Dear Parents and Carers, FROM THE PRINCIPAL

This Friday we celebrate the Feast of the Sacred Heart. This feast was an important feast to St Margaret Mary (for whom our school is named). The devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus can be a difficult concept to understand and for children we talk about the loving heart of Jesus always being with us. Jesus’ heart of love was so strong that we can still see this in today’s world through other people, our environment and the care of our community. We are looking forward to celebrating this feast with a whole school Mass on Friday in the Church.

Safety

Most days I have the wonderful job of greeting children in the morning as they are dropped off on Eldon St. Most afternoons I also supervise students as they are leaving the school grounds.

I am alarmed at the disregard for children’s safety that I have seen recently.

Please…

1. ALWAYS use the school crossing and safety crossing points

2. ALWAYS use the designated, supervised drop off and pick up points on Eldon St and Tungara Ave

3. Obey street/parking signs – they are there to ensure visibility and traffic flow

4. Do NOT let your child get out of the car unless you have pulled over safely (I have seen children getting out of cars as parents are waiting at the crossing, in the middle of the road!)

5. Children should only exit your car on the passenger side.

Most of all – please be patient. Your child’s safety is worth a few minutes of waiting.

Thank you for assisting us with the safety of all children.

Just a reminder that Monday 14th June is a public holiday. I hope you are able to enjoy the long weekend. We will see you all on Tuesday 15th June.

Thank you for your continued support,

Kelly Campbell

We wish the following

students who celebrate a

birthday in June a very

happy and blessed

birthday:

Our school has been a hive of activity this term and it has been wonderful as I have been able to get into classes to see all the fantastic learning taking place by the students.

Our Year 5/6 students have two special opportunities coming up with the Lacrosse carnival this week, and then our choir has a hub assessment in Week 8 as they are busily preparing for the Festival Choir performance at the Festival Theatre at the end of Term 3.

Building Works

The new building space is taking shape and we have had multiple deliveries of wood and steel over the past few weeks. The builders are continuing to be busy, and we are hopeful that in the coming weeks we should hopefully see the roof start to be built – this will be especially useful as we head into the colder and potentially wetter weather.

Playtime

A challenge for our students during this building project has been the impact on play space that the temporary fencing surrounding the site has had on what they can do. This challenge has taught our students to look after their equipment. If balls go over the fence then they cannot always get them back straight away as it depends on where the builders are and what they are doing. Where a challenge presents itself our students have been creative in finding solutions to the problem and coming up with different ways to play whilst sharing a space. One such solution from students across all year levels is to use the dress up boxes to come up with crazy costumes for a fashion show, or to dress as a superhero for imaginative play. This is a fantastic way for our students to show off their creativity, work collaboratively and share with the community their personalities. I wonder what crazy outfits our students will create next!

A reminder that this coming weekend is a long weekend with Monday being a public holiday so there is no school, preschool or OSHC. I hope you have a wonderful three day break, and we will see you on Tuesday next week for another busy week of school.

Kind Regards,

Josh Page

Sacred Heart of Jesus

This Friday the school will celebrate the Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus with a whole school Mass. You are

welcome to join us for this important feast of the Catholic Church. It is an especially important feast for our

school as well, with St Margaret Mary being inspired by the Sacred Heart in her life. She was able to share the

message of Jesus’ love for people in her time by encouraging them to turn to his loving and compassionate

heart for strength and inspiration. This feast reminds us that Jesus loved all people he came to know, even

when they disagreed with him and his teachings. He was able to show compassion in the most difficult of

circumstances which was challenging for some people. We can follow this example in our own lives as we try to

show compassion and love, especially at times when it seems like it is the hardest thing to do.

Class Mass

Our next class Mass will be held on Thursday 17th June at 9.15am at St Margaret Mary’s Church. Year 2AL and

Year 3/4MK will be our hosts. You are most welcome to come and celebrate with us, please remember to sign in

on the register at the entrance.

Common fruit and vegetables without restrictions

You can continue to enjoy all fruit and vegetables, including those at risk of fruit fly, if you understand and follow the restrictions.

Many other fruit and vegetables are not affected by the restrictions. These are the common and seasonal fruit and

Sharing our produce

As you would have seen in previous newsletters, Helen Psaila and a group of our students have been busy in our veggie patch,

caring for and producing a number of yummy vegetables. We would like to be able to share these with our community, so we

will be holding a ‘Veggie Swap’ coffee morning on Friday mornings outside the Parish hall. We invite you to bring in any surplus

fruit and vegetables as well to swap with other members of our school and parish community. If you are bringing anything to

swap, please refer to the Fruit Fly restriction list included with the newsletter to determine what can and cannot be shared in

our region. We will begin this in Week 8, Friday 18th June.

If you would like to help either with our Veggie Swap stall or in the garden with Helen and the students, please let us know via

the front office. We are always excited to welcome new community members who would like to take more of an active role in

our school community.

Rock and Water

This year the Receptions have been participating in a program called

Rock and Water. Each week we go with Mr Hillard and learn strategies

to help us develop friendships, become resilient and self-manage our

behaviour.

3 Key Learning Points of Rock and

Water:

Focus – helps us listen and observe

Grounded – keeps us strong

Belly Breaths – keeps us calm

“Rocks are strong, Water is being a

friend” - Natalie

“We learn to focus” - Kady

“We learn how

to work with a

partner” – Harry

“Respect” – Andrew. Respecting

each other is a big part of being

friends.
