from one activity to the
next, and satisfied shop-
pers hauling bags of one-
of-a-kind goods. Many of
us who have attended the
Bazaar with babes have
found it more comfortable
to wear them in a carrier
than to try to finagle a
stroller through the jolly
crowd.
5. Shop at Preview Night.
This year, by popular de-
mand, the school will be hold
a Preview Night on the eve-
ning before the Bazaar, and
the vendors’ stalls will be
open for business. A limited
number of tickets are available
here (add link) at $10 each.
Catch up with friends, enjoy
light refreshments, and avoid
the crowds. Adults only,
please.
6. Or find shopping co-
laborators.
If you can’t make it to Preview
Night, and you have young
children, enlist friends or family
members to spend time with
your children while you browse
the vendors’ stalls. This is a
once-a-year opportunity to ap-
Come November 22,
our school’s halls will
hum with the good hu-
mor of friends and
neighbors, young and
old, convening to cele-
brate the season.
Crafts will be made,
delicious food will be
eaten, treasures will be
acquired, and we hope
that you will return home
thoroughly nourished. Here
are ten tips to help you maxi-
mize your enjoyment of this
popular event.
1. Buy tickets early.
Buy tickets in advance to
avoid waiting on line. Tickets
will be available Saturday,
Nov. 15,
2. Park smartly.
The Bazaar draws people
from near and far, and the
school parking lot and the
surrounding street parking will
fill up. Consider parking
down the road in the back lot
of the Shops at Sumner
Place. A shuttle bus will be
making regular round trips
between that location and the
Bazaar.
3. Plan your “Bazaar strat-
egy” ahead of time.
Eager to decorate candles,
make thumb pianos, and paint
silks? Visit those crafts early
on to allow time for them to
dry. Do you have little ones
who will delight in a puppet
show? Those tickets tend to
sell out, so buy them as soon
as you arrive. Bazaar crafts
and activities cost between ?
and ? tickets. View the list
of activities (add link to Ba-
zaar website) ahead of time
to get a sense of which activi-
ties your family will want to
do.
4. Leave the stroller outside.
The school hallways will be
packed with children traipsing

Ten Tips for Enjoying the Bazaar preciate the finely made
wares of artisanal craftspeo-
ple, and many parents co-
ordinate with others so that
they can fit some shopping
in. Don’t miss the Waldorf
Store, which is a separate
entity from the vendors’
stalls featuring Waldorf-
style toys, books and
crafts, as well as exquisite
objects handmade by mem-
bers of our community. It
won’t be open at Preview
Night, and the line that
forms at its door during the
Bazaar is well worth the
wait. New this year, ex-
plore the Alumni Pop-Up
Shop to see what former
students are creating.
7. Power up.
Swing by the Bistro upon
arrival for a cup of coffee
to get your energy flowing.
Need a pick-me-up mid-
stream? Stop by the
Snack Room for a quick
bite to eat—adults and
older children can use Ba-
zaar tickets to purchase
snacks. Linger over lunch
in the Bistro, where you
can enjoy music and enter-
tainment while you dine on
a seasonal, organic, and
delectable lunch. Need a
breath of fresh air? If the
weather permits, take your
lunch out to one of the
picnic tables on the black-
top. There’s no point in
resisting the sumptuous
desserts at the Patisserie,
where you can also buy
goodies to go. Bonus: the
Patisserie’s takeout bags are
handy totes if you forgot to
bring bags from home. Fill
up a bag with one of the
Bistro’s beautiful center-
pieces, which you can buy
and take home at the end
of the day.
8. Create sweet moments
for children of all ages.
For your littlest ones:
Children thrill in getting
their faces painted, and
parents should have no
fears: the paints that our
student volunteers will be
applying are lead-free and
nontoxic. The Magical
Maze will enchant children
and parents who may ac-
company them in. Head
to the Sun Catcher craft in
the Songbirds’ classroom
when your young ones
would benefit from a
peaceful, roomy space.
The Children’s Shop is
exclusively for children,
who will take pleasure in
choosing amongst the
handmade, natural and
age-appropriate merchan-
dise.
For older children: Henna
designs are a popular tem-
porary skin décor amongst
the middle school crowd.
And weather permitting,
the basketball tournament
will draw them outside to
the blacktop.
For all ages: Anyone can
join the younger folk in
decorating candles, paint-
ing silks, and making cop-
per lanterns.
9. Remember to bring
reusable shopping bags, &
cash or checks.
While some of the vendors
and the Waldorf Store will
accept credit cards, you
will need cash or a check
to buy tickets, food, and
to purchase goods from
some vendors. Even if you
don’t plan to shop until
you drop, you will want to
have bags in which to carry
the copper lanterns,
painted silks, beautifully
adorned candles, funky
thumb pianos, and lumi-
nous sun catchers that you
and your children create.
10. Plan to stay a while.
Make a day of it, and you
won’t feel rushed trying to
get from one activity to the
next. The Bazaar only
happens once a year—
savor the experience!
