Augustina Woodgate gives garments a voice by sewing poets in them. For this initiative, which she dubbed

Poetry Bombing, she visits local thrift stores to secretly sew poems into clothing. At forehand, she pre-threads

needles and prints lines from Sylvia Plath and Li Po. She came up with this idea as a project for the O Miami

Poetry Festival.For her, sewing poems in clothes is a way of bringing

poetry to everyday life, by removing it from paper to then integrate it and fuse it with human lives. After all, it’s all in

Don’t fool yourself thinking that the Tender, Authentic and Human Pearls cannot surface in highly commercialized

and mediatized contexts. Whatever some people think of the aspirant singers featuring in The Voice Of, the

message is tender and incomparably human: young talented people who strive to do the utmost best they can,

with the help of a devoted coach. We see them struggle, yet grow over the weeks, as they become stronger and

more vulnerable at the same time. It is this notion of Tender, Authentic Human Pearls that

explains why millions of viewers worldwide love the show.

“Shrinking the Digital Divide”, that’s the mission of Estralla Pyfrom. Working as a counsellor in Palm Beach

County in the U.S, she noticed that fewer and fewer pupils had access to a computer after school. So she decided to buy a bus filled with computers. Now she

brings technology to the kids, travelling from schoolyard to schoolyard (note: eating gum and Facebook are not

allowed on the bus).Stories like these reaffirm our faith in the goodness of

people.

THE BRILLIANT BUS





Inspired by a scene in Harry Potter, leukaemia patient Oliwia Gandecka's wish was to receive lots of cards on

her birthday. Thus, her parents set up the online initiative Birthday Card for Oliwia campaign. On her birthday, October 26th 2013, more than a million cards were

delivered to her. Sure, Tender Human Pearl stories like these do not move mountains. Still their heart-warming

effect might help us a bit to deal with life in uncertain times.

A MAGIC BIRTHDAY





The Facebook page “Humans of New York” by Brandon Stanton is basically an entire collection of Tender Human

Pearls. Stanton started photographing random New Yorkers on the streets and at first nobody was interested. He decided to post them on Facebook with a quote. Now, more than 3 million likes and a book later, “Humans of…”

pages all surfacing over the globe.In line with the Give me Narratives trend, Facebook

tapped in it as well. In spite of this, the page is first and foremost a great example of tender, human kindness.
