Library On April 26, Digital Services Librarian Jessica Bastian and Copyright Compliance Coordinator Markie Castle will attend a train-the-trainer event at Heartland Community College regarding the Open Textbook Network (OTN). The Consortium of Academic and Research Libraries in Illinois (CARLI) became a member of OTN this year and is providing training for ICC staff on the adoption of open textbooks. This is an exciting opportunity for staff to gain knowledge on Open Educational Resources (OER) to further support faculty in the selection and adoption of OERs. During the month of March, One Book, One College held a faculty presentation by faculty member Aaron James entitled, “Happiness, Contemplation and Justice” and the “Joy of Giving Back” volunteer fair at the East Peoria Campus. The volunteer fair engaged 20 community service organizations. Students learned about the organizations as well as their volunteer requirements and needs as part of the fair.

One Book, One College events in April include events to alleviate student stress during this busy time of the semester, such as “The Joy of Coloring” and a “Yoga Anywhere” presentation by Liz Burns.

Banwart Academic Support Center Weekly review sessions for English Language Learners enrolled in RNRS 120 have been meeting every Wednesday from 11 am to noon since the beginning of March. Students who attend each week enter their names into a drawing for a $50 Bookstore gift card that will be awarded the week before finals. As of April 6, 112 students have enrolled in the Math Bridge program throughout the 2017-2018 academic year. A total of 116 students enrolled in the program during the 2016-2017 academic year. Student Success Series workshops concluded this week for the spring semester. A total of 78 students attended the workshops this semester, and several students attended all three workshops in the series. PDI is providing coordination and registration services for the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) psychomotor exams on Saturday, April 21. These exams cover patient assessment – trauma, dynamic and static cardiology, verbal management of all aspects of an out-of-hospital call, as well as management and team leadership, during a simulated patient encounter. PDI is collaborating with the Tenth Judicial Circuit to develop a course for parents who are divorcing or who are no longer together and are experiencing a high level of conflict that affects their parenting and their children. The course will focus on developing healthy habits in the areas of communication and conflict resolution techniques. We expect the first eight-week session to begin in October 2018. The course will be 16 hours in length, with eight couples in attendance each session. We plan to offer three sessions per year. Community Education College for Kids enrollment is strong for summer 2018. At this time, we have 584 duplicated enrollments for June and 403 for July. Student Services Message Center Great news! We launched Message Center in late March for the first time. Message Center allows ICC to send push notifications through the mobile application and through eServices. This first announcement was sent to more than 11,000 students (currently enrolled and applicants with summer and fall intended start terms) letting them know about the ICC Foundation Scholarship application deadline. This is an option with no cost to the student and is less invasive than text messaging when push notifications are sent to a mobile phone. For students without the mobile application, the messages are in a prominent location on the eServices home page. Directly from the message, students can select “APPLY NOW”, and it will take them out to the scholarship application where they can login and begin completing the application for the upcoming year. Academic Advising Three ICC Advisors (Christin Ferrall, Elizabeth Kellington, and Mindi Miller) will be presenting at the ILACADA Conference on May 4, at the Spoon River Outreach Center, Macomb IL.

Men’s Basketball Men’s Basketball finished the season 5th in the conference and region. They lost in the first round of the playoffs to Lincoln College and finished the season with a 10-18 record. Ian Milsteadt was named All Conference and All Region 1st team. Coach Tony Wysinger earned his 300th career college win during the season. Softball The 1998 softball team was inducted into the Greater Peoria Hall of Fame on April 7. Facilities Services has been working on a few remodeling projects this past month. The first project is the addition of two offices in upper Arbor for the new Associate VP and Manager of Workforce. The construction of these offices is complete and part of the furniture order is in, with the remainder of the furniture being delivered soon. We are also working on the consolidation of Tech Services. This project should be complete by the first week of June. Additionally, we are working on two other remodels: Room L422 (4th floor conference room), which will be divided into two functional conference rooms and Rooms 234-235 (old math lab) that will be remolded and utilized as the new Strategic Planning meeting room. Both projects are slated for completion in mid-June.

