WELL DONE

It’s a busy time of the year with sporting events, leadership and excursions. Well done to

the staff, students and P&C for another successful Athletics Carnival. Our school captains

attended the Grip Leadership Day at Newcastle University last Wednesday. It was an

opportunity to work with other school leaders and learn about what it takes to be a

leader. They will be attending a local leadership event at Rutherford Technology High

school tomorrow with our Stage 3 SRC members.

Ms Hunt and I attended the Maitland AECG meeting last Tuesday (as we do twice a term).

We got some new and fresh ideas and contacts to help make our annual NAIDOC

celebrations more engaging.

Don’t forget all our families are welcome to attend the Joseph Maxwell VC Park

dedication next Wednesday 31 May starting at 1pm.

Congratulations to the wonderful students

who represented Gillieston Public School at

the Zone Cross Country at Tocal last week.

It’s lovely to hear from the official

organisers of the event how well mannered

our children were, showing great

sportsmanship too. Well done!

Thank you to all the families who supported

the students and well done to Miss Warby.

Those representative shirts look fabulous.

FANTAILS

Classroom Capers ************************

Please check for head lice regularly.

GUPPIES

No gaps or overlaps!! In

maths the Guppies have

learnt how fun

measuring can be. We

had a great time using

counters to see who

had the longest and the

shortest foot.

How many cubes long is my smelly shoe? The Fantails measured the length of their

shoes using unifix blocks. We had to remember ‘no gaps and no overlaps’.

Bus travellers must have their Opal Card.

CLOWNFISH

BLUETANGS

Last week the Blue Tangs made

Polar Bear sculptures during art.

Linkan and Nakita explained that

they had to follow a set of

instructions.

1. Roll into a ball

2. Break into three parts

3. We used a pencil to mark out

the eyes and mouth

The children enjoyed this activity.

Thankyou Mrs Honan for making us

playdough! It was fun!!!

The Clownfish had a fantastic time at the

Athletics Carnival, and many of us are

looking forward to next year, when we may

get to qualify for Zone. We followed

instructions carefully all day long, and we

were always in the right place at the right

time so that we didn’t miss any of our

events. Here are 3 of our star participants

from the day. They did their best and had a

go at everything!

BARRAMUNDI

SHARKS

Did you know? Children can catch worms from not washing their hands with soap!

This week the students have been

getting creative while learning about

informative texts. They have learnt

the different types of informative

texts and are presenting their

research about animals in innovative

ways, like videos.

It’s heating up in the Sharks classroom

this term with our Science unit. Our

little inventors have been busy

designing, constructing and promoting

their very own cooling off product. Take

a look at this Mini Water Robot which

follows you around and sprays cold

water on your face when you’re too

hot, so cool!

ANGELFISH and HAMMERHEADS Peer Support News

Congratulations to our senior students who are being fantastic Peer Support leaders.

This week’s focus was about knowing what our strengths are in ourselves and in others.

We talked about Curiosity, Kindness and Teamwork. We also played a funny game with

our peer support group. Thank you peer support leaders who are working really hard

and showing some excellent leadership skills.

Our PBL focus for this week is:

This week the Guppies showed us the demonstration of our PBL. Captain Gillo thinks

this is one of the best demonstrations of this PBL. Great job Guppies!

Take care of people and property

Kind regards,

Captain Gillo!
