n behalf of the coaches, players, and myself, welcome to the 2012 Football Banquet, where we honor and celebr

he 2011 football season, and all who made it possible.

hank you for your entire support during the season. While the run to the city s emi-finals wasertainly exciting, it was only made possible with th e support from that we received from beginning

nd. This past season was elevating for the Clinton program. We were able to achieve an on -the fie

erformance that we have not experienced in 22 seasons. Those gains were made possible because o

he young men here tonight and the support that you gave them. Because of that support, the younmen were persistently, consistently resilient. No matter what the score, our kids played hard. A

esounding theme throughout the PSAL is that we are a hard-fought, physical team that makes youarn every single yard you get, every single point you get, every second we are on the gridiron,

hether we are up or down on the scoreboard, YOU GET OUR ALL!

hat same attitude takes places in the classroom. For all the wins on the field, for the playoffdvancement, the program is more impressed by what these scholar -athletes produce while sitting

ehind a desk, not just when they are in pads on the field. Coach Joe Prezioso, my coach, my ment

nd a father figure would always say to me, success is getting our kids into college. Football is a

ehicle to use to not just get to college; its a tool to get you through college. The effort, commitme

edication, preparation, the desire to learn all are traits that must be developed in football and thosraits can be tr ansferred to other areas of life.

hese young men are certainly doing that. The fundamentals of our program, our team, our young

men, are a combination of both. We will always judge our success by doing our best in the classroo

nd the field. For that is what makes a Clinton Alumni, a great Clinton man, a PDQ man. As weecognize a new crop of men who wil l cross over from being players to bei ng leaders of the

ommunity, we say welcome, the foundation has been poured, and we are here to assist you in crea

    our lives.

ur honored guest is an example of that. Ramon Guzman graduated from Clinton, matriculated at

University of Buffalo, and is taking advantage of the opportunity to play football professionallyormerly for the NFLs Indianapolis Colts and currently for the Montreal Alouettes of the Canadia

ootball League. We look forward to hearing about how the foundation laid has allowe d him to cli

    he ladder of life.

or the parents, alumni, and friends of the program, welcome, and your continued support anduidance is needed, now more than ever. The young men that we are honoring and celebrating

onight, especially the ones who are slated to graduate in June, have created a path to college and

niversity, to create themselves as leaders, public servants, entrepreneurs, teachers, coaches, a pathhat will allow them to go forward and continue to build their community. They are exam ples to the

    nes who will follow.

nce again, thank you all the support over the season. Lets have lot of fun tonight celebrating tho

    moments.

    Head Coach Howard Langley

2012GOVERNORS FOOTBALL AWARDS BANQUET HONORED GUEST:

    RAMON GUZMAN

his years honored guest is one of our own. Bronx native Ramon Guzman was a four year letterman under Coach E

ardella (Huge Shoutout to Coach G who was the Head Coach here for 12 years. In addition to Ramon, Coach Gard

so coached, Sam Garnes (New York Jets and Giants) and DeQawn Mobley (CCSF, Juco All-American, All Big XIexas A&M, NY Jets training Camp) as well as countless others who have gone on to be great leaders in our

    ommunity.

s a senior in 2001, Ramon rushed for 1,076 yards on offense while registering a whopping 125 tackles. He was an

ew York City selection, and in our biased opinion, should have been the Daily News Player of the Year in 2001. anhe runner-up as the Daily News Player of the Year , and represented the school, the city, and the state by playing in t

002 Governors Bowl (New York State vs. New Jersey). Ramon was a terrific all-around athlete displayed by earni

hree letters in track and one in wrestling while he attended the Castle on the Parkway.

f course, Ramon was a great student, graduating from here and taking his academic and athletic talent to Buffalo.

While focusing on the very challenging major of biology, Ramon showed he was a team player by playing five differositions in his career as a Bull, and is credited with setting the foundation for then head coach Turner Gill, who led t

ulls to their first bowl game on the basis of Ramons contributions to the program. Remember, Buffalo had just

eturned to Division 1 football, FBS football just three years prior to Ramons arrival. As a Bull, Ramon had

pportunities to compete against historic programs and visit settings that outline college football history such as AubWisconsin, Syracuse, Iowa and Boston College,

amon in true Bronx, true Clinton, true PDQ fashion earned an opportunity as an unrestricted free agent with the

ndianapolis Colts in 2007 after his football career ended at Buffalo. Ramon was on the NFL roster for the 2007 seas

team that finished 13-3 under head coach Tony Dungy, quarterback Peyton Manning, and 2007 AP Defensive Play

he Year, and PDQ favorite, Bob Sanders.

fter being released for business decisions in 2008, Ramon took his abiliy, skill and true Bronx PDQ grit, back up no

his time over the border to the Canadian Football League. Playing in the city of Montreal, Ramon has been an integrart of the Alouettes defense, as they have hosted the Grey Cup twice in his tenure the back to back seasons of 2009

    010. Two of the greatest quarterbacks in the history of Pro Football, Peyton Manning and Anthony Calvillo, have ha

he pleasure of having Ramon as their teammate. He will always be one of our teammates, and we wish Ramonontinued success and PDQ effort in his future.

