ORIGIN AND EVOLUTION Bajaj Auto came into existence on

November 29, 1945 as M/s Bachraj Trading Corporation Private Limited

Founded by Jamnalal Bajaj Began selling imported two- and three-

wheeled vehicles in 1948 In 1959, it obtained license from the

Government of India to manufacture two- and three-wheelers.

Contd….. 1960, Bajaj Auto became a public

limited company. Since 1965,Rahul bajaj is the chairman

of Bajaj Auto Ltd Three manufacturing plants in India The demerger of Bajaj Auto Ltd into

three separate corporate entities—Bajaj Finserv Ltd (BFL), Bajaj Auto Ltd (BAL), and Bajaj Holdings and Investment Ltd (BHIL) on May 26, 2008.

ACHEIVEMENTS 1970 - 100,000th vehicle. 1971 - three-wheeler goods carrier is

introduced. 1975 - BAL & Maharashtra Scooters Ltd. joint

venture. 1977 - Rear Engine Auto rickshaw is introduced and

sales of 100,000 vehicles in a single financial year. 1986 - 500,000 vehicles produced and sold in a

single financial year. 1995 - Bajaj Auto is 50 year old. Ten millionth

vehicle sold so far. One million vehicles were produced and sold in this year.

1980 – Chetak Became the most successful scooter model in India. 2001 – Due to stringent environmental policies and falling market numbers, Chetak 2 Stroke was discontinued

1972 – Bajaj Chetak 145cc 2 stroke was introduced to replace discontinued Vespa 150cc model

2002 – a new improved 4 Stroke Chetak was introduced to capture a new growing market conscious of fuel mileage2009 – Product failed miserably due to low sales and was discontinued

1990 – Bajaj continued to a major market holder for mopeds with highly successfully M-80 2Stroke2001 – 2 Stroke M-80 ceased production due to lowering demand and rising petrol prices

2002 – With growing environmental constraints, it went through upgrade (as in Chetak) and was re launched as 4 Stroke to a fuel mileage focusing market2006 – the last of M-80 4 Stroke was sold and ceased production with changing market trends

Bajaj Auto says its $2,500 car, which it is building with Renault and Nissan Motor, will aim at a fuel-efficiency of 30 km/litre.

The car is scheduled to be launched in 2012
