Ghana became the first sub-Saharan African country to be free from colonial rule barely ten years after Israel’s own declaration of independence in 1948. At the time, the attraction and nascent relationship between the two countries appeared to be a match made in heaven. But, a few years into the Ghana-Israeli relationship, strains began to appear. In this presentation, Dr. Keteku will review the sources of attraction, the factors that threatened this promising international relationship, and the enduring effect of this friendship. Dr. George Keteku teaches Political Science at Westchester Community College, is an adjunct Professor at SUNY Purchase, and is active in many professional societies, including the Association for the Study of Middle East and Africa (ASMEA) , the African Studies Association (ASU) and the American Political Science Association.