TWO KENNEDY COACHES END UP WITH GOVS

The first time he met with his new football players at DeWitt Clinton High School, longtime J

    F. Kennedy player and coach Ivan Rosario told them, Ill always be a Kennedy Knight and yo

will be Clinton Governors. He then pledged to them, but now Im your coach. Im here to g

you all the tools to win; to give the kids at Clinton all that I did at Kennedy for 16 years.

Clinton coach and graduate Howard Langley said of snatching the Kennedy coaches. I knewey were in it for the kids. Not all coaches are in it for the kids.

What seems to be going most smoothly is the relationship between the players and the new coaches.

They jelled right in with us from the very first week, said Jeremiah Obeng-Agyapong, a senior running back and free sa

Their new family is Clinton now.

    BEHIND ENEMY LINES: FORMER KENNEDY

HEAD COACH VEGA LANDS WITH GOVS

tar fullback/middle linebacker Ashton McKenzie said Vega has already made a difference for him. He

ant do anything without the new coach getting in his ear.

He pushes me, the junior standout said. Every time I run the ball, he screams, Ashton, keep yourads low. Sometimes when the play is down field, I stop and he yells, Ashton, you got to pursue.

HAYESTRANSFERCAMILOARRIVESINNICKOFTIMEFORGOVSntering the summer, Howard Langley lowered his personal expectations for the coming season. He was without a

quarterback and had several other key losses to fill in. As the season

beckons, Langley hasnt done a complete 180, but his once-gloomyoutlook has changed.

Ryan Camilo can take the credit for that and, to a lesser degree, so can

former John F. Kennedy coach Alex Vega, the teams new defensivecoordiantor. The senior quarterback left Cardinal Hayes and landed at

Clinton, giving the Governors the signal-caller they needed when Joaq

    DeJesus graduated in June.

He could be good he could be very good, the coach said. Hes very smart. He picked up our offense fast. Well ble to make in-game adjustments with him. Hes a kid that can run and can throw.

Everything changed with him, junior fullback/linebacker Asthon McKenzie said.

    WEEKONE:CAMILO,GOVS IMPRESS IN SEASON-OPENING WIN OVER SHARKS26-14

porting some new players as well as assistant coaches, the DeWitt Clinton Governors recorded an

mpressive 26-14 opening day victory over Sheepshead Bay, on Sept. 10 at home.

When asked how far into the season they can carry the momentum the Governors gained on

pening day, Ashton McKenzie simply responded Yankee Stadium, in reference to the site of the

SAL City Championship division title game.

espite the impressive win, Clinton coach Howard Langley was cautious with his glee.

We have a long way to go, said Langley. A lot of things to iron out.

WEEK TWO:GOVS TURNOVER BALL, CONTEST TO PIRATES 21-0

We gave them the game, Govs Head Coach Howard Langley said. That will not happen again this season.

The end result is that we are a very good football team, he said, but we have a wholot of work to do.

WEEK THREE PREVIEW:E-HALL MORGAN:WE HATO PLAY FAST, TOUGH, THEY HAVE ATHLETES

We knew we had two more hard games coming up (DeWitt Clinton and Tottenville)

needed that win to boost our confidence going into the next game.

Our next game (Saturday) is against Clinton. Everybody on the

team hates Clinton because of last year. They beat us last year.

hey sent our seniors home. We didnt want that senior class to leave that early, not in the first round of

e playoffs. We werent supposed to lose that game.

verybody on the team is just going to out and give it all theyve got. Youre gonna see it. Its gonna be way

fferent than Boys & Girls. When we play were gonna let it all out..

Were not really changing up the strategy. Were doingthe same thing we did last week. Clinton is strong.

Every year we played them, theyre strong. They have

athletes. We have to be fast about everything.

WEEK THREE:GOVS ROLL UP THE DUTCH IN

    THE MUD,30-14

Mother Nature cried on us last night, so that didnt hurt and also our trabroke and our grass was a little thick, Clinton coach Howard Langley sa

    with a wink.

