How many hours are there? In other words, is “hora”
singular or plural?
One!...there is only one so…

When it is half past the hour you can say “and half”…since the word “hora” is feminine, then our word for “half” is also going to be feminine…¡media!

When it is noon or midnight we are able to use “es” and say that it is noon = el mediodía (yes, it is masculine)
OMidnight = la medianoche (now it’s feminine)

When it’s 15 minutes past or before the hour you can say “quarter” instead of “quince”…
