Message from the Principal Congratulations to all of our Year 3 & 5 students who completed the 2019 NAPLAN tests last week. Thank you also to the staff who accommodated the tests and were flexible with their class arrangements during this busy time. The tests were completed successfully and we look forward to using the data provided in October to evaluate our teaching programs and practices and continually improve learning experiences at our school. Our Principal position has now closed and our panel of representatives have been working their way through applications to interview potential applicants. We should have more information regarding the position and the successful Principal later in the term and will keep you notified as soon as we can. Stay tuned… Congratulations to our school Girls Soccer Team who represented our school today in the PSSA knockout competition and to the Stage 3 students who enjoyed the KHS Premier’s Sport Leadership Day. Best of luck to all of the students (2-6) who are attending tomorrow’s SCCPSSA Zone Cross Country Carnival. It’s bound to be another great day! Reminder: student representative hoodies are available for sale at this event for $50 cash only. There is no eftpos available at the carnival. We also have 24 students competing on Monday at the Central Coast Goalball Championships and we wish them all the best in their games. We hope the students enjoy their representative opportunities and have a great time competing with their peers. Thank you to the staff members who have taken their own time to train, convene and organise these opportunities and to the parents who come along to transport and support our students at these memorable events! Pretty Beach Public School, along with 13 other schools in the local area, form a Zone for school sport called the Southern Central Coast Primary School Sports Association (SCC PSSA). The SCCPSSA has recently created a Facebook page to help communicate information about upcoming Zone trials and carnivals, as well as posting results and photos from these events. We encourage you to like the page to stay up to date and support the Zone. Click on the following link:http://tiny.cc/2px46y or search in Facebook for:

Clever Kids Congratulations to the students who received Merit Awards at our last assembly. Term 2- Week 2 Kinder Hayley, Dash, Ryan, Millie Kinder/1 Lola, Eve, Matilda Yr 1/2 Blue Marlow, Vin, Ethan, Emily Yr 1/2 Red Misha, Bobbi, Leyah, Bodhi Yr 3 Lucy, Elliot, Nate Yr 4 Sebi, Noah, Sadie, Harvey Yr 5 Max, Vic, Joe, Zane Yr 6 Alex, Ryan, Kate, Kendall We need & appreciate your feedback! In response to several parent inquiries and discussions in PRI sessions, we have recently made changes to our afternoon dismissal procedures. We value your input and would really appreciate if you could please take 30 seconds to complete the following survey to inform us of your opinion regarding these changes. https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/Q3F5KDY
Also, our dedicated staff are about to embrace some additional Professional Learning to support and improve the mental health of our students. Pretty Beach Public School has established a Learning Community in the ‘Be You’ initiative led by Beyond Blue and funded by the Australian Government. To establish our learning community priorities, we are asking for your cooperation and contribution by completing the family survey using the following link: https://secure.peoplepulse.com.au/survey.php?mid=uNo38ypjA1yd2cg3n16fskyl98qq1 The Be You Family Survey is designed to help gather mental health and wellbeing-related perceptions of all parent and carers within our learning community. Responses gathered from parents and carers can help highlight what we are doing well, and what we can do better as part of our commitment to continuous improvement. •This survey takes approximately 15 minutes to complete and includes 26 questions. •Your responses are anonymous and only summarised results are used to help us better understand how to improve mental health and wellbeing in our learning community. •Although not every question may seem relevant to you, please answer each honestly and as best you can. The term learning community and learning environment refer to your child or young person’s school. •If you have several children and/or young people attending the learning setting, please respond to questions from an overall perspective. •The survey is not compulsory and you can skip questions if you want to. If you need more information about this survey before starting, please contact the school. Thank you in advance!
Our Skoolbag App - IMPORTANT In light of recent survey responses regarding our Skoolbag App, lots of parents are wondering why their device is not showing important school notifications. The reason for this is very simple… If you have unread notifications in Skoolbag, you will not be notified of new events/messages. To rectify this, please go to your Skoolbag App and click on ‘read all’. Your unread messages will become ‘read’ and you will begin to receive these important notifications again. If your friends are having this issue, please spread the word… If you do not have the Skoolbag App, please go to your App store and download the ‘Pretty Beach Public School Skoolbag’ App. This App is our best form of communicating updates, notices and reminders regarding important school events and opportunities for your child/ren. While you’re at it, jump onto Facebook and like our new Pretty Beach P&C page to keep informed of upcoming meetings, agenda items, notifications and posts… Mother’s Day Breakfast Thank you to Cathy Baker and the team at Belle Property Killcare who provided our Mother’s Day breakfast last week! Also, thanks to all of our mum’s and supporting parents who came and mingled and enjoyed the morning.
Our P&C Mother’s Day stall was also a big success and, thanks to Heather Musgrave and Iain Dooley, students loved shopping for some very thoughtful gifts to make mums feel super special.

