OUR STAFF

Register online or in person at the Stowe Membership Desk. Each week of camp requires a non-refundable $10 deposit per child being registered. Spaces are held on a first come-first served basis. (Spaces are limited.) Registration closes the Friday PRIOR TO each week of camp. In order to avoid camp dues, cancellations must be made the prior Wednesday.

Playerspace: Weekly updates, highlights and specific information are sent via email on Friday afternoons. Camp Family Nights, special Y activities, our Swim Skills Assessment, Medication Form and the Lunch Menu will also be provided by Playerspace. Please ensure that we have your correct email for efficiency.

Campers are recognized for their outstanding behavior via Beads at our end of day Group Huddle time.

• BLUE Celebrates the camper who is honest, forth-right and “true-blue,” YMCA Character Trait HONESTY • RED Celebrates the camper who is caring, loving and “leads with kindness,” YMCA Character trait CARING • GREEN Celebrates the camper who is responsible, recycles and “makes right and good choices,” YMCA Character trait RESPONSIBILITY • YELLOW Celebrates the camper who is respectful, fair and “follows the golden rule,” YMCA Character trait RESPECT • PURPLE Celebrates the camper who is faithful, trusting and “believes in others,” YMCA Character trait FAITH

Additionally, counselors will have unique beads that campers may earn directly from them for special awards. All beads are kept on a necklace while they are at camp. Campers should wear their necklace every week they come to camp.

Camp payments are drafted according to the option you select at the time of registration: • on the 1st of the month • on the 15th of the month • weekly on the Friday prior to the start of the camp week.

We know we have the best staff in town. Our team is as diverse as our children and is comprised of men and women who are content experts and professionals in their fields. Our staff team is made up of college students, working professionals, and exceptional teens. Our staff undergo extensive training, are background checked and participate in regular risk management drills.

OPTIONS FOR GRADES: Rising 7th through 8th CAMP LOCATION: Stowe Family YMCA 196 YMCA Drive Belmont, NC 28012 WEEKS OFFERED: Every week from June 15-August 27 PRICING Member $140/weekNon-Member $171/week RIDES IN: 7am-9am CAMP ACTIVITIES: 9am-4:00pm RIDES OUT: 3:00pm-6:00pm

WATER BOTTLES, LUNCH, AND SNACKRefillable water bottle, lunch and two snacks should be sent daily. Breakfast and lunch is only provided by Gaston County School Nutrition Summer Feeding Program on select weeks.

HOW TO PREP: Sunscreen daily prior to the camp day, and send them in clothes that can get dirty.

CAMP OHANA offers a special leadership opportunities for teen rising 7th through 10th grades. The YMCA teen programs offer all the fun in Traditional Camp Ohana partnered with teen centered activities focused on leadership opportunities, service learning, and personal growth. Leaders’ In Training teens will be able to participate in teen-centered electives, community service projects, swimming, and junior lifeguard! LITs will travel twice weekly—once to a grown opportunity and a second time as a support with our younger campers.

REQUIREMENTS:• Must be a rising 7th or 8th Grader

SWIM ASSESSMENTS Our campers get to visit the pool twice a week with their huddle group. Swimming is a life skill as well as great exercise. Upon your child’s first visit to the pool, campers swim skills will be assessed and recorded. IMPORTANT REMINDERSLABEL EVERYTHING: Please be sure to put your child’s name on everything!

COMPLETE MEDICATION FORMS: Medication forms must be completed if your child require daily or emergency medications. (I.E Inhaler for Asthma)

BIG KAHUNA ICE FRIDAYS: Big Kahuna will join us each Friday, if your camper would like a snow cone please turn in $1.50 at Rides In.

RIDES IN 7:00 AM - 9:00 AMCampers should be dropped off on the left hand side of the YMCA. A Staff member will be there to check them into their huddle. Campers cannot be dropped off before 7:00am.

CHECK IN AT THE FRONT DESK 9:00 AM - 10:00 AMIf you need to drop off after 9:00 am, please park your vehicle and come inside to the front desk. Late check ins will be received at the front desk from 9:00am-10:00am. Campers are not to be dropped off after 10:00am.

MORNING ASSEMBLYLights, Camera, Action! Morning Assembly sets the stage for fun & learning each day! Counselors will teach campers songs, skits and our Camp Pledge. This allows our Campers to get energized and extra LOUD! LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT THROUGH HANDS ON LEARNINGY Staff will guide LITs and CILTs to lead group activities and games. Bringing up our next leaders through programs. Both LITs and CILTs will also travel locally for community service program, college tours, and professional work places.

ELECTIVE FRIDAYSCamper choice is strongly advocated for at the YMCA. Elective choices for your camper include Archery & Slingshot, STEAM, Yoga and Dance, Environmental Learning, Activate Ohana (Fitness), and Team Sports.

HUDDLE TIME 3:30 PM - 4:00 PMEach Huddle uses this time to recognize good behavior and celebrate accomplishments.

RIDES OUT 3:00 PM - 6:00 PMCamper pick up is on the left hand side of the Y. Each day YMCA Staff will ask for a Code Word for each camper being picked up and have parents sign them out.

Our LIT Campers get to visit the pool twice a week on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

LIT Campers will travel twice weekly: Mondays for their growth opportunity Tuesdays traditional camp field trip. Camper shirts are available at Camp Orientation Night as well as at the front desk throughout the summer.

Campers will engage in the following activities each week based off of the weeks theme:

OUTDOOR FIELD SPORTSSlingshots (Rising 1st & and up) & Archery (Rising 3rd and up) ENRICHMENT AND PHYSICAL ACTIVITIESSTEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, & math) skills as well as HEPA (Healthy Eating & Physical Activity).

TEAM BUILDING EXPERIENCES: Teens will learn how to work together while being involved in activities such as water balloon games and scavenger hunts.

DEVOTIONS: We set aside a time for Teens to learn how to incorporate character traits in their daily routine. The YMCA strongly encourages our Teens to be an example to others by showing traits such as responsibility.

ENVIRONMENTAL LEARNING: At Camp Ohana Counselors and Campers learn how to enjoy the environment while also taking care of it. Campers will enjoy time in our creeks, trails and multiple fields.

CAMPERS IN LEADERSHIP TRAINING

CAMPERS IN LEADERSHIP TRAINING (CILT) Our Campers In Leadership Training program is designed around building up our future leaders. Each week, we will focus on a different aspect of leadership development, have the opportunity to shadow Y staff, as well as lead activities with younger campers. CILTs will travel twice weekly—once to a growth opportunity and a second time as a support with our younger campers.

REQUIREMENTS:• Must be a rising 9th or 10th Grader• Must apply and interview.• Must demonstrate a willingness to learn, be coached, and work well with others. Periodic evaluations conducted by CILT Staff.

TEEN EXTREME

TEEN EXTREME Teen Extreme, teens (rising 7th through 10th) will enjoy a week of field trips throughout the Gaston/Charlotte region. Each day, teens will leave the Y and take a day-long trip enjoying our area. All admission fees are included in the cost of the week. Campers must arrive by 9:00am. All trips will return by 4:00 pm in time for Rides Out.
