In the UK, household income is the most significant factor
determining pupil achievement.
Teach First is changing this.
What is the problem?

*Students are eligible for Free School Meals if their parents claim certain benefits or have an annual income of less than £16,040. FSM is only a proxy for low-income as the data for only includes students who claim their entitlement.

What is the solution?

Research has shown that excellent teaching and leadership in
schools can completely change this correlation….
Teach First’s birth in 2002
In September 2001 a McKinsey pro-bono study looked into how businesses could help improve secondary education in London and found that great teachers could raise pupils’ results by at least 40%
‘Teach for London’ was one of the recommended interventions
One of the consultants on the McKinsey Project took a sabbatical to write a business plan and went on to found Teach First in 2002
