Save The Children Fund Finals at the National Training Centre in

Roehampton, London

This is an annual national fundraising event in aid of Save the Children Fund

which culminates in a Tennis Festival in London during October.

Inspire2coach organized a Coventry event with the Ladies Doubles being

played at the University of Warwick, the Mens Doubles and the Junior Boys

Doubles being played at Beechwood Tennis Club. The day ended with a

fantastic BBQ at Beechwood Tennis Club with all three finals taking place.

The winners of the Ladies and Mens Doubles were then invited to the Tennis

Festival but the Juniors had to work their way through another event to get

to the Festival as the report below written by the boys describes:

Report from Angus and Finlay Smith: Mum entered us into this tournament as she thought it would be fun for us to play as

brothers. We had fun at Beechwood and we were very surprised to come away with a win. It was good fun playing together. Angus managed to hit the ball off his racquet

frame during a match and it broke in two, so we had to whizz off to get another one before finishing the tournament. The next round was at Bisham Abbey. It was a very smart facility. We played well, although it was a harder round. We had a close

fought final match but secured the win which got us into the final round. We did some fund raising at school and in our village, and managed to donate £120 to

Save the Children. The National Tennis Centre at Roehampton was fantastic. It was am incredible place with state of the art facilities. We stayed overnight, and it was weird to think who else

may have slept in our bed! Our first match was really difficult. We ended up in a tie break, and fought back from 0-

3 to win 12-10. The pressure was really on! The second match was easier, and we won that, but lost the 3rd. We still managed to qualify into the semis. We were very nervous as the LTA provided an umpire, linesmen and ball girls. There were lots of people watching from the balcony. After the coin toss it was announced "Smith and

Smith have chosen to return"which was quite scary. Unfortunately we had a really hard match and lost it, although there were some good rallies. Our opposition went on to win the final so that made us feel better. We were shattered afterwards, but enjoyed

seeing Ade Adepitan demonstrating wheelchair tennis. He was so fast and managed to hit the ball so well.

We had a great time, and it was a really fun tournament to take part in. You should enter it next year!
