WEEK 3 AT CUMNOCK PUBLIC
The past few weeks have been action-packed with the majority of our
students returning to school. The teachers have done an outstanding job
supporting your children either here at school or remotely at home with
their individual learning packs. These work folders will continue to be
utilised for the coming week until we have established our three class
structure again. I would like to thank Mrs McFarland and Mrs Hubbard
who have stepped up to support these changes in our school community.
There has been a tremendous collegial spirit and effort moving into the
next phase of teaching and learning at Cumnock.
CONGRATULATIONS MISS KNIGHT
Miss Amelia Knight will be taking on
the lead teacher role of 2/3/4 for
the remainder of this term with a
possible extension to the end of
the school year. We are pleased to
have Miss Knight at Cumnock and
we are looking forward to
supporting her in her new teaching
role. As a result, Mr West will be
teaching K/1/2, Miss Knight will
lead 2/3/4 and Mrs Hubbard and I
will be working with 5/6. A letter
has been sent home this week
outlining these staff changes. If you would like to discuss any issues
concerning your children, please do not hesitate to ring the Office for an
appointment. I value and appreciate your feedback and thoughts during
these difficult periods of change and adjustments.
MISS HANNAH RIVERS
The school community will be interested to know that Miss Hannah Rivers
has settled into her new role at Cudal Public School but is missing her
students, friends and colleagues from Cumnock! We hope to meet with
Miss Rivers at some stage this term to celebrate her engagement to Mr
Oakden when Covid restrictions are eased.
WELCOME BACK MISS MIDSON
Last week I was delighted to visit Miss Eryn Midson in her new school
setting at Molong Central. Miss Midson has spent the last three and a half
years at Moulamein Public School making a difference in the classroom
and rural community of Moulamein. We welcome Miss Midson back to
our network and Community of Schools and look forward to working with
her again! Good luck Miss Midson on your new 4/5 composite class!

REMOTE LEARNING Please
keep photos, work samples

YOUR outstanding
contributions as part of
home learning under
COVID-19 in 2020!!
GARDEN CLUB
Garden Club will
recommence again this
term. So far, we have three
very enthusiastic volunteers in
Rosie, Dylan and Austin. They
are pictured here with
Spencer Spinach who we
thought deserved a merit
award for 'Persistence and
Resilience' as this was our
only vegetable who survived
the drought! In the coming
weeks, we will begin planting
our winter vegies.

BMX BIKE TRAIL
The Leisks have commenced designing and planning
for the BMX Bike Trail on the back oval. Members of
our P&C, students and staff have been part of the
consultation process for this exciting development.
Within the BMX Bike Trail, rollers, berms and a big loop
with spectator seating will be incorporated into the
area! We are appreciative of the guidance we have
received from our Assets Management staff, Mr
James Muller and Mrs Lucy Powell, who are supporting the project with all
the compliance processes required with the Department. Thank you to the
Duffy family, Flick family and Josh Dowler who also spent part of their
Mother’s Day weekend supporting this exciting development with a working
bee.
READING BLITZ AND MORNING MOVEMENT BODY BRAIN BLAST
This term we are introducing two new short programs into our school week. Commencing this week,
students will be reading a levelled text/magazine each Monday, Wednesday and Friday morning for 15
minutes. On Tuesday and Thursday, the Morning Movement Body Brain Blast will operate for the same
period of time and will incorporate such skills as skipping, hopping, balance activities, gymnastics, beep
tests and ball skills. The benefits of being active for young children include:
promoting healthy growth and development.
helping to achieve and maintain a healthy weight.
building strong bones and muscles.
improving cardiovascular fitness.
improving balance, coordination and strength.
maintaining and developing flexibility.
improving posture.
We anticipate that both these programs will have a positive impact on our students’ wellbeing and
learning capabilities.
The students have enjoyed the lunch time
LEGO challenges during the first two weeks of
Term 2, organised by Mrs Nelson. The students
have worked in teams to design, construct
and build set challenges each day. Some
designs have included, the tallest towers, zoo
animals and
structures from
around the world.
This has been a
great opportunity
for fun and
creative learning
at Cumnock
Public School.

PROFESSIONAL LEARNING
Staff will be training in The Smiling Mind Mindfulness Program this term.
The program has been designed to equip educators with a framework
and tools to support student well-being. It aims to support students
develop social and emotional skills to thrive in this modern and complex
world. We hope to implement this program with our students and wider
community throughout the year. Thank you to Mr West and Mrs Nelson
who are joining with me in the initial training commencing this week.
FRIDAY FEASTS
Delicious nachos were served up for the entire
school population last Friday which were prepared,
cooked and served by our Year 5/6 students. Thank
you to Mrs Flick and Mrs Dwyer for driving this
initiative for our school community. Due to Covid-19
restrictions, our Canteen has
been out of operation. This
initiative will support our students in
their numeracy and literacy skills each
and every Friday. Students have
nominated meals to prepare from
different countries of the world. The
Year 5/6 Covid-19
Cookbook will be
published with the
scrumptious recipes and
illustrations will be sourced
from students as well.
Happy cooking students
and we anticipate families
will enjoy some of these creations at home! Check out
School Stream for today’s recipe—Mini Quiches!
HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY
Students thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to purchase a special gift for their mums at our Mother’s Day
Stall last Friday. The gifts were sourced by our hardworking Office ladies and we would like to thank each
of them for making time to prepare and coordinate this event for our students at school and at home. I
am sure that all our mums were spoilt accordingly throughout Sunday!
TOASTY TUESDAYS
It seems food has become a big part of our lives during Covid-19! As a result of the colder days, the staff
have instigated Toasty Tuesdays. Students are asked to bring in their sandwiches, wrapped and clearly
labelled in a lunch order bag to be toasted as a warm lunch throughout this term. Thank you to staff for
implementing this ‘toasty’ opportunity for our school!
SRE learning from home
Hello Cumnock Students! We know lots of our regular activities are not quite the same as they have been,
and SRE on Fridays is one of those things. Until schools get back to certain stage, Mr Pottie, Mrs Pottie and
Mrs Flick are unable to come and teach you SRE on Fridays. That doesn’t mean we haven’t been thinking
about you and your families.
There is a learning from home option for SRE. Our combined Christian SRE link is live and you can view the
video: https://www.christiansre.com.au/learningfromhome
When you follow this link you can also see the other Christian SRE curriculums that are available as
approved by the Department of Education. We hope you might find it useful and check out some of the
videos and lessons. We look forward to being able to see you in person in the future.
