Purpose of this Document The purpose of this document is to describe how-to integrate and use Softing's FFusb interface

card with PACTware.

Assumptions / Preconditions It is assumed that the reader of this document is familiar with (a) the FOUNDATION fieldbus H1

technology and the capabilities of available field devices and (b) with the FDT container

software PACTware.

Introduction FDT is an open technology that enables users to easily access and extract intelligent

information from their automation products. Depending on the actual installation FDT

technology requires three, maximum four types of components.

FDT Container Application A Windows application that represents the user interface. The container application relies on CommDTM's to access the communication layer and invokes vendor specific DeviceDTM's to operate field devices.

CommDTM A commDTM represents communication devices like PC communication cards, couplers, gateways, and linking devices.Provided by the interface card manufacturer.

GatewayDTM GatewayDTMs are required if transitions between different network protocols exist. A gatewayDTM goes into action between the communication DTM and the device DTM..

DeviceDTM In a comparison the DeviceDTM corresponds to the printer driver. It is used in different systems in the same way.

Environment The example environment consists of

Computer running Windows 7 SP1

PACTware Version 4.0

FFusb FOUNDATION fieldbus H1 interface card

Two FOUNDATION fieldbus field devices

Standard power conditioner for FOUNDATION fieldbus networks

Software Installation First install as following the three components that make up the system.

Step Action 1 Locate the software CD coming with the FFusb and install the hardware driver and the

FF H1 commDTM. 1.a First, install the USB driver for the FFusb interface card. Depending on your version of

Windows you might have to answer a few security questions.

1.b Restart the computer 1.c Second, install the commDTM for the FFusb interface card. Depending on your version

of Windows you might have to answer a few security questions.

Page 4: Technology: FOUNDATION™ fieldbus H1€¦ · SOFTING LIBRARY. Technology: FOUNDATION™ fieldbus H1 . Product: FFusb . Topic: How-To Use Softing's FFusb with PACTware™ for . configuring

Step Action 2 Download and install PACTware (FDT frame application). You can download PACTware,

for example, from here . (http://www.pepperl-fuchs.us/usa/en/classid_162.htm)

3 Locate or download the required deviceDTMs of all of your field devices and install them. Depending on your version of Windows you might have to answer a few security questions. Install Example 1: Yokogawa DTM library for Fieldbus Foundation devices

Install Example 2: Magnetrol DTM library for Fieldbus Foundation devices.

Display Elements of the FFusb interface card On the front of the FFusb are three LEDs (FF H1 Power; USB Status; Traffic) indicating the

device status and the status of the H1 links.

The Table below shows the symbols used in this document for the various indications of the

display elements (LED block).

Symbol Meaning for Display Element LED OFF

Display Element Description FF H1 Power Status of H1 Interface

Off No connection; No supply voltage is present.

Green Established Connection FF-H1; supply voltage is present.

USB Status Status of USB interface Off USB cable is not connected.

Red USB Cable is connected; application (such as communication DTM) has not initialized hardware access, yet.

Green USB Cable is connected; application has initialized hardware access.

Green Device is transmitting data over USB

Traffic Status of data traffic

Off H1-channel is not configured or not in token ring

Green fast 5 Hz Device acts as Link Active Scheduler (LAS) on channel H1

Green slow 0.5 Hz Device is in logical token ring but does not act as LAS

Connecting the FFusb Step Action

1 Locate the USB cable that is included with Softing's FFusb interface card and use it to connect the FFusb with a free USB port on your computer.

2 Locate the H1 port of the FFusb and connect this port to your H1 network. Ensure that the H1 network is powered by a conformant power conditioner. At this point you should see the following LED pattern on the FFusb interface card. FF H1 Power green USB Status red Traffic off

Selecting the FFusb within PACTware The following steps demonstrate how to use Softing's FFusb within PACTware to gain access to

field devices.

Step Action 1 Start the FDT container application PACTware 2 First, you need to instantiate the commDTM. Hover with your mouse over the symbol

"HOST PC" and right-click with your mouse (You can also use the F3 key to open the device catalog).

Step Action 5 After few seconds a symbol representing the FFusb interface card will be added to the

project.

Testing the FFusb within PACTware The following steps demonstrate how to generate a live list of all connected H1 field devices

within PACTware.

Step Action 1 Right click on the FFUSB symbol and select "Connect" or select the FFUSB symbol and

use the menu entry "Device->Connect".
