Term 3 Reflection

This term has created many memorable memories. We have all had a great

time and learnt many things. This term we got to meet Morris Gleitzman and

have him do a speech to us. His speech was amazing. He talked to us about his

books and his multicultural experiences. It was amazing. We all got a signed

copy of Boy Overboard. A family is forced to migrate to Australia. It is about

how soccer brings the family together. They end up safely making it to

Australia but just. In Science we have done two new assignments on our new

science unit. The Great Barrier Reef. For our first assignment we had to make a

poster on the Great Barrier Reef. For our second assignment we had to make a

PowerPoint on an animal of our choice. They have to be from the Great Barrier

Reef obviously. In French this term we had to design an eco-friendly house and

label all of the eco-friendly features. We were allowed to draw it, make it out

of Lego or use Google sketch up. I used Google sketch up and I loved this

project. We also did some vocabulary on scenery and the weather in French. In

Art we have made oil pastel pictures or our favourite game. I did Need for

Speed: Most Wanted. It was really cool and after we got to design a stain glass

window and make colour-matics. They’re like magic except with some simple

art behind them. In Music we learnt some keyboard and started a study on

Gustav Holst and his famous pieces called the Planets. We listened to some of

them and wrote some notes on them and why they were the way they were...

Maths

This term we have done so many things in Maths. We have

done coordinates, grid references. We have done integers

and dividing with decimals. My favourite thing this term was

squared and cubed numbers even though we only did it for

one week. I struggled a little bit with integers only because I

got confused with the double negatives. In our topic test I

scored 48/51 but we redid two parts of the test. We had a

separate test on dividing decimals and equivalent fractions. It

had 21 questions but I only got 19. I got everything right

except two of the decimal questions. I had all of the right

numbers except I forgot to put the decimals because I rubbed

them out. This term we have also done some worksheets on

money called (money word problems) The questions weren’t

hard just it was very annoying because the questions were

quite repetitive. You had to add the same over and over and

you have to scroll back up to read the prices. All up this term

has been excellent for Maths except I was very disappointed

with my scores in the second topic test. This term I have also

been part of the extension group. We have completed some

incredibly challenging question and have had a great time

while doing so. I have been very proud with my scores in

extension as well.

Page 5: Term 3 Reflection

These have been my scores for the past 9 olympiads. Each olympiad is out of

five so I my total is 44 out of 45.

English

This term in English we have done many things. We have

done text responses which are not exactly replies but more

like your thoughts on the text. You must also include the

facts that have been stated in the text. We did a text

response together as a class on the topic Car should be

banned in the Melbourne CBD to reduce pollution. We only

managed to the introduction and the first paragraph but over

the 4 periods we made it an excellent text response. Later in

the week we dot to choose an article from 5 different articles.

Then we had to practise planning it. After that practise we

read through and highlighted all the important things from a

different article called Great Expectations, as a class. Then as

an assessment we had to do a plan for it as individuals. We

also analysed some articles and did a fun activity where we

had to guess what the article was about by just looking at the

picture that was with it. Also near the end of the term we

worked on our speeches for public speaking.

Sharing the Planet:

This term we have done 2 different units of inquiry. My

favourite unit of inquiry has been Sharing the Planet. It was

about how we were affecting the planet and how we can

stop climate change. For our assignment for Sharing the

Planet we had to choose a type of renewable energy source

and propose to build it to power the whole of Casey. I chose

Biomass. Biomass can be burnt up to heat water instead of

coal. There are many types of Biomass but a main one is

rubbish. So biomass is perfect for a sustainable future

because with a population rise comes a rubbish rise.

How we Express Ourselves:

How we express ourselves has been our second unit of

inquiry this term. We only did it for the last few weeks

because we have been preparing tirelessly for our exhibition

next term. We had to make a powerpoint called Music to

Facial expressions. We had to take a photo of ourselves

showing different expressions and then had to match music

with it. That music must have made you feel that way. The

assignment for How we express ourselves was to write a

script and present it as a play.

Page 9: Term 3 Reflection

This is what we were marked on for my presentation on Bio-

mass.

These are the facial expressions we were required to do.

