LEARNING PLAN: CONTENT MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS
LEARNING PLAN: CONTENT MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS
One ski l l that is relevant to al l three job l istings is an understanding of Content Management Systems. This technology is important for any responsibi l it ies I may have while publishing, edit ing, modifying, and analyzing content onl ine. There are many diff erent types of CM Systems, including the application I use for my COM 250 blog, Wordpress. However, my knowledge of the various options and their ful l abi l i t ies is l imited.
For this semester, I can focus on gaining more experience using Wordpress since I have already decided to use it during this course. Simply playing around with al l of the features in my free time wil l help. A half an hour or so a day gives me a steady amount of t ime to become more comfortable using this type of CMS. Perhaps a goal could be to uti l ize al l of the available widgets. Another goal could be to create another personal Wordpress blog to experiment with managing content for a diff erent purpose and for a diff erent audience.
By the time I graduate, I would l ike to have a more general understanding of al l Content Management Systems and which ones are appropriate for certain situations. I can achieve this by watching online tutorials (ex: lynda.com) or enrol l ing in a training class off ered by many universit ies. One diffi culty that may arise is that I am very new to the fi eld and I have no formal experience in content strategy otherwise.
