RAJASTHANI CULTURAL PROGRAMME SPIC MACAY
The Institute organized a Rajasthani Cultural Programme on 1st September, 2014 with efforts of The Society for the
Promotion of Indian Classical Music and Culture amongst Youth (SPIC MACAY) that has been inspiring classical music and
dance, folk arts, crafts etc. in educational institutions. The programme witnessed legendary Bade Gajee Khan Manganiar as
the lead singer; the group leader and Khamaycha player Deen Mohommad; Jete Khan, the vocalist on Harmonium; Jasu
Khan on Khartaal; Roshan Khan on Dholak and AlaudeenLanga on morchang. The lead singer Bade Gajee Khan Manganiar has
received National Sangeet Natak Akademi award from the President of India. Apart from their musical intricacies,
audience was confronted to their rare instruments by themselves. It was unexpected by everyone to hear such an alluring
performance of vocal and musical stunts with use of non- modern instruments. The vigorness of effort made everyone
realize what we had been missing by not appreciating the remarkable India’s traditional art and respective artists. The
event ended with a vote of thanks and audience’s huge adoration of the mighty performance put up by all the artists.
KRISHNA MANIA
18th August, 2014 witnessed the celebration of the birth anniversary of Lord
Krishna, the day popularly known as Janmashtami. This festival is celebrated with
immense devotion and zeal all across India on ashtami of the Krishna Paksha in the
month of Bhadrapad. The celebration started with a collective dance performance
by first and second year students since history marks Janmashtami celebration by a
folk dance, Raasleela, where girls circumambulate around Lord Krishna's idol dancing
merrily. The dance performance was followed by the DahiHandi competition which
involves making human pyramid and breaking the handi filled with dahi. The team
with which takes minimum time to perform this task is judged as the potential
winner. Four teams representing their respective year participated in the event. The
team representing third year emerged as the winner. The day followed a large
number of devotees worshipping a incarnation Lord Krishna which marks the end of
evil and darkness of the world.
VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENT
The institute organized a volleyball tournament from 13th to 15thSeptember,
2014. Six teams participated in the tournament and each team paid an entry
fee of Rs. 600. 4 teams represented I and II year; 2 for each year. III and IV
year each had 1 team to represent their caliber. The teams were divided into 2
pools. Qualifiers were held for 2 days and with their breathtaking efforts four
teams were qualified for semi-finals; each representing each of the four
batches. In semi-finals, II year took a surprise win over their IV year rivals
and entered the finals. On the other hand, II year team first defeated the
freshly formed I year team easily and then later took over the champions title
in a highly entertaining 5 set match. The winner was rewarded with prize money
of Rs. 2100 while the runner up team had to satisfy with a complementary prize
of Rs. 1200.
GANESH CHATURTHI
NIT Uttarakhand celebrated Ganpati Mahotsav from 29th to 31st August. Ganpati Mahotsav began with a procession of the idol
of Lord Ganesha with fanatics enchanting the phrase "Ganpati Bappa Morya" all the way. The idol was placed on an elevated
platform for the convenience of devotees. The priest led the rituals to invoke life into the idol by chanting of mantras. On very
next day, 30th August, 2014 Ganesh Chaturthi was celebrated. This festival is celebrated by Hindus around the world as the
birthday of Lord Ganesha. A series of cultural events were held after the Pooja and Prasad Vitran. On the final day, the idol was
taken for the street procession followed by dancing devotees. The procession came to an end with the immersion of idol in the
Alaknanda River symbolizing a ritual see-off of lord Ganesha wishing the Lord to return next year to give his blessings.
INAUGRATION OF THE LITERARY SOCIETY
NIT Uttarakhand inaugurated its literary forum, “The Literary Society,
What are your thoughts?” on the occasion of Hindi Diwas, 14th
September, 2014. Prof. D. D. Maithani from H.N.B. Garhwal University
and Mr. C.S. Tomar, Ex-OSD, VNIT Nagpur were present to grace the
occasion. Various faculty members were also present on this occasion.
The ceremony began with the Saraswati Vandana and the welcoming of
the Chief Guests which was followed by a Kavya Gosthi and extempore in
Hindi. The prominence of Hindi in the northern belt of India and now
worldwide very clearly shows the beauty of the Indian culture and its
lifestyle. Hindi thus acts as the unifying force and represents our roots,
our origin and the joy of our very existence. The inauguration of The
Literary Society of NIT Uttarakhand gives a chance to all the students
who have interest in literary activities in one form or the other. The
Literary Society strives to relive and enjoy literature through various
literary events and sessions that would be organized throughout the
year. The inauguration of the club marks the importance and the
necessity of literature in all forms of life.
FACULTY MEMBERS ATTEND CONVOCATION AT VNIT
Seventeen faculty members were deputed to attend the 12th Convocation of VNIT Nagpur on 12th September, 2014 to gain
essential information and exposure to conduct the 1st Convocation at NIT UK. The faculty members were placed in different
committees for the convocation and were assigned different responsibilities. Faculty members immensely benefitted from
the exposure and obtained valuable information regarding the arrangement of Convocation. Apart from attending the
Convocation, faculty members also visited their respective departments at VNIT to get first hand exposure of teaching
pedagogies and research activities.
BUILDING PLANS DISCUSSION MEETING OF PERMANENT CAMPUS
The meeting for the discussion of Building Plans of the permanent campus of NIT Uttarakhand was held at New Delhi on
September 6th & 7th, 2014. The meeting was attended by members from NIT Uttarakhand, experts from VNIT Nagpur, and
representatives from DDF Consultants Pvt. Limited. The Building Plans were presented by representatives DDF Consultants
Pvt. Limited and the presentation was followed by detailed discussion. Buildings plans of the Administration block, Director’s
Office, Registrar’s Room, Deputy Director’s office, Small Departments, Classrooms Complex, Library Auditorium, Single
seated hostel, Three seated hostel, Health centre, Shopping centre, Estate office, School building, Canteen, Club House,
Guest House, Transit house, Non-teaching Staff Quarter, Senior Faculty Quarter and Director’s Bungalow at the permanent
campus were discussed in the meeting. Many important suggestions and proposals were incorporated and proper assessment
of feasibility and functionality was done for all the proposed buildings.
FACULTY ACHIEVEMENTS
1. NIT Uttarakhand is extremely proud to announce that Dr. Indrajit Nagpure, Assistant Professor of Physics,
received a research grant of Rs. 16,00,000/- (Rs. Sixteen Lakhs) for his project “Synthesis and development of
polymeric compounds (phenylated quinolone based) for OLED (Organic light emitting devices) applications” under
the Young Scientists Project Scheme. The grant was awarded by the Department of Sciences and Technology
(DST), Govt. of India, under the Science and Engineering Research Board.
2. Dr. Ashwini Kumar Yadav, Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering, has earned his PhD from IIT Roorkee
for his thesis “Asymmetric Ballooning of Pressure Tube under Loca in Indian PHWR.” The institute wishes him all
the success in his future endeavours.

NEWS FROM PLACEMENT CELL
Three companies namely Yodlee, Info Edge, and Smart Utility visited the campus for selection of students of the Institute.
About 15 CSE students were shortlisted for campus placement on 8th and 9th of September, 2014 for Yodlee, 10th
September, 2014 for Info Edge and on 12th September, 2014 for Smart Utility. Two students (Vijay Kumar Thakur
(BT11CSE002) and Ravi Singh Shekhawat (BT11CSE025)) have been selected by Yodlee. Smart Utility has not yet declared
the results.