Sensory Garden Have you seen the new plants in our sensory garden? As evident in the following photos it is being well used by our students at lunch time with lots of imaginary play taking place. The blackboard and our special tick-tack-toe game are also being well utilised. More developments are planned and we will be gradually adding to the garden as the year progresses.
Our old school sign is now a blackboard

This week we have been revising our PBL rules during Assembly. The secret teacher will be watching for the class who are consistently displaying Excellence, Respect and Responsibility by walking safely from class to the assembly area, Listening attentively to the teacher and/or fellow students and using the correct entry and exit points when entering the assembly area. Keep up the great work everyone!
NSW PSSA Girls Soccer Knockout What an absolute pleasure it was to witness our girls soccer team compete in the NSW PSSA Soccer Knockout today. Many of our team had never even played a game of soccer on a full-sized field and were amazing with their effort and attitude. The first game was destined for extra time, with the team deadlocked 4-4 against a mighty Empire Bay team. With a scramble in our penalty areas the girls unfortunately lost the game 5-4 with only 2 minutes to go. But this did not dampen their spirit! On the contrary, the girls were very gracious in defeat and were keen to back up with a mighty effort in the runners-up game. With amazing team work and fitness, the girls were eventually victorious 7-0 against an Ettalong team with some talented players! It was amazing to see the girls passing the ball around so well and sharing the goals and congratulating the other team at the completion of the game! I would like to thank the families and carers for their enthusiastic support of our girls and for helping to create a positive atmosphere for all. I could not be more proud of you all! Public Speaking Finals 2019
On 6 June, Thursday week 6, we will be holding our school’s public speaking finals from 9am-11am. Two students have been selected from each class to present their intriguing speeches to the whole school. From these speeches, two students from each stage will be selected to go on to represent our school at the Central Coast Public Speaking Competition in Term 3. Parents are welcome to attend. Good luck presenting students!

Walk Safely to School Day Walk Safely to School Day – 17 May 2019 Congratulations to all students, parents and carers who participated in Walk Safely to School Day on Friday 17 May 2019. Students were encouraged to walk to school to promote students and families being active and healthy in their everyday lives. Well done Pretty Beach Public School! Earn & Learn
Did you know we are taking part in the Woolworths Earn & Learn program? During the previous campaign in 2017, we were able to purchase some great resources with the points we earned and we hope to be able to do this once again.
The program concludes on 25 June 2019, so when shopping at Woolworths during the next month don’t forget to collect stickers that go towards Earn & Learn points. For every $10 you spend you will receive a sticker. These stickers can then be put on the special sticker card sent home at the beginning of the program. Once it is completed, simply bring it back here to school drop them into Woolworths collection box in the office. More sticker sheets are also available at the office. The more points we earn, the more we can redeem educational resources including mathematics and English resources, art and crafts materials and much, much more! So please make sure you collect the stickers. Thanks for your support! Canteen News
Last year when we had our new ‘Healthy School Canteen’ menu approved we went in the draw for a catering equipment voucher. We were successful in winning $250 worth of new equipment for our canteen (as pictured below). Thanks to CE Catering Tuggerah for providing this and to Lesley and Chad from NSW Central Coast Local Health District for arranging this and their support during the whole process of having our menu approved.
Don’t forget lunch orders are placed in the gold box in the office every Thursday for Friday’s lunches. If your child is sick on Friday please phone the office and the order can be held over for the following week or a refund will be given. Lunch orders will be accepted on Friday before 8.45am at the Canteen.
Thank you to those who have volunteered to help in the canteen so far this term (roster below). If you are available to help either of the remaining two days in June please cK-6 into the office or phone 4360 1012.
