  • Predicted: Video cameras would record whole flight Arduino would collect data Burst at 30,480 m HOBO would collect data successfully 2 cockroaches would survive Structure would hold What really happened: Video cameras shut off at 35 and 37 minutes Arduino did not collect data Burst at 22,000 m HOBO collected temperature and humidity data successfully 2 cockroaches survived Structure held Results and Analysis

  • Two unheated cockroaches died Two heated cockroaches lived Cold is most detrimental Most important for high altitude space elevator is thermal control Unsure of effects of pressure on humans Humans less resilient than cockroaches Can only know for sure cold at 22,000 m will kill a person Conclusions

  • Keep subsystems better isolated while loading cockroaches Test arduino in morning before at launch site Get programing done earlier DO NOT DRIP EPOXY Lessons Learned
  • Slide 18
  • Isolate and feed cockroaches until launch Keep satellite away from extreme environmental factors. To activate payload: Put cockroaches in containers and seal two pressured boxes using epoxy 24 hours before launch. Set hobo to run at the designated time. Turn on all switches including camera button. Reset micro SD shield until yellow light blinks. Turn on both video cameras Seal box with aluminum Ready to fly again

  • I promise you, this class is harder than you think it is. Be prepared for all-nighters, because youll probably pull at least one. You will work a ridiculous amount of hours in preparation for the flight, but as soon as that balloon takes off, it will suddenly all be worth it. Also, TEST EVERYTHING. If you dont think something needs to be tested, test it anyway. Teamwork is the most important thing to a successful satellite. If you dont get along with someone on your team, suck it up and put the team on your back. For Madden. Message to next year
