HOMEWORK

Homework is set on a consistent basis. Students are required to hand in homework on the due date. Not submitting homework by the due date can result in marks being deducted, and in the worst-case scenario, a fail mark given on the end of semester report. ‘Homework Club’ is held each lunchtime, giving all students an environment to complete their set, overdue task(s). It is a student’s responsibility to collect homework if they have been absent. Creating a regular home study pattern will greatly benefit all students entering into the senior years of schooling. NB: Students may receive other homework as necessary for other subjects.

ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL’S REPORT

Dear families and students,

We had a terrific Year 12 Graduation Evening on Tuesday at Settler’s Tavern. It was a pleasure to see all of the students receive their certificates of achievement. Thanks to all of the families and staff who have supported the group throughout their primary and secondary schooling years.

On Monday, 18 students and 2 staff attended a special presentation in Albury. The guest speaker was Dr Karl Kruszelnicki who spoke about a variety of different things for around 1.5 hours. The feedback from the students was all very positive, and that it was very entertaining. Currently we have 13 students competing in the 2018 Energy Breakthrough event in Maryborough. The students had to make a presentation to a judging panel yesterday based on their vehicle design, training program and current renewable energy sources and environmental issues. Yesterday was also the day when their vehicles went through the scrutineering process, again with judges on hand to ask the students about their knowledge around the safety aspects of the event. Each of the students did very well yesterday and are today currently competing in the obstacle course and time trial events. Tomorrow sees them in their final event of the competition – the 8 hour endurance race. This race starts at 2pm and finishes at 10pm, with an aim of doing as many laps of the 1.1km street circuit as possible. None of this could have happened without the extremely generous contributions made by our wonderful sponsors - AGL, Foodworks, Falls Creek Coaches, Alpine Shire Council, Mount Beauty Auto Repairs, Falls Creek Resort Management, Rotary Club of Mount Beauty, Upper Kiewa Valley Lions Club, Team Mount Beauty, The Angelini Family, Tawonga South Butchery, Rocky Valley Sports, Mount Beauty Hardware & Drapery Store and The Men’s Shed. I’d also like to thank the families of the competitors for

their efforts and support of this event, and Mount Beauty Bakery for donating bread for our students.

The Outdoor Education camp that was scheduled for earlier this week was postponed due to the forecasted thunderstorms. The new dates of the camp are Wednesday 12th December – Friday 14th December. Hopefully the weather will be kinder and all of the students are available to participate.

Yet again there are many activities happening around the college next week. On Monday the Yr 10 students will be participating in the ‘Motorvation’ program. Also on Monday, the CFA Youth Crew are off to Howman’s Gap for their end of year camp. A small group of intrepid middle year students are off to an adventure camp, and the Year 11 camp to Melbourne is also on after their exams and Year 12 induction day. And if that wasn’t enough, we finish the week with an interschool mountain bike competition at Falls Creek and on Friday night the Student Executive are hosting the annual College Social in the JHS!

End of year activities information letters were sent home with Year 7 to 9 students on Tuesday, outlining the activities on offer, as well as the student selection and medical forms. If you have not seen this information, please contact the General Office ASAP. This year will again be a five day program from Wednesday 12th December through to our annual ‘Picnic Day’ on Tuesday 18th December. Year 10 students are more than welcome to attend the activities. If any Year 10’s are interested, please come and collect the necessary information from the General Office.

Attendance Matters: It’s never too late to improve attendance. Going to school more often makes a huge difference to educational outcomes. Everyday counts and we’re here to help. If you’re having any attendance issues with your child, please contact the relevant Year Level Co-ordinator or myself, so that we can work together to get your child to school every day. Our next canteen voucher winner for two weeks of 100% attendance is happening today.

Thank you, Ross Wilson

ADVANCE CFA YOUTH CREW 2019 INTAKE

Year 8 students are invited to apply for a place in the 2019 Advance CFA Youth Crew program. The program started in 1997 and is a partnership between Tallangatta, Corryong and Mount Beauty Secondary Colleges and the local CFA brigades. Ten students from Mount Beauty will be selected to join the continuing year 9 students. The Advance program, which is funded by the state government, provides students the opportunity to engage with local CFA brigades and undertake the formal training required to be a volunteer firefighter. Students also develop team and leadership skills while working with a range of different community members. On successful completion of the 2 year program students will gain their ‘Minimum Skills’ in wildfire firefighting qualification and the First Aid certificate. The program is seeking applicants with a wide range of skills, who work well in teams and who are committed to helping their community. Application’s close 4:00pm Friday 30th November. Shaun Thorpe 2019 – 2020 MIDDLE SCHOOL CAMPS PROGRAM After consultation with students and staff, the camps program will change from 2019 and return to an alternating program between a beach experience and a tour/city experience. Therefore, the plan for 2019 is a 5-day tour of Tasmania and in 2020, a beach camp. The decision to take the tour option next year was so it didn’t occur in the same year as the Indonesia Trip. Expressions of interest will be called on very soon, so stay tuned for more details.
