On a bitterly cold February morning, KB glass installers returned to refit eight 175 kg panes of glass, restoring the building’s unique look, having removed the glass six months earlier. The KB team was contracted last year to remove the panes of specialist 12 mm heat-treated and toughened anti-sun facade glass to enable the refurbishment of what was the first listed 1970s’ building. The panes were eased out using specialist lifting equip- ment and stored for six months in the Kent Blaxill warehouse. Their removal enabled the main contractor, Structuretone, to work on the building without having a major impact on the day-to-day running of the Willis Group business. “It was a challenging job but we were excited to work on such a special build- ing,” said Paul Meek, KB glazing contracts manager. Paul oversaw all the work and was on- site at all times. It will be the company’s tenth store in East Anglia. Located on a new industrial estate at Clip Bush Park in Hawthorn Way, the 2,600 sq ft unit will be managed by Michael Nicholls, who has been in charge of the Norwich branch. James Park, KB decorative manager, said: “The Fakenham area is an exciting place to open a decorative branch as there is plenty of untapped for potential for trade decorators in a thriving market town. We had found that our Norwich branch delivery service was spending a lot of time on the North Norfolk coast.” The new branch will serve an area stretching from the north Norfolk coast across to Downham Market. It will be based on the same formula as the highly successful Huntingdon branch which opened last year.