Specialist

Our specialists like all other terms have been Music, Science, PE, French and

Art. Music:

In music this term we have studied the life of Gustav Holst and his famous

collection of pieces called the Planets. For example Mars; The bringer of War.

There are 7 planets but we only got to listen to 5. Mars, Uranus, Mercury,

Neptune, Jupiter, Saturn and Venus. We listened to these pieces and took

notes on all the ones we listened to. We also got to watch Bernard; A clumsy

Polar bear who gets himself into trouble quite a lot. We then listened to one of

the Planets but weren’t told which one. Then we had to write a story that we

thought could be matched by that Planet.

Science:

This term in Science we have done the Great Barrier Reef. We have done two

assignments on the Great Barrier Reef. For our first assignment we had to

make a poster on the coral that lives in the Great Barrier Reef and the Great

Barrier Reef altogether. For the second we had to choose an animal that lives

in the Great Barrier Reef and present it. We had to say all aspects of our

chosen animal and how it was being affected by global warming.

PE:

In physical education this term we have done the sports Lacrosse and Rugby

bot Union and League. As we are still in primary school we are not allowed to

tackle in games but we learnt the skills required to make a proper tackle. Both

classes weren’t very good at the start because most of us are used to AFL. We

struggled at the start but after Mr Kemperman showed us some real rugby

matches we got the hang of and produced some very good games. Lacrosse

was as difficult for me as rugby. I struggled with keeping the lacrosse stick in

the cradle position when in possession of the ball but eventually I was able to

overcome this weakness.

Page 11: Term 3 Reflection

French:

In French this term we have focused on landscape and weather. For our

assignment this term we had to design an eco-friendly house. We could have

built it out of Lego, drawn it or used Google sketchup. For the past few weeks

all the year 6’s have worked extremely hard on their houses. I am extremely

proud of my house. I have spent almost 48 hours on it. I have put in as much

detail as possible and will keep on working on it. I don’t see it as work but as a

piece of art.

Art: In art this term we have done so many things. We have accomplished real

beauty. In art this every year 6 has created a work of art. For the first five or 6

weeks all of year 6 has worked on an oil pastel drawing of a scene from their

favourite game. I chose Need For Speed: Most Wanted. I chose a Lamborghini

parked in a Safe House in the City. I tried but I failed. It was too difficult for

only a master could accomplish so much detail. Instead I did an easier picture.

A Lamborghini on a highway in the desert with skyscrapers in the background.

We had just completed learning about perspective so I chose to use some and

to make the picture not to bland I drew to vertical lines which met at the same

point on a horizontal near the top of the page. They got wider as the went to

the bottom of the page and so I just had to draw the tumbleweeds and trees as

big as the lines. Therefore it looked like the closer they were to the bottom of

the page the bigger they were.

O

This is a top view of my French House. It has many eco-

friendly features but they’re mostly under my house so they

are out of sight.

PYP

This term I have shown as many PYP attitudes and learner profiles as possible. I

could talk about the times I have shown the attitudes and profiles but

something that I have learnt to do over the past three terms has been to

reflect. Over the past I have made the same careless mistakes whether it be in

Maths, English, or other subjects. So reflection is very important. One must

reflect on one’s mistakes and ensure they do not suffer making the same

mistake a second time. Constantly I have forgotten to put a decimal, read the

question correctly or even forget to check my answers once I have finished.

Over the past three terms I have had a dozen maths tests, a dozen English tests

and over a dozen assignments over the board. Many times I have not gotten

the score I have wanted too. Many times I have received the highest in my

class. Many times I have forgotten to do some part of something and then

have had to rush it. The only reason I don’t make the same mistake over and

over is that I have learnt to reflect over the things I have done. Think about the

past and let it affect your future. I make sure I don’t make the same mistake

but sometimes it’s just a brain error. Sometimes I make new mistakes. This

puts me down but when I think about it it’s just funny. People never think they

could make such a silly mistake until they actually do. Keep in mind to not

make the same mistake again but this doesn’t mean you forget how do

everything else. When I fail I don’t give up. Sure I get sad but it makes me more

pumped to do well next time. Same as assignments. Also if one does well it is

not a reason to go easy but a reason to train harder to keep that record. Like

Michael Jordan once said “It is because I fail I succeed.” My motto in life is

simple. Keep Moving Forward.
