10 March 2017
espite the rain and mud, the Herald Mountain Bike Race
and Farmers Market turned out to be a fantastic event.
This major event requires plenty of organizing and effort
from the School community. A huge thank you and well
done to all the parents and friends of the school who
contributed to make this event such a success. What was pleasing
to observe was the pleasant manner and enthusiasm our parents
showed towards helping on the day. It was great to be part of the
Hermitage House Team!
The renovations added to the success of the weekend, as there
were many happy campers and many pleased muddy mountain
bikers. Once again, thank you to those people who contributed to
these renovations.
As a result of everyone’s help, the event brought in
WELL DONE!

Paintball
11 march
e look forward to the Paintball event tomorrow. It promises to be a fun day for the family with many side activities for the children and parents.
• Kids’ Corner • Hamburgers
• Sweet Table • Bar
Matches Start at 09:00am Players to arrive at 08:00am. Bring an umbrella or Gazebo as it looks to be a hot day.
We have had a busy few weeks filled with lots of laughs and learning. The Grade R
boys wanted to show us what clowns do at the Moscow Circus and how funny clowns
can be.
We painted different types of houses that people live in, from mud huts to colourful
houses. We discussed the different shapes we can use to draw a house and then the
correct naming words for all the parts of a house (e.g. roof, window, etc.)
We have also been concentrating on our fine motor skills and learning our personal
details like our birthdate, address and mommy’s cell phone number.

This week we learned all about colours. We learned that there are primary and
secondary colours, and we learned how to make a secondary colour by mixing some
primary colours together. We also learned that there are light colours as well as dark
colours.
The little explorers blew bubbles in a cup and when the sun shined on the bubbles
they discovered that the bubbles had a colourful reflection.
We had great fun exploring everything “Under the sea” with our Summer theme.
We’ve made beautiful summer pictures and had some yummy Ice-lollies. “Shapes”
was our big focus point last week. Everyone enjoyed building the shapes on the
carpet and making colourful pictures using the four basic shapes.
Circular 5.3 10 March 2017
With our colour theme we learned all about colours and mixing them. We painted a
beautiful rainbow. We built, drew and painted houses. Me made houses out of old
boxes, into what we could shine a flashlight.
ermitage ouse had their annual gala at Birchmore, Willem
and Henriette Bouwer’s farm on Friday, 24th February 2017. A BIG THANK YOU for the use of their farm as a gala venue. You always surprise us with extras! A BIG THANK YOU to our parents, grannies and grandpas and the friends of the
school who attended our children’s gala. We know it often takes a huge effort to get
off work and get away from one’s busy life.
Circular 5.3 10 March 2017
This was the first time that Hermitage House held the gala
during school hours. It worked well and the children
seemed to have a good rest over the weekend before school
started on the Monday again.
We also want to thank our
team of moms that always
stands in to help filling the
tummies of our hungry
children after their
performances.
Nicky Bolton got a turn with the camera that day, and
did a fantastic job.
We must mention the private coaches that work so well
with the school and help us to take the swimming of
Hermitage House a little further –
• Helen Walton usually shows us what she had achieved so far with her grade R
swimmers at the gala.
• Lesley van der Walt has done well in fine-tuning our better swimmers. Lesley is
working on getting a team ready for gala participation in future. Thank you,
Lesley.
We thank Idelette Olivier for time being. She worked with the bigger children during
our weekly practices, helping them with their swimming styles. Please come back
when work pressure permits, Idelette! Thank you so much for your input in our
school swimming.

in mini cricket format and the other match was played on the turf pitch on the main

There were 68 players in total, and it was wonderful to see the Polo Club fields filled
