STATE TIMES NEWS AKHNOOR: Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control Sham Lal Choudhary and Member Parliament Jugal Kishore Sharma on Sunday laid foundation stone of Water Supply Scheme (WSS), Kangar in Akhnoor Constituency. The WSS, with a capacity of 5,000 gallons per hour, has been taken up under National Rural Drinking Water Programme (NRDWP) and would be completed at an estimated cost of Rs 2 crore. On its completion, the scheme will benefit approximately 2,580 villagers living in Kangar and adjoining areas. During the visit to Akhnoor, Sham Lal Choudhary along with MP Jugal Kishore also inaugu- rated recently completed Rs 1.56 Cr Water Supply Scheme under NRDWP at Ambi Danna in Akhnoor Block. It will cater to the drinking water needs of Ambi and Danna villages having an approximate pop- ulation of over 1,500 souls. Later, they also dedicated another newly completed NRDWP Water Supply Scheme in Gulaba Chapper area to the people. This water supply scheme has been completed at a cost of Rs 1.82 crore and will bene- fit several villages. Pertinently, National Rural Drinking Water Programme (NRDWP) caters to the emerging challenges in avail- ability, sustainability and quality of drinking water in rural areas. Reasserting the govern- ment's resolve to provide safe drinking Water to people, the minister asked the depart- ment heads to monitor the functioning of field staff to ensure transparency, accountability and efficient services. "The first and fore- most motive of PHE depart- ment is to provide clean drinking water to each and every household in the State with special focus on border and kandi areas," he added. In his address, Member Parliament, Jugal Kishore Sharma highlighted the wel- fare programs and schemes launched by the Narendra Modi led government at the centre. He stressed on effec- tive implementation of the welfare schemes that focus on empowerment of women, raising the living standards of the poor and providing employment opportunities to the youth. Responding to the people's demands, the Minister and Member Parliament assured the people that water tanker would be provided within months' time to overcome the drinking water problem in Dhori Village. They also assured the people that issue of proper functioning of vet- erinary dispensary and Primary Health Centre in the village would be taken with the concerned quarters. Member Parliament assured the people to redress their demands with regard to blacktopping of various link roads. He also assured for blacktopping of 37 kms main road to Battal at the earliest. He announced Rs 5 lakh for stadium at Ambi Danna and Rs 5 lakh for village Gulaba Chapper. MLA Rajeev Sharma high- lighted development works being executed in Akhnoor and said that the govern- ment believes in efficient working as a tool to measure success of various govern- ment interventions and schemes. Later, the Minister also convened a public grievance redressal camp at Suchetgarh in which the peo- ple hailing from Badyal Brahmana, Rangpur, Satriyan, Samka, Gopar Basti, Gharana, Gharani, Baspur, Dablehar and other adjoining villages participat- ed. The villagers apprised the Minister about the prob- lems being faced by them related to power supply, road connectivity, healthcare and other basic amenities. The Minister assured them that all their genuine grievances would be redressed in a time bound manner. STATE TIMES NEWS KISHTWAR: District Development Commissioner Kishtwar Angrez Singh Rana on Sunday called upon public to cooperate with the departments in removing bottlenecks hampering devel- opmental works. He also warned that law shall take its own course against the persons involved in causing hindrances in the smooth execution of the works. He was speaking at a public meeting here at Gulabgarh (Padder) to get first- hand appraisal of the developmental sce- nario in the area and to have direct inter- action with the local residents about the problem they face in day to day life. Rana passed on spot directions to the concerned officers to resolve the issues on priority basis and assured the public that the matters which do not come under the compliance of the DDC would be taken up with the higher authorities. The DDC directed the officers of KVIB , Handicraft Handloom, Social Welfare Sheep/ Animal Husbandry, Labour, Horticulture, Agriculture - the departments directly involved with the schemes meant for the uplift of the poor masses to organize awareness camps at Gulabgarh Padder. Certain innovative suggestions regard- ing the improvement / development of Gulabargh were also given by the partic- ipants. The DDC assured that the beautifica- tion of Gulabgarh which includes illumi- nations from Entry gate to Helipad, parking yards, and parks shall be com- pleted before the commencement of coming Machail Yatra. He said that besides pilgrim tourism Gulabgarh will also be developed as base camp for the trackers. On spot directions were issued to the GREF authorities to remove the structures constructed illegally coming under the alignment of Galhar Sansari road under the Magistracy of the Tehsildar Padder. SSP Kishtwar Abrar Choudhary who was present on the occa- sion assured full assistance during the drive against such encroachments. The DDC