Technology Enterprise Systems: PeopleSoft Campus Solutions 9.2 and PeopleSoft Finance 9.2 upgrade project On March 5, 2017, Enterprise Systems began a year-long project to upgrade two of the College’s main information systems: PeopleSoft Campus Solutions (student information system) and PeopleSoft Finance and Supply Chain Management (finance and purchasing system). In addition to these application upgrades, we will also be upgrading the PeopleTools environment to version 8.56. PeopleTools is the underlying framework that unifies the application systems and provides the security, reporting, development, and data integration capabilities for PeopleSoft. The main driver for this effort is to remain in compliance with Oracle’s support requirements. Oracle will expire the main support for our current version of PeopleSoft Campus Solutions in December of 2019. These upgrades are comprehensive and impact data and processes used by all areas of the College. Upgrades of this magnitude require careful planning and multiple rounds of testing before the new version can be put into production. We have secured the consulting services of Sierra- Cedar Consulting Remote Upgrade Lab to assist with the technical upgrade aspects of the project. We have also contracted with Highstreet Consulting to lend assistance on an as needed basis, for the Finance application upgrade. Because the impact is significant to many areas of the College, the target for go-live is the weekend starting Friday, March 8, 2019. This is the weekend that leads into spring break 2019 and will allow the project team to “go-live” with the least amount of impact to students, faculty, and staff. It is also a time of year that is off cycle for major Finance system operations such as calendar year end and annual Audit. This upgrade will add some additional years of life to the aging PeopleSoft platform that is nearing 20 years of deployment at ICC. It will provide the time needed to begin to plan for future systems that will be needed to support the Human Resources, Finance, and Student Information System needs of ICC. Network Operations: ICC’s Network Operations is reaching the final stages of deploying Office 365 campus-wide. Currently, we have converted 76% of the 1,770 ICC email accounts. What this means to the faculty and staff at ICC is that users will experience Microsoft’s new, robust, online email and applications. This will bring everything from large mailbox quotas to conferencing over the new Skype for Business application. Document sharing issues will be addressed as Office 365 offers both SharePoint and OneDrive services for storing and sharing large or confidential files. With SharePoint and OneDrive, files can be stored, sorted, and searched with ease. More information, on new apps and how they can be used, will be available after the initial conversion of all ICC’s email boxes.

Benefits Benefits is working with Consociate and UnityPoint to customize a tele-medicine solution for use by ICC employees (both on and off the health plan). The Summary Plan Document (SPD) is being reviewed by the Insurance Committee in preparation for a final draft. This update will ensure the language is compliant with current regulations. With the help of our partners at Cottingham and Butler and Consociate, we are analyzing the current claim costs to identify trends and possible mitigation strategies. We are also testing the stop loss market to obtain the most cost effective stop loss coverage for the health plan. Search for Chief Grants Development Officer and James K. Polk Diverse Faculty Fellow

Our search has continued for a Chief Grants Officer since the departure of Dr. Herbert DaCosta in October 2017. The position was re-advertised to secure a broader pool of candidates. We are now in the position to conduct interviews and hope to have a candidate selected and ready to start by mid or late May. Also, we have recently advertised to fill the James K. Polk Diverse Faculty Fellow position previously held by Dr. Kamara Taylor. The position is open to all academic disciplines offered by ICC. All academic deans are interested in having a fellow, but we only have one position, so selection will depend on the candidate best qualified for this opportunity. This is a grow-your-own diverse faculty initiative.

Educational Foundation The Illinois Central College Educational Foundation hosted a 50th Anniversary Gala Dinner and Auction on Saturday, April 7. The black-tie optional event was appropriately themed “Past Success Drives the Future.” The evening was a celebration of all the College has accomplished for our students and the community in these past 50 years. It also paved the way as we embark on the journey into the next 50 years and beyond at ICC. Guests enjoyed an evening filled with wonderful food, auctions and a time of celebration with ICC’s many community partners. While we are still in the process of calculating the final amount, our estimates show that at least $100,000 was raised for the Foundation’s Excellence Fund. Thank you to all those who supported this great event! The ICC Educational Foundation received a total of 1,777 online scholarship applications by the April 1st deadline. Eighty-six individuals have volunteered to serve on this year’s scholarship selection committee! Each group will read, evaluate, and rate approximately 100-150 applications. Groups will come together beginning May 7 through May 17 to make final recipient selections. Students will be notified if they are chosen as a 2018-2019 scholarship recipient now through July 15. If a student missed this year’s scholarship application deadline, no worries. Remaining scholarships will be posed July 15 on icc.edu for additional applicants. The ICC Educational Foundation is proud to announce a new annual scholarship in support of the ICC students! The Iliff Brothers Scholarship was established by Dr. Buzz and Kris Iliff. Dr. Buzz and Kris established this scholarship because three out of their four sons went to ICC and participated in the Ag Judging program. This award is intended to assist a student in need, who is a member of the Ag Judging team. The Iliff’s believe their three sons received a great education at ICC. It is their desire to help a student achieve success with their schooling and in Ag Judging. Buzz and Kris believe the Ag Judging team at ICC shaped their sons into well-