    WEEK FOUR:GOVS BUZZ HORNETS 42-0!

or the first couple of games, it wasnt clear whether the Clinton Governors were up orown. They won their first game 26-14 win but were shut out 21-0 in the second. In their

st two games, however, Clinton overwhelmed its opponents, winning 30-8 over Erasmus

nd 42-0 at Midwood on Sunday. Clinton compiled a whopping 517 yards on offense,

    cluding 414 on the ground.

WEEK FIVE: GAME OF 2 HALFS GOVS FAIL TO

EAL THE DEAL,CHIEFS WIN IN OT,20-14

They found a hole in our scheme and they made us pay, said Clinton coach Howard Langley.

Coach Langley and his players called this loss extremely tough, but also valuable.

The Bronx is very close this year, said Langley. The team learned today whatplayoff football is like.

After the game, wide receiver Rudje Beckford was still focused on the loss and the

toughness of his teammates. Im just happy my team fought to the end and never g

up, said Beckford, his eyes slightly misty. My mind isnt clear right now.

WEEK SIX:GOVS SHOCKED BY FALCONS,22-14, FALL TO .500Wagner took advantage Saturday against a team thought to be one of the PSALs best. Paturzo saw

Clinton in Week 3 when the Governors trounced Erasmus Hall, 30-8, at home. The Falcons were

laying Lehman at Clintons field following that game. Paturzo came away very impressed, but with

    ame plan.

I thought we would be lucky just to hang in there, the legendary coach said. And then if we did thopefully something good happens.

he key was the defense, which stopped Clintons vaunted triple-option attack. When Paturzo saw tGovernors (3-3) against Erasmus Hall, his plan was to focus on bruising fullback Ashton McKenzie

We put a lot of guys on the fullback, Paturzo said. It wasnt just, Go, you have the fullback tw

uys had the fullback. We really put a lot of people on that. The pressure was on them with the

uarterback and we stopped a few of their pitches.

CHOOL FOOTBALL; One Last Chance for Coach at Clinton

    ovember 12, 1989

sk Joe Prezioso about the games he remembers and the memories all seem to

meld into one for the football coach at DeWitt Clinton High School in the Bronx.

e remembers the city championship games of course. There were three: one forhe so-called mythical title against Stuyvesant in 1968, and two after formal

ublic Schools Athletic League playoffs began, against Jefferson in 1974 and

ayside in 1976. But each one was painful because Clinton lost, by 14-0, 8-6 and9-6.

The thing I remember about Jefferson is that they had a linebacker by the name

f Otis Wilson who knocked down a field-goal attempt that could've won theame for us,'' Prezioso said yesterday. ''The year Bayside beat us, they had Jamie

ovington, who went on to star at Syracuse. The thing I remember abouttuyvesant is that their coach, Merl Thrush, had one of the best offensive minds inootball.'' 23 Years at Helm The 63-year-old Prezioso was rehashing matters because he has announced his retiremen

he end of this season. His teams had a .674 winning percentage, 124-60-5, when he began his 23d year at the helm th

eason, the longest active tenure in the P.S.A.L.

spent my first 13 years from 1953-66 as assistant coach at Clinton to Doc Weidman,'' said Prezioso. ''I became hea

oach in '66, left for a year in 1969 to take an assistant principal's job in Scarsdale and returned in 1970. I'll still be anssistant principal at Clinton next year, and I'll be around until January 1991, but next year, I'll be listed as the associ

oach and I'll be in charge of fund-raising.'' Clinton Is 8-1

efore he passes the torch, however, there's a good chance that Prezioso could have his most memorable season in hinal one.

linton has an 8-1 record and is headed for next week's playoffs. In their season finale on Friday, the Governors

ounced John Adams of Queens, 37-6. When John F. Kennedy scored a 28-20 victory over Adlai Stevenson, the only

am to beat Clinton this season, it wrapped up the Bronx title for Clinton.

nd in a school more noted for its basketball players - among them, Dolph Schayes, Tiny Archibald and Butch Lee -

rezioso may have one of the school's most memorable football players in Dan LiSanti.

iSanti is ranked No. 1 academically in the school with a 95 percent grade-point average, and aspires to become a civ

    ngineer.

My father, Frank, went to Clinton back in the 50's and went on to play offensive end at the University of Virginia,''

iSanti said. ''I didn't come to the school until my sophomore year, when I moved in with my grandmother in the Brolike it much better here than New Jersey.

ttitude has always been one of Prezioso's strong suits. He writes notes to his players on the day before games and ha

hem to them personally, along with a bagel. And he doesn't think championships are the most important thing.

don't care whether it's Division I, II or III, I try to send all my kids to school,'' Prezioso explained. ''That's the mean

    f our season.'
