Nicole Mayhew Teacher Librarian ICAS Competitions For Students In Years 3 – 6

For over 20 years ICAS has taken place each year in schools throughout Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Malaysia, Brunei, the Pacific region and South Africa. ICAS provides an opportunity for all students to gain a measure of their own achievement in an external assessment situation. It provides teachers, parents and students with comprehensive reporting of results in Computer Skills, English, Mathematics, Science, Spelling and Writing. Our school will be offering the opportunity to sit these tests at school. There is a cost for each test. A note will be sent home with all Years 3-6 students during Week 6. If you would like your child to sit one or all of the tests, please complete the form that is sent home and return the note and payment to your child’s classroom teacher. For more information see the website http://www.eaa.unsw.edu.au/ or contact Ms Mayhew.

Randwick Boys’ High School News University Entrance – 100% success In 2013, Randwick Boys’ High School presented an outstanding cohort for the HSC. This group of young men achieved outstanding results, with many scoring Band 6 results in multiple subjects. We were delighted to learn that every student who sought university placement for 2014 was successful in gaining a place. That’s a 100% success rate and we are justly proud of the achievements of these young men, our contribution to their education and the contribution of their Primary Schools in their success. Overseas Study Tour 2014 In March and April this year, students of Ancient History will undertake a two week study tour of the ancient worlds they learn about in their lessons. Travelling to Europe, the will explore Italy, Greece and Crete over fourteen days, experiencing first-hand the sites they will study for the HSC. What an amazing experience! I am very proud that we are able to offer this excursion as a regular part of our curriculum to our senior students. While it complements an extensive program of educational excursions both interstate and international offered

by the school, it also shows the opportunities available through public education. This is always a popular excursion, but the young men who participate bring back so much more than memories of a trip overseas; the excursion brings learning to life and is a life-long memory of ancient worlds.
