Kindy Fees
Thank you Last Saturday we had the opportunity to run the sausage sizzle at Bunnings Mt Barker and as always it was a huge success, raising much needed funds and kicking off our
fundraising for 2017. Thank you to our Fundraising organisers and all the volunteers who gave their time to help cook and
serve sausages.
Thank you to everyone who has answered the call at the last minute to help with end of day clean up. We have had some very busy days and your assistance has made it so
much easier for us and the children.
We acknowledge that we are on the traditional lands of the Peramangk people and we recognise their connection with the land. We will help care for and respect this land together.

Lee’s News
This term is passing us by so quickly. I’m sure it was only yesterday we were welcoming you all to kindy, now all of a sudden half of the term has past!
I cannot believe how settled and connected all of the children are at kindy. They have formed wonderful friendships and have connected with staff and the learning environments beautifully.
Bunnings BBQ I would like to stay a huge thank you to everyone who donated money and or worked at the Bunnings fundraiser at the weekend. A huge thanks to Rhiannon Green and Kel Boyle for organising the event and making sure we had enough food and people to make the event a huge success. It is events like these that make us truly appreciate the wonderful kindy community we have. :)
We have received notification of our upcoming assessment and rating visit from the Education and Early Childhood Services and Standards Board of SA. The aim of this assessment visit is to assess us against the 7 Quality areas and 56 elements of the National Quality Standard in order to receive an overall rating of ‘not meeting’, ‘meeting’ or ‘exceeding’ the National Quality Standard. In the coming weeks, we will submit our Quality Improvement Plan (QIP) to our assessor and she will come out and observe us in action to sight or seek evidence to support her assessment of us against the quality areas. We feel a mix of excitement and nervousness as we hope that our beautiful kindy can perform as we think it should against the standards. We are hoping that we can accurately represent the amazing learning that happens here and the strong relationships we have with our children and families and that our community links are strongly represented. Many people have asked us how they can help support us through this process. We would love as many families to help us at our Working Bee on the morning of Saturday the 25th March, where we can give the outdoor learning environment a good scrub, spit and polish. If you can’t make it to our working bee, don’t fear, you can still help! Please see staff… we have loads of little jobs or ways you can help support us to shine through this process. We would also love your help with contributing to our QIP review process on the Interactive QIP board located in front of the office window. We would love your thoughts, ideas and plans on how we can improve as a site or anything you would like us to consider when planning our directions for this year.
Staff are all getting ready for our conference and closure day this Thursday 10th of March, where we will be presenting our bush kindy story at the National Nature Pedagogy Conference in Victoria this weekend. We are looking forward to spending time together as a staff team, reflecting, planning and learning together to continue our exciting nature-play work. So, it’s all systems go for us until the end of term. Thanks for your on-going support of our learning program. Lee

Some of your amazing lunch ideas.
Housekeeping
At Lobethal kindergarten we strongly promote Healthy eating. We have had some amazing lunch boxes coming through and being consumed at lunch time. Please avoid sending “sometimes food” ie. foods high in salt, fat and sugar. Staff will always encourage children to eat their healthy choices first, but when there is a “treat” it can become upsetting when we ask them to leave it until last.
We are also aiming for minimal waste after snack and lunchtimes. So sending food with little or no packaging is preferred.
Thanks for your support.
Can you help? We have a number of spare clothing items for emergency
changes. We are very low on pants and shorts. If you have surplus or know of anyone with some, we would love to take them off your
hands.
Reminder! We need to have sighted your child’s
immunisation records before the end of term. If they are not sight your child will be
registered as not immunised.
People’s Choice Community Lottery This proved to be a great fundraiser for us last year and does not
require much effort from our committee or families. We will be sending home a book of lottery tickets for each family to sell. There are 10 tickets in each book and with 131 prizes they pretty much sell themselves. Paper tickets will be available to us from April but we will be promoting online sales on our Facebook page and groups to boost our sales. Feel free to share the link below with as many family
and friends as you like and they can purchase online. http://www.peopleschoicecu.com.au/lobethal-community-kindergarten
Recycle Centre Our Recycling Centre is up and
running. You will find our collection bins inside the front gate. Please collect, with your
child, all 10 cent deposit items in the appropriate bin. Money raised will be spent
on sustainable resources for the Kindy.

Lobie Kindy Crafters
Do you like to make things? Have you dabbled in knitting, crocheting, sewing, scrapbooking? Any other crafts?
Lobie Kindy Crafters is a group of kindy parents and ex-kindy parents who meet at kindy on the first Wednesday night of the month at 7.30. It is a casual, helpful, fun group. We are friendly and happy to help new crafters with their projects. For more info have a chat to Nell.
Frog’s News - Nell Ward
Our Frogs Group has had such a great start to their kindy year! It has been wonderful to see the children really connecting with each other this week - we have seen several new friendships developing. We are working with the children on remembering names (you might notice this in our end of day games) Our stories and group times have centred around social skills - how to make friends, and how to be a good friend. Please check out our floorbook to see the children's ideas and comments about friends. We are about to begin an exploration into "Whoever You Are Wherever You Are" talking about different nationalities and cultures and also places in the world that we may have visited or have family members living there.
The children are becoming familiar with our kindy rules and routines and really beginning to show cohesiveness and connectedness as a group. They are keen to share their knowledge and ideas with us at group times. We have centred a lot of our work around settling in at kindy and becoming familiar with our kindy rules (you may have noticed the display on the wall at kindy?)
Kindy journals and our floor book have been a popular way for children to document their plans and ideas. We have had pirate ships and helicopters that required considerable planning and skills to execute. Quite incredible and impressive achievements given that we are only part way through the first term!
Our first scientific inquiry and exploration has been around colour mixing. Many of the children are now showing an interest in magnets and how they work so we have set up a table for magnetic exploration! Watch this space!
We look forward to such an amazing year with your busy and powerful learners! If the last 5 weeks are anything to go by we are in for so much FUN; complex projects and indepth dramatic play. Keep smiling, Nell.

Bug’s News - Kerry Harten
The Bugs have had a really positive start to their Kindy year. Our focus has been supporting children to settle at Kindy, establish routines and develop a sense of belonging. We have been exploring our Kindy rules of
1) Taking care of ourselves, keeping ourselves safe. 2) Taking care of our friends, keeping our friends safe. 3) Taking care of our environment/keeping our things safe. As the staff take on the role of researchers and really get to know your children, we have found out that that they have great big ideas, they are learners and they are inspirational! Wow, lets reflect on the first 5 weeks. It’s amazing how much learning we can squeeze into such a short amount of time…. - Playing together- building relationships and friendships. - Climbing and jumping: making choices about what height to jump from, feeling safe and using our risk assessing skills. - Becoming familiar with and following routines e.g. hand washing, group times, lunchtimes, sunscreen, resting etc. - Sharing their interests, knowledge and skills by contributing to our big book. - Being curious scientists as they mix colours, create perfumes, potions and solutions.
- We have engineers and designers that have been making robots. They have been using a variety of construction sets and collage materials to build and construct their ideas. - Technology users: using the camera’s to record their own learning and things of importance. Some adding photos to their journals. - Opportunities to be curious, explore, connect to the world around them and practice gross
motor skills in the park. This has involved learning about risks and safety checks, snake awareness, keeping ourselves and others safe, respecting the environment, waiting, turn taking and being creative with our play. And these are just a few of the things we have been working on at kindergarten!
