Technology Education
Technology Education helps students develop an appreciation and fundamental understanding of technology through the study and application of materials, tools, processes, inventions, structures and artifacts of the past and present.
Technology may be defined as “How people modify their natural world to suit their purposes” (from Technology for All Americans).
Technology Education
This series of courses allows students to apply knowledge, tools, skills, and insights to the solving of problems found in the following areas while at Morehead High School:
• Fundamentals of Technology 8110• Communication Systems 8125• Manufacturing Systems 8115• Technology Advanced Studies 8005
Fundamentals of Technology
This course provides prerequisite hands-on experiences in principles and processes essential for the study of the technology systems courses and develops a foundation for students interested in any technical field of study.
Examples of hands-on experiences include:
• Shipping container design activities• Maglev cars• Cardboard chairs• Fuel Cells• Assembly of electronic kits

Manufacturing Systems
This course introduces students to principles of past and present manufacturing systems. Emphasis is placed on computer modeling, flexible manufacturing systems and computer-aided manufacturing concepts.
Examples of hands-on experiences include:
• School based projects• Personal projects• Design, build, and test a Catapult, Trebuchet or Ballista.• Participate in a group project that will require the class to
conceptualize, establish, maintain and dissolve a manufacturing based enterprise from start to finish.

This course introduces students to classical and contemporary visual, audio and electronic communication using state-of-the-art technology. Emphasis is placed on analyzing, designing, testing and evaluating communication systems such as: computer operating systems, the Internet, electronic, optical and digital communication systems .
Examples of hands-on experiences include:
• Build / use a Pinhole camera.• Develop film• Design PowerPoint presentations• Tear down and build computers• Create working floor plans of a house

Technology Advanced StudiesIn this course students select and pursue a topic of interest using knowledge and skills gained from previous technical and academic courses. Emphasis is placed on having the students select, direct, and evaluate their own study while using complex technological tools. This study allows the integration of science, mathematics, or language arts, the fine arts, and social studies with the application of technology. This course is for students who have completed three technical credits in Technology Education.
Activities for this course may include:• school-based enterprise• job shadowing• service-learning projects• apprenticeship• cooperative education• internship.
