[email protected] Message from the Principal I would like to extend a very warm thank you to all students, parents and families who have welcomed me over the last two weeks to the Pretty Beach Public School community. For those whom I haven’t yet met, I am delighted to introduce myself as Principal of PBPS, Mrs Karen Wardlaw. I am so pleased to be in the position of leading such a school, supporting a great team of teachers and investing in the lives of our student. I look forward to getting to know families a little better as the term progresses. I have been very impressed by the calm and settled start to the term by all students and acknowledge the wonderful sense of community support that is tangibly evident within the school. I am slowly getting to know student names and faces and have been made to feel quite special by their interest in getting to know me and, in the process, sharing a little about themselves, too. I have been impressed by the wonderful good manners and articulate conversational skills of our students and the friendly welcome I have received in every classroom I have visited. I also had the pleasure of attending the 2019 Festival of Instrumental Music at the Sydney Opera House this week and cheering loudly as the name of Pretty Beach Public School was called out! Once again, the talent of the NSW Public School students showcased in this prestigious event was staggering. Congratulations to Teddy, Oscar, Sari and Thorne who represented the school admirably in the NSW Combined Strings Ensemble, performing a complex repertoire. A very proud principal moment for me to see our students on stage! Karen Wardlaw Principal What’s Happening at PBPS? The meal they prepared for us was Pizza Lettuce Wraps, yummy! The ingredients were: lettuce, salami, cherry tomatoes, basil, oregano and cheese. The oregano and basil was proudly and freshly picked from our school garden! Written by Lucy M Premiers Debating Challenge Congratulations to our Debating team for 2019 who have completed the Premiers Debating Challenge for this year. We had our final debate this week against Kincumber Public School. We were the negative team for the topic ‘All teachers need to participate in sport and exercise with their students at school’ We were able to come up with many reasons as to why teachers may not be able to participate but unfortunately we were defeated by the opposition. Thank you to the all students who participated in debating this year as well as the other schools, teachers and adjudicators for all your effort with the program. It’s wonderful to see many students participating in debating and learning lifelong skills. Ms McKinney Debating Coordinator Athletics Carnival
