed swayed by the wind?

If not, what did you go out to see? A man dressed in fine clothes?

No, those who wear fine clothes are in kings’ palaces. Then what did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I tell you,

and more than a prophet. This is the one about whom it is written:

VISION STATEMENT

To change the world through our faith in Jesus who is our light and hope.

“‘I will send my messenger ahead of you, who will prepare your way before you.’ Truly I tell you, among those born

of women there has not risen anyone greater than John the Baptist; yet whoever is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.

‘A greater than John the Baptist has never been seen.’

When asked if he was the one that John the Baptised preached was coming, Jesus points to the signs of his minis-try: the blind regaining their sight, the lame walking, lepers cleansed, hearing restored to the deaf, and the dead brought back to life.

I want to thank the staff for their hard work this year and the way they make a difference in the lives of our students every day. We are blessed at SJP to have teachers, office staff, learning support, canteen, grounds and the leader-ship team who go above and beyond.

I thank all the parents and grandparents for their support this year and working in partnership with us. Your support of our school and the way many families volunteer their time over the year is greatly appreciated.

I wish all families a restful and refreshing break and a very Merry Christmas! We look forward to seeing you in 2020. Kinder and Year 6 students return Wednesday, 29th of January and Grades 1 to 5 return Thursday, 30th of January.

God Bless and have a wonderful Christmas. Anthony O’Leary
