Dear Parents, Teachers and Friends, This Sunday is Father’s Day, a day when we celebrate the men in our lives. The English have a proverb which states that, “One Father is more than a hundred schoolmasters”. Anonymous has a contribution that might well be appropriate of fathers: “To the world you might be one person, to one person you might just be the world”. However there is one undeniable truth that is expressed so well through the words of a child: “My dad thinks he wears the trousers in our house but it’s mum who tells him which pair to put on”. Fatherhood is one of the great privileges in a man’s life for it enables him to be the first male in a child’s life; of course, this leads to the life-long responsibility of parenthood. Ian Grant in his book, “Fathers who dare WIN”, offers this insight: “The greatest legacy a man can leave in the world is not so much a great business, but a ‘living’ investment in the future, through loving, stable employable and healthy children. Parents are the ultimate ‘people builders’. The fine expectations you have of your children, the skills you teach them, and the values you model for them will be the bricks and mortar of great future citizens.” Happy Father’s Day NAPLAN REPORTS Next week, the children involved in NAPLAN this year will be receiving their NAPLAN Reports. Whilst results can vary due to testing day conditions and exam readiness, NAPLAN assessments can indicate a child’s progress in literacy and numeracy. The results indicate a child’s cumulative understandings since Kindergarten; they do not represent that child’s development for the year they undertake the test. Middle School News Congratulations to all concerned for a very successful and enjoyable Athletics Carnival last week. Special recognition to all the students from Years 4 – 10 who participated with great sportsmanship and to the staff and parents who ensured the smooth running of the Carnival. Thank you to Mr Willison who coordinated the whole event so well and congratulations to Stirling who took out top honours, as well as all the individual Champions and Runner-ups who competed so closely and so honourably. The ACC Camp is underway and will leave this weekend for four days away. The team will stay at Clontarf to keep costs down and for the Year 7 students, it will be their first Middle School camp away. Excitement all around! Photos and news to follow. The staff had their Corporate Shoot last weekend with some amazing results and everyone managed to hit their targets! From pistols to shotguns, the staff had an opportunity to hit flying targets, metallic silhouettes and turning targets to hone their precision, speed and well … to make a lot of noise. Well done to Mrs Petera and to the CDSSA club for a fantastic weekend of firearms awareness and sporting shooting fun! Year 10s have been completing the second round of the OLNA testing which will enable them to achieve literacy and numeracy competency for their WACE. They are also very busy preparing for their Cambodia Presentation evening on Thursday 18 September.

Good luck to the team leaving this weekend! ♫“We are St Mary’s, mighty, mighty, Mary’s!”♫

God Bless

Inter school Athletics Carnival A fantastic day was had by all at our recent Interschool Athletics Carnival. We were blessed with perfect weather that helped lift our student’s spirits as they poured heart and soul into their events. Great participation and outstanding sportsmanship were displayed showcasing the outstanding students that we have here at St Mary’s School. A special thanks to all those parents who attended and especially those that assisted the staff to run the carnival. Also a special thanks to our year 10 students who conducted the events on the day. Great leadership and excellent role models for our younger students. Our next major event will be the ACC Athletics carnival at challenge stadium in Perth on Monday the 8th September.
