KEARNS NEWS
FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear Parents/ Caregivers,
Welcome back to Term 3! It has been a great start to what will be both an exciting and busy term of learning. As I look at
the school calendar, it is great to see we have many exciting events, excursions and incursions planned.
This term we have also launched our school Facebook and Twitter Page. These are additional communication tools which
will provide our families with information regarding classroom learning, events and student achievements. The SchoolBag
App, Kearns PS Website and Newsletter will continue to operate as normal. A ‘Permission to Publish Note” was sent out
earlier this term , so all student records can be updated. We look forward to sharing our learning journey with you.

Attendance is a major focus for all schools; we know there is a direct relationship between attendance and school results
and achievement later in life. The Home School Liaison Officer visits regularly throughout the term to review our attend-
ance and help us improve the attendance of students who have missed school without a valid reason. If children miss a
day, they are missing important learning. Every day is important. Every session is important. Please make sure that your
child has the best opportunity to learn by coming to school every day.

The Tell Them From Me student survey (Term 3, 2018)
I am delighted that this term, our school, like many other public schools in the state, will participate in a De-
partment of Education initiative: the Tell Them From Me student feedback survey. The survey measures fac-
tors that are known to affect academic achievement and other student outcomes. The focus of the NSW-wide
survey is on student wellbeing, engagement and effective teaching practices.
The survey is a great opportunity for our students to provide us with valuable and quick feedback on what
they think about school life, how engaged they are with school and the different ways that teachers interact
with them. More than 6,300 schools in Australia and around the world have used Tell Them From Me to sur-
vey 5.4 million students. Capturing the voices of our students will help improve how we do things at our
school.
More information about the survey is available at: http://surveys.cese.nsw.gov.au
I want to assure you that the survey is confidential. The survey is conducted online and will typically take less
than 30 minutes to complete. It will be administered during school hours between 27 August and 26 October.
Participating in the survey is entirely voluntary.
A consent form and FAQs for parents/carers about the survey is being sent home with students. If you do not
want your child or children to participate, please return the form to school by FRIDAY 17 August, 2018. Copies
of the form and FAQs are available from: http://surveys.cese.nsw.gov.au/information-for-parents.
The consent form and FAQs are available in 23 languages.

TERM THREE REVIEW:
KINDERGRATEN 100 DAYS OF LEARNING
On Tuesday 24 July ,we celebrated 100 days of learning with KB. We have loved being a part of their learning
journey and are very proud of how much they have grown as learners over the past 100 days. We can’t wait
to see what is next for these children!
THE NED SHOW- Never Give Up, Encourage Others and Do your Best.
On Friday 10th August,
Kearns Public school
watched a special perfor-
mance called the NED
Show. The NED show fo-
cused on three important messages: Never Give Up,
Encourage Others and Do your Best. During the as-
sembly, students learnt the importance of these skills
while also enjoying storytelling, humour and yo-yo
tricks. Children now have an opportunity to purchase
a NED yo-yo or merchandise. These items will be avail-
able from today until Friday 17th August. (These are
optional items and may be purchased at the front
office. CASH ONLY)

EDUCATION DAY AND BOOKWEEK
Thank you to the many families who attended our Education and Book Week Day on Thursday. It was wonder-
ful to see so many children dressed up as their favourite book characters. The children are very lucky to have
such talented parents! We also had lovely feedback from our community about the activities and engagement
in our classrooms. The students thrive on opportunities to showcase their work with their families.
'Today's schools – creating tomorrow's world’
A special thank you to Mrs Scott for organising such a great day and coordinating a very successful book fair.
Thank you everyone for your
support with the Fiver for a
Farmer initiative. At the book-
week parade we collected over
$300. Your generosity is most
appreciated.
We look forward to supporting
this initiative further on Mon-
day.

Congratulations to all children who received their STARBURST AWARD last term. Mrs Endicott was very hon-
oured to present these certificates to our learners. Unfortunately, not all children were photographed due to
early departures and absences.
