Page 2: Technology and second language acquisition

Technology is a body of knowledge used to create tools, develop skills, and extract or collect materials. It is also the application of science (the combination of the scientific method and material) to meet an objective or solve a problem. http://science.education.nih.gov/supplements/nih4/technology/guide/lesson1.htm

Technology can be most broadly defined as the entities, both material and immaterial, created by the application of mental and physical effort in order to achieve some value. In this usage, technology refers to tools and machines that may be used to solve real-world problems. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Technology#Definition_and_usage

DISADVANTAGES OF USING TECHNOLOGY IN SECOND LANGUAGE

ACQUISTIONTechnology is not available for everybody (low-budget school and low-income students)

Teachers and learners should have basic technology knowledge before they apply computer technology to assist second language teaching and learning.

The software of computer assisted language learning (CALL) is still imperfect. Current computer technology mainly deals with reading, listening and writing skills. Even though, some speaking programs have been developed recently, their functions are still limited.

Computers cannot handle unexpected situations.
