What is Technology Use?

TECHNOLOGY USE IS…

Using the computer, overhead, etc., for presenting information.

A PowerPoint presentation by a teacher, teachers aide, classmate, etc (yawn).

The students typing a paper.

WHY ISN’T TECHNOLOGY USE NOT ENOUGH FOR THE STUDENTS?

The technology needs to be part of their learning.

When students develop databases, for instance, they are constructing their own conceptualization of the organization of a content domain. How we construct knowledge depends upon we already know, which depends on the kinds of experiences that we have had, how we have organized those experiences

into knowledge structures, and what we believe about what we know.

WHAT IS TECHNOLOGY INTERGRATION?

TECHNOLOGY INTERGRATION IS…

Technology integration, as defined by the National Forum on Education Statistics (2005), Forum Unified Education Technology Suite, "is the incorporation of technology resources and technology-based practices into the daily routines, work, and management of schools“ (According to Technology Integration Part 1)

TECHNOLOGY INTERGRATION IS…

“… when students work with computer technologies, instead of being controlled by them, they enhance the capabilities of the computer, and the computer enhances their thinking and learning.” - Jonassen, Carr, Yueh

Basically any reasonable and proper Technology should and could be integrated into a classroom…
