P & C Annual General Meeting
Next week, the P and C will be holding its AGM. This is a great opportunity to come along and get involved in this valuable
association.
Why? What’s so valuable about the P and C?
“The objectives of a school P and C are to; promote the interests of the school by bringing parents, citizens, pupils and teaching
staff into close co-operation; assist in providing equipment required by the school; report to the Minister the material
requirements of the school; assist the teaching staff in establishment of school policy and management in all facets of school
activity.” That’s a quote from the P and C Federation website but from a personal perspective, during my involvement with the
HCS P and C, your local P and C has done all of this and more.
It’s a great way to participate actively in your child’s education and to show your children that you are interested and making a
contribution to their school. It is also an important way to gain insight into how the school operates as our principal always
gives us a comprehensive report at the monthly meetings.
Apart from the input and contribution to the local school, the P and C is also an important community organisation, which are
so vital in places like Hillston, helping to act as glue that keeps the community together. Our role in catering for funerals is a key
example of this.
So next week March 10th at 7 pm, come along and get involved.

Griffith Zone PSSA Swimming Carnival
On Thursday the 27th of February, I accompanied 15 enthusiastic HCS primary students to Griffith Regional Aquatic Leisure Centre, to compete in the Zone Swimming Carnival.
We had students ranging from first timers right through to seasoned competitors who had attended for many years. The students represented our school to a high standard in both their swimming and their behaviour. It was awesome to witness the team spirit.
We arrived earlier to take advantage of a warm up in the pool and to settle some nerves before the events started.
In the 50 m Freestyle 8 years age race Ebony Taylor placed first with a time of 42.57sec narrowly missing out on breaking the zone record from 1974 of 41.90sec.
Lillian Aylett who was also a first-time competitor placed 4th in her age race. George McKenzie placed 3rd in the 9 years age race and Jessie Macdonald 3rd in the 10 years. Tyson Hutchison-Spence glided in finishing with 1st in breastroke as our HCS team roared with excitement on the side of the pool.
The junior boys relay team put in a huge effort in the pool. They were travelling in second place for most of the distance with Griffith North just touching the wall before the boys placing them in third place. Well done Jessie Macdonald, Baxter Taylor, Hamish Bourke and George McKenzie on making an awesome team in the pool.
All competitors gave it their best and did Hillston Central School proud on the day.
Congratulations to Ebony Taylor, Jessie MacDonald, George McKenzie and Tyson Hutchison-Spence for securing a place at the Riverina carnival to be held in Albury on the 11th of March.
A big thank you to Claudia Taylor and Kylie McKenzie for putting their hand up to time keep before the big day and Jodi Cheatley for relieving on the day. Without parent helpers these big events would be hard to run. It was also lovely to see so many family members who travelled to support us on the day making our voices heard across the pool.
We wish our four primary competitors all the best next week at the Riverina Carnival.

SCHOOL NEWS Skills of RAP on Show – RAP Cricket
Three Hillston Central School students were selected to play
for the RAP Open boy’s cricket team. These students were
Jordan Tuohy, Kayden Dauth and Manan Dave. These
students travelled to Narrandera last Wednesday to
participate in a gala day. The team’s first match was against
Yanco Agriculture High School. The team took some time to
gel together and begin to communicate and understand
each other’s strengths and attributes.
Yanco batted first and showed some strong batting with an
exceptional innings from one student taking them to a
formidable total. Kayden Dauth bowled well and troubled
the batsmen from his first delivery.
The RAP team did not let this total phase them as they took
to the run chase with positivity and enthusiasm. The team
started well with the openers setting solid platform.
However, the team suffered from little luck in the middle
order and were dealt some unlucky dismissals. Manan Dave
was a shining light during the innings with a strong stint at
the crease. Manan showed exquisite technique and timing
during his innings. Due to the slow outfield, the team
struggled to chase the total set by Yanco. Yanco were
victorious in game one.
In the second, and final game of the day the RAP team faced
the home side of Narrandera High School. The RAP team did
not let the home ground advantage of the opposition worry
them. With RAP winning the toss and electing to bowl, the
team began with great communication and enthusiasm.
They had built a strong rapport during the first game and
already had a strong bond as a team. The team bowled and
fielded very well. Jordan Tuohy bowled exceptionally well
and was rewarded with a wicket. Jordan deceived the
batsmen on multiple occasions. Manan Dave was also a
stand out with the ball, bowling a consistent line and length
where he managed to grab two wickets.
RAP managed to hold Narrandera to a modest total of 106
from their 20 overs. The team believed that this was a very
achievable total and again started in a positive fashion.
Kayden Dauth showed some exceptional hitting power and
shot making. He was able to rotate the strike as well as find
the boundary.
The RAP side showed some strong patches during the
innings, however fell 20 runs short of the total in the end.
The team enjoyed the day and should be commended on
their efforts and sportsmanship on the day. The future of
RAP cricket is looking very strong with a majority of the team
in junior years!

What is The Big Vegie Crunch?
Did you know that only around 6% of Australian children eat enough vegetables? To help our community do better, our primary school will be taking part in The Big Vegie Crunch (part of Vegetable Week) at 10am on Thursday 5th March
Primary schools across NSW will be joining together to break the record for the most students crunching vegetables:
50,260 students crunching simultaneously (2018 record)
14,991 students crunching at other times over Vegetable Week (2019 record)
What can you do to help?
Pack a container of vegetables (not fruit this time) for your child to eat on Thursday 5th March
Remember to keep serving up the vegetables at home and in your children’s lunchboxes!
If you require more information on what activities our school is doing over Vegetable Week, please contact the school or your child’s teacher.

performed very well in their own right.
This was a fantastic effort on behalf of all students. A big
thank you to our cheer squad who travelled to support our

swimmers who will be heading off to Sydney to race at the

done Hillston Central School!!

Drama Reborn
After quite a few years in the wilderness, secondary Drama classes have reappeared. Our students have been learning improvisation skills this semester with a long term goal of entering some teams in the Weeping Candle competition for Theatresports in Albury later this year.
The abilities these students develop will hopefully also give them the confidence to audition in this year’s production of The Lion King.
Two of the students are working at Preliminary level with the intention of attempting the HSC in Drama beginning in Term 4.

Paddling up a Storm
The 9/10 PASS class enjoyed a paddle on the Lachlan River as a part of their Aquatics unit. Students enjoyed the challenge of paddling and working as a team.

Clean Up Australia Day
On Friday, HCS participated in Clean Up Australia Day, working hard to pick up rubbish around the school and in the community. We also collected dozens of recyclable cans and bottles which will go to the school's Return and Earn donation boxes. We are proud to be involved in keeping our town clean!

Kicking Goals
Five HCS primary boys attended the AFL trials in Narrandera to try out for the Leeton-Narrandera-Griffith trials for Western Riverina. Our boys displayed great sportsmanship and played extremely well amongst some tough competition. Great effort boys!
