First, we need to log in to our Destiny accounts. Click login at the top right of your screen. Your
username and password will be the same as your computer login information.
This is the Basic view of the Library Search. Here you may search for books by keyword, title, author, subject, or
series. You can also narrow your search by location, format, award winners, and reading programs.
You can further narrow your search by clicking on the Power or Visual tabs.
Include or exclude words for better results
Looking for an ebook, video, music, etc.? Change the material type to narrow your results.
You can also change location, publication year, award winner, and reading programs to narrow your search.
To narrow your search using the Power tab:
You can also search by category, by clicking on the Visual tab.
Now that we have seen various ways to search, let’s practice. We will use Shakespeare as an
example. Type “Shakespeare” in the search box and hit Enter.
Your results will look something like this. If you’ll notice, our search resulted in 54 titles. These titles may be works by
Shakespeare, about Shakespeare, or works that contain a reference to Shakespeare. We need to narrow our search.
Now, let’s go back and again type “Shakespeare” into the search box. However, instead of searching by Keyword,
let’s search by Author.
This narrrows our results from 54 to 32.
Go back and refine your search
Sort by author, title, date, etc.
Click here for details of book

Save to List
Your narrowed results page will look like this:
Now you can:
Go to next search result
Find similar results

If you want to save the title for future use, click Add to this List. To see your list, click In this List.
Your list will look similar to this:
One very useful function of the Libray Catalog is its ability to create a citation page. When you are looking at My List, you will notice that there is an option at the
bottom of the page to create a Citation or Bibliography list.
The first list is a Citation List. You will notice that this list only cites hardcopy resources. Also, before choosing to
use anything from this list, you should make sure that it is in the form that your teacher requires.
The next list is a Bibliography. This list cites all of the resources on your list. Again, before choosing to use this list, you should check to see that it meets your teacher’s
requirements.
If you ever need to return to the results of a previous search, click My Searches on the Basic View page.
This will pull a record of all previous searches. You can select any of the searches to return to
its results.
If you will notice, on the top of every search screen, there is a Top 10 link. Click this link to display the Top 10 titles
to check out.
Your results will look something like this:
The final tab on the left side of your screen is the Resource List tab. Click this tab. Here you can view any lists you have saved in My Lists or view Public
Lists.
If you ever get lost and need help, look for the How do I… link on each page. This will give you tips for
the page you are currently using.
When logged in to Destiny, you may also see your status (books you may have checked out)
by clicking on the My Info tab.
If someone has recommended that you read a particular book, it will be listed
here.

Searches in Destiny Quest follow the same rules as searches in the Library Catalog. A search for Shakespeare
in Destiny Quest pulls the same results as the Library Catalog search. Only the display is different. You can
narrow your search with the options on the left.
At any time, you may exit Destiny Quest and return to the Library Catalog by clicking Exit Destiny Quest in the
top right corner of the screen.
This concludes the Libray Catalog/Destiny Quest tutorial.
