As always Term 2 has been a very busy and productive term. Our school has undertaken numerous activities including The Central Coast Dance Festival, Public Speaking, Mother’s Day Breakfast, Chess, ICAS Tests, overnight excursions, NAIDOC Week and Blue Day just to name a few. It makes me tired just thinking of all the things we have achieved / accomplished this term. Our dedicated staff have worked tirelessly to ensure TPS continues to offer students a well-rounded educational experience. I would like to thank them again for their hard work and dedication. I wish all families a safe and happy holiday and look forward to seeing you next term.

School Security If you hear or see anything of concern during the holiday period please contact School Security on 1300 880 021. OOSH will be operating throughout the holiday period on weekdays.

Term 3 Students return to school Tuesday, 18 July. A School Development Day is scheduled for Monday, 17 July where staff will engage in a variety of professional learning experiences.

Assistant Principal Position It is with great pleasure that I announce Lee-Anne Collins (Mrs Collins) as the new Assistant Principal of our school subject to the 10 day appeals process which we are currently in. Lee-Anne will join Mrs Shaw, Mrs Day and myself to further strengthen the executive team. Lee-Anne’s knowledge and experience will benefit all aspects of our community including staff, students and parents.

Lee-Anne has been teaching at Wadalba Community School since 2004 and this year she has been working in a role for the Department of Education developing resources for teacher professional development.

Mrs Collins will commence at TPS in Term 3, Week 7. She is unable to start at the beginning of Term 3 due to work commitments in her current role. Lee-Anne will replace Mrs Stephens on 1/2B once Mrs Stephens commences her maternity leave.

Welcome Mrs Collins!

Student Academic Reports This Wednesday all students in K-6 will receive their Semester 1 report. Our staff spend many hours preparing your child’s report and work hard to ensure that it is a true and accurate reflection of your child’s progress in their learning over the semester. Please take the time to discuss the report with your child and reflect on their achievements and where there needs to be a greater focus for improvements to occur. I encourage all parents to read the front cover of your child’s report as this gives an overview of effort and achievement scale that are used in the report.

Student attendance, both partial and whole day, is included. The attendance cut-off date for this semester was Wednesday, 21 June. The reason for this is reports need to be printed off and signed by teachers and myself. This process takes a number of days.

If you have any questions in relation to your child’s report please do not hesitate to make an appointment to speak to your child’s teacher.

NAIDOC Week

Last week TPS celebrated NAIDOC week. I was blown away with the activities on offer and how students participated with enthusiasm. I was particularly impressed with Doing Things Together Day (DTT Day) where students worked collaboratively in groups.

Thank you to our special guests Uncle Mick, Josh, Janelle Bundy (President of local Aboriginal Education Consultative Group), the Wadalba Didge Group and a number of representatives from HopeTown School who visited throughout the week. Thank you also to the parents who assisted with the BBQ.

Our wonderful Culture Group showed strong leadership qualities throughout the week by leading many of the activities and their performance at the NAIDOC Assembly on Friday was fantastic. You should all be very proud of your efforts. A very big thank you to Ms Coafield who coordinated and organised the week’s events.

Stage 1/Stage 2 2/3R Welcome to Week 10! Where has Term 2 gone? Last week we had a fantastic time celebrating NAIDOC week, and learning about Aboriginal culture and traditions. The class really enjoyed participating in the week long activities, and by unanimous decision our favourites were the boomerang throwing and the Doing Things Together activities.

This week Mrs Ryder is back from her holiday, and you will receive your children’s reports.

During the holidays, please remember to read as much as you can with your children! Even if it’s just for 5 minutes each day this will help to maintain their current reading levels.

I would like to say a big thank you for sharing your beautiful children with me over the last four weeks. We have had so much fun and I have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know each and every child.

Have a safe and happy holidays.

Mrs Houison Stage 2 3/4A Can you believe it is the end of the term already? 3/4A students have been extremely busy with camp, NAIDOC Week and squeezing in lots of learning.

Last week we participated in NAIDOC week activities. Our highlight was being able to practice throwing a boomerang.

Ryan, Natasha and Darcy well done for your efforts and contributions with NAIDOC week activities. You should be proud of yourselves.

There have been quite a number of students coming to school unprepared and without lead pencils (I think we have something living in our classroom that eats them!). Can you please ensure your child is equipped with all equipment that is needed every day in the classroom such as lead pencils, sharpeners, rulers, erasers, coloured pencils and textas. Allowing your child to be equipped means that your child is ready to learn every day!

Due to the cold weather we have also gone through quite a lot of tissues. We really do appreciate the donations that were made at the beginning of the term and would appreciate if this would continue for Term 3.

Our class will be revisiting and focusing on our PBL values of being RESPECTFUL, RESPONSIBLE and doing your PERSONAL BEST this week in order to qualify for our PBL Reward Day. The reward day will be held on Thursday in the middle session. All students who have reached 10 Totos again this term will be able to participate in our Movie Reward Day! Congratulations to all students who have achieved this! You have worked very hard!

