Agro meets Chemistry

TCI Visit

• World class agro & chemical industry

• Biotechnology & green chemistry

• A feedstock position

• Local biomasss & imports

• Best in class infrastructure

Biobased Delta Eco-system

• An available market (ARRR cluster)

• Circular Economy

• A successful Triple helix

Shared view point for Development

• Netherlands: 20% biobased feedstock and 10 % circular feedstock (recycle) in 2030 in the Dutch chemical industry (VNCI- Top sector Chemical Industry)

• Lessons learned: need operation of scale, smart integration of all streams andoptimum product mix with cross-sectorial, cross-market approach

• Just replacement of fossil feedstock by biobased and circular feedstock is notattractive. There needs to be a growth agenda connected to the transition

• Growth agenda is typically tied to the societal mega-trends: ageing population, urbanisation, low carbon economy, new ways of mobility

• Selected topic today: Cