OUR EDUCATION WEEK AWARD WINNERS ...
MURRUMBIDGEE REGIONAL HIGH SCHOOL - MOVIE FUNDRAISER
In October, Australia will be hosting Polyfest for the first time. Polyfest was founded in New Zealand and is a competitive high school and college performing arts event of world indigenous and pacific Island performances. It was established to raise awareness of Polynesian cultures and positively increase sense of identity for students. At present, there are over 180 Pasifika students enrolled at Murrumbidgee Regional High School. Richard Wiseman and I are in the process of organising an excursion for 50 of our Pasifika students to attend Polyfest in Liverpool during this October long weekend. In order to keep costs low for our students and their families, we are hosting a movie screening of 'Angel Has Fallen' at Griffith City Cinemas on 28/08/19. I would like to take the opportunity to invite you all to this screening. Tickets are $20 each and can be purchased at the Griffith site school office or by contacting me on 0402162881. Please note that the movie is not recommended for persons under 15 years. Please find attached a flyer of our fundraiser if you wish to print and spread amongst your contacts. If you require any further information please do not hesitate to contact me. Thank you for your time. Kind regards,

3/4DM - A SELECTION OF POEMS ON ULURU...
Uluru I see the sun set and the colours fill the skies. The flaming sky and the burning hot sun. Shadows creep over the red and orange dirt. The wild animals eat the dry grass as the sun drops over the horizon. I feel the wind pushing the red and orange sand into my face, I feel the air getting colder. It wraps around me. Under my feet, I feel the rocks and minerals; they are hard. I feel joyful because Uluru is here for us all to see and enjoy, for generations to come. I hear wild animals fighting. I hear the winds blowing the grass. I hear the howling of the animals hunting in the desert. I hear whistling and birds tweeting. I can smell eucalyptus leaves and smoke from campfires. I can smell the remains of dead animals after they have been killed. I can smell the fires burning the sand and grassland and the wild berries growing. By Kade Tropeano
Uluru As the flaming sun slowly drops over the horizon,
colours fill the sky.
The spinifex grasses go from brown to black as the
sun shadows their figures. As I watch the sun set, I
feel the bad spirits drift out of my head when they
are all gone I am calm, fresh and grateful.
The distant howls of the dingoes echo through the
night breeze. The rustling of the animals awake me
from my slumber. As I scavenge around the grass I
find bush tomatoes, salt bush and native herbs.
The fumes of herbs and steak fill the night air.
Smoke from the campfire wraps around me like a
blanket.
By Kate Parker
Uluru In the sight of my eyes is a solid, crumbly dry outback. The sun slowly drops down over the horizon as the animal’s die of thirst. As the sun slowly drops down, the cold breeze wraps around my skin making me shiver. It felt like all the dangerous spirits are forcing me to sleep. The sound in my ears is the air whooshing past me when I walk across the desert looking for food. I hear the birds in the dehydrated trees tweeting lullabies to their chicks to calm them down and the dingoes howling in the black night sky with their packs. On my tongue I feel the dry hot sand put there by the breeze whooshing in my face. I can almost taste the melted chocolate of s’mores by the bonfire. In my nose are smells of smoke from fires burning the ground, and remains of animals that have been hunted by other wild animals. By Layla Abera Crowe
Sand blows around and softly lands on my tongue. It’s dry and warm and has a little crunch to it. The cold breeze freezes My tongue like a long Ice cube in my mouth. The sand is smelly from the camel dung. The air fills with the smell of oil from Eucalyptus leaves. The smoke from the burning fire floats to my nose. I can smell the stink of dead animals.
By Liam Williams
ULURU A dark shadow slowly Creeps over the hot orange Sand as the sun floats Down under the horizon. The sky fades away To a dark gloomy black. In the night. The heat bursts down on my Tongue but the sun is going Down and now I feel a Cool breeze blowing in my Face. The sand cools down and softens I’m calm and relaxed The sound of swishing Sand blows around the desert. Animals scuttling into The sand waiting for Their prey to walk by their hiding spot. Dead leaves rustling by animals of all sorts.
MRS BAIRD
In 1/2C this term we are learning about moving things. We are designing our own toys. Firstly,
on paper and then creating them out of objects in the room. We then tested our first creation, which was a bubble blower. We
then realised that we could have improved the design, which we did. It will be interesting to evaluate the results!
5/6CB - MRS CALLINAN/MRS BRAITHWAITE
STAFF IN THE SPOTLIGHT - MRS DAL BROI
Ash Barty is ranked No. 1 in the world in singles by the Women's Tennis Association and is the second Australian to hold this top ranking after Evonne Goolagong Cawley.

Dr Anita Hiess is a famous Aboriginal writer who has made people happier with amazing writing.
Ms Dal Broi thrives in her role in the office and library and especially likes to ensure all students feel valued and cared for. Ms Dal Broi has a passion for keeping fit and healthy and loves watching her 4 boys play soccer.
In 5/6CB, We have been researching about famous Indigenous, Australian women. We have been learning about their achievements throughout their life, their inspirations, their life changing moments and even just their everyday lives. With this research we are creating 3-4 minutes speeches to present to our class with visuals in the background. We are learning how to present speeches with eye contact, tone, different forms of language and much more. Some significant women are:
SHAVE FOR LEUKAEMIA
Flynn Edis (Year 6); a fighting survivor of Leukaemia, is shaving his head on the 20th September to raise funds for the Leukaemia Foundation. Please help him reach his goal!! Miss Simone Amaro will be allowing Flynn to choose any colour to dye her hair in support of this great cause (He has chosen bringt pink) Flynn’s goal is to raise $2000 and he is already well on the way to achieving this. Let’s support him and hopefully exceed his goal. You are able to sponsor him through a donation at our school or go to our Facebook page and donate directly via the link. It is great to see so many of our community already supporting him and this very personal journey.