If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to ask me or let me know! Have a wonderful week! I hope you all have a safe and wonderful holiday break!

Miss Anderson 3/4D Wow! The last two weeks have flown by. 3/4D students have been extremely busy and we all enjoyed camp and exploring Sydney and surrounds. Some of our favourite places that we visited were Hyde Park Barracks, The Big Dig and the Sydney Harbour Bridge walk. A huge thank you to all of our Stage 2 students who made camp memorable and your behaviour was great too! Another huge thank you goes to Ms Anderson, Mrs Houison and Mr McFarland who all gave up family time to attend camp with us!

Last week we were extremely busy again with all our NAIDOC week activities. We all enjoyed boomerang throwing, Uncle Mick’s stories and DTT day was a true highlight of our week!

Cody, we are so proud of you for your efforts and contributions with NAIDOC week activities.

Our class will be revisiting and focusing on our PBL values of being RESPECTFUL, RESPONSIBLE and doing your PERSONAL BEST next week. With our PBL reward day being on Thursday in the middle session. All students who have reached 10 Totos again this term will be able to participate in our Movie Reward Day!

Kate Day Assistant Principal

Stage 3 5/6C Hello Parents and Carers! We have made it to the last week! Hooray! You should be proud of your children with how their behaviour, respect and responsibility has been displayed over the last few weeks. They have been exemplary. I have enjoyed this semester so far and the growth we have seen in your children has been so apparent.

We have been appreciating Mr Asciak’s lessons and presence in our classroom over the last 3 weeks. He is in his last week with us here and we will miss him! We send him off with well wishes and hope to see him again soon.

Over the last 3 weeks we have been focusing on NAIDOC Week. There have been a number of different lessons that have expanded the way we think and wonder about our culture and heritage. During our research we discovered that there were once not only 250 tribes but 250 different languages and over 600 different dialects. WOW! That was a mind blowing fact.

Mr Asciak helped us create a ‘Missing’ poster for the Aboriginal languages that have been lost over the past 1000’s of years. We even learnt some Wiradjuri language to use in the classroom! We did that because Lachlan and Brendan in 5/6M are from the Wiradjuri tribe located near Dubbo and Oberon.

It has been a great term and we have learnt a lot! Some things to remember:

- Crazy Sock and Hair Day TOMORROW!! Gold coin donation

- Soccer on Wednesday - Central Coast Dance Festival

Another big week coming our way! Be safe over the holidays, enjoy your loved ones, I know I will. See you Term 3!

Ms. Coafield

WOW! NAIDOC week was a blast! Thank you to all the parent helpers and presence we had over the week. A special thank you to Uncle Mick and Josh who came in to share with us the ways of life before the White settlers. Very interesting!

Josh also taught us how to throw a boomerang… Now that was fun! We learnt a lot about how many languages have been lost over the 1000’s of years that white settlers have been in Australia. It was a bit sad, but we made sure that we recognised those that have been lost and even kept alive the ones we know of, in Stage 3 they even learnt some Wiradjuri greetings to remember and pass on. Our languages matter.

On Wednesday we had our infamous DTT day, we love that day. The teachers get to see how wonderfully the students all work together and get along, and the students

are given the independence to lead a group and participate at their personal best throughout the day.

Honourable mentions to our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students who ran our Indigenous Games Day, we had a lot of fun! I think my favourite game is Weme, ask your child about it.

A special mention to the Wadalba Didge group who came to perform at our closing assembly. It truly was amazing to see our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students lead us in our closing assembly. Thank you for your hard work in preparation and your honour and respect for your culture.

Thank you again for helping to bring light to and respect the Aboriginal Languages that still exist today and acknowledgement of who are the traditional owners of this land. Ms Coafield

Thanking you, The Fundraising Team School Holiday Road Safety Reminder For Families With the school holidays approaching, daily routines will soon change. Different play locations and holiday destinations means different traffic environments. To help keep our children safe, families are reminded about these key road safety points: • Stop, look, listen, think every time you cross the

road. If your child is aged 8 years or younger hold their hand when walking near or across roads. If your child is 9-10 years old always actively supervise them.

• It’s the law that everyone wears a helmet when riding a bike in a public place.

It makes sense to wear a helmet when riding scooters and skateboards too!

• Click clack front ‘n back every person for every trip.

Everyone in the car must be securely buckled up in the right seatbelt or child restraint.

• Talk to your child about being a safe road user. Reinforce safe road behaviours by being a good role model! Children learn safe road behaviours from the

adults who care for them. Talk about what you are doing to be safe when near roads, in the car and when riding.

• Point out road safety differences and dangers in new environments.

This is especially important when on holidays in different surroundings. Roads, footpaths, parks, carparks, bike tracks and bike lanes may look different in holiday areas. The best way to keep your child safe is to actively supervise them.

Talk and teach your child about road safety every time you are out an about. Remind other adults who care for your children to do this too. You can find out more at: Safety Town Department of Education Transport for NSW

Have a safe holiday break!
