Materials and technologies specialisations

Materials

COST OF SUBJECT: $50

TOPICS COVERED: Students are involved in a broad range of traditional,

contemporary and emerging materials and specialist areas that typically involve

extensive use of technologies. Students develop the confidence to make ethical

and sustainable decisions about solutions and the processes used to make them:

Sem 1 Sem 2

• Serving Tray

• Solar Powered Car

• Technology Holder

• Mobile movement

Assessment

Students create design ideas, identify product processes and

justify decisions in a portfolio of their product. They select and

use appropriate technologies skilfully and safely to produce

high-quality designed products, evaluating final product.

Graphics and Design

COST OF SUBJECT: All costs covered by the Student Resource Scheme.

TOPICS COVERED: Students are involved in graphical communication of ideas

and concepts. They produce rendered, illustrated views for marketing and use

software to produce views of products:

Assessment

Students plan and manage projects using a design digital

portfolio. Students create designed and establish criteria for

success, including sustainability considerations, and use these

to evaluate their ideas and designed solutions and processes.

They create and connect design ideas and processes of

increasing complexity and justify decisions.

Engineering principles and systems

COST OF SUBJECT: All costs covered by the Student Resource Scheme

TOPICS COVERED: Students are involved in how forces can be used to create

light, sound, heat, movement, control or support in systems. Knowledge of these

principles and systems enables the design and production of sustainable,

engineered solutions.:

Assessment

Students will progressively develop knowledge and

understanding of how forces and the properties of materials

affect the behaviour and performance of designed engineering

solutions. Students create design ideas, identify product

processes, justify decisions and evaluate final product in a

portfolio of their product.

Digital Technologies

COST OF SUBJECT: All costs covered by the Student Resource Scheme

TOPICS COVERED: Students consider the capacity of information

systems to systematically transform data into solutions that respond to the

needs of individuals, society, the economy and the environment :

Sem 1 Sem 2

• HTML coding

• Digital hardware (cameras)

• Coding robots

• 3D Printing

Assessment

Students plan and manage digital projects using a design digital

portfolio. Students design and evaluate user experiences and

test results. They evaluate information systems and their

solutions in terms of risk, sustainability and potential for

innovation and enterprise. They share and collaborate online,

establishing protocols for the use, transmission and

maintenance of data and projects.