also asked GREF authori- ties to complete the blacktopping of Karthie to Gulabgarh road before the onset of the winter season. DC calls for public cooperation in execution of projects STATE TIMES NEWS BILLAWAR: Dr Manohar Lal Sharma, Senior Congress leader and former Minister and General Secretary PCC, on Sunday held a monthly public meet- ing at village Kandharano in Ramkote Tehsil of Billawar Constituency of district Kathua in which a number of people from different walk of life were participated. Dr Sharma while interact- ing with the people of Kandharano and other adjoining villages of the area and raised serious concern over the betrayal of BJP with people of Jammu and the complete failure of PDP- BJP Government on all fronts. "The public of the entire Jammu region has suffered due to the lack of governance in the previous two and half years. Virtually all the ministers remained busy in enjoying the com- forts whereas the people suf- fered for the want of basic amenities" said and accused the BJP that it had surren- dered the interests of the Jammuites for the sake of power and deceived the peo- ple who voted heavily in favour of the party during the last Assembly elections. The AIIMS was shifted away from Jammu to Kashmir region and it was only due to the efforts put in by the peo- ple of Jammu that the Government was pressurized to announce another AIIMS at Jammu, but notification still awaited, he said. Failure of government exposed the real face of BJP and its leadership before the public of the region he said adding that BJP made tall claims and raised hollow slo- gans but after coming in power, it surrendered itself completely at the hands of PDP only to enjoy power. He appealed to all Jammuites to wake up, unite and fight for common cause of the region. Dr Sharma stated that the BJP always exploited the sentiments of Jammu province by making false promises particularly dur- ing the electioneering, but practically they did nothing after coming in power and real face of the party is exposed. He remarked that the both the Central and the State Governments miserably failed to create new employ- ment opportunities for the unemployed youth who are feeling cheated and brewing with anger and resentment. Dr. Sharma strongly criti- cized that the BJP-PDP Govt. fail to formulated a good employment policy and the new BJP-PDP's employ- ment policy which is totally against the interest of edu- cated unemployed youth. Dr Manohar Lal Sharma also criticized the central government over the steep rise in the prices of essential commodities which further worsened the financial posi- tion of general public espe- cially in case of food grains, vegitables and other items in daily use. Listing the failures of both the Central as well as the state governments, he stated that the ministers of the coalition government patro- nised corruption and pro- moted it in public life. Honest and dedicated offi- cers and the employees were harassed and put to great troubles by the coalition regime as they refused to dance to the tunes of the political bosses. Whereas the corrupt and the inefficient officers were given prized postings due to which the common masses suffered badly as there was no one to listen to their genuine issues. The corruption became the rule of the day and the pub- lic was made to pay heavy bribery to get their genuine and routine works in govern- ment offices. The government machin- ery was misused for the per- sonal benefits of the minis- ters and political workers. People of village Kandharno and Rajwalta showed serious concern over failure of water supply of their area since last two months. Dr Sharma said that the elected government became highly unpopular due to its anti people policies which is the reason that the people are not happy with the BJP- PPDP Govt. which is ulti- mately fail to win the confi- dence of the common man and bring transparence in governance and deliverance. STATE TIMES NEWS KISHTWAR: District DevelopmentCommissioner Kishtwar Angrez SinghRana on Sunday called upon public tocooperate with the departments inremoving bottlenecks hampering devel-opmental works. He also warned thatlaw shall take its own course against thepersons involved in causing hindrancesin the smooth execution of the works.

He was speaking at a public meetinghere at Gulabgarh (Padder) to get first-hand appraisal of the developmental sce-nario in the area and to have direct inter-action with the local residents about theproblem they face in day to day life.

Certain innovative suggestions regard-ing the improvement / development ofGulabargh were also given by the partic-ipants.

The DDC assured that the beautifica-tion of Gulabgarh which includes illumi-nations from Entry gate to Helipad,parking yards, and parks shall be com-

pleted before the commencement ofcoming Machail Yatra. He said thatbesides pilgrim tourism Gulabgarh willalso be developed as base camp for thetrackers. On spot directions were issuedto the GREF authorities to remove thestructures constructed illegally comingunder the alignment of Galhar Sansariroad under the Magistracy of theTehsildar Padder. SSP Kishtwar AbrarChoudhary who was present on the occa-sion assured full assistance during thedrive against such encroachments.
