The project introduces a novel platform based on a specialpurpose GIS and a methodology for the monitoring and recordkeeping of the factors that influence the quantity and the quality ofolives and the major sub product the olive oil, a traditional andhigh-interest cultivation in western Greece and South-Eastern Italy

Direct Results:

1. Constant monitoring of the conditions under which the olives arecultivated and decision making according to real data

2. Production and distribution of an innovative in a pan-Europeanlevel of a “best practice” roadmap for the cultivation of olives

3. Proven quality of the product through quantitativemeasurements

The goal of IRMA is to establish a network of knowledge and expertise

exchange which will lead to the development of practical irrigation

management tools for demand-driven capitalization of scientific

knowledge and good practices

The project outputs include irrigation survey, application manuals,

development of a web tool based on meteorological data, satellite

images and GIS mapping for irrigation management counselling, research

results and creation of a networking and training platform

These will lead to direct water, energy and thus money savings. The

outputs because of their character have the potential to be directly

implemented in broader areas of both countries (Greece, Italy)

Web 2.0 for tourism sector

Lifelong Learning for professional communities

Environmental awareness for social development

Growth of social networking for tourism: new media, Internet and social software as means to build travel communities

Economical, technological and legal changes: the tourism sector as a laboratory for social innovation

Eco-tourism and sustainability supply improve socio-economic development

Page 28: TEIEP presentation

Best Practiceshttp://sonetto.teiep.gr/

• A niche professional social network on sustainable tourism can enhance fair

competition among SMEs and promote a positive environmental impact

and equal opportunities

• The project contrasts regional weaknesses supporting entrepreneurship and

focusing on diversification of sustainable tourism products and transfer of

scientific competences among Universities, public institutions and SMEs

• Social networking is a low cost and sustainable infrastructure that could

effectively strengthen the cooperation among some hundred thousand

operators, supporting innovation and encouraging growth of knowledge-

based economy through a transfer of research and development

opportunities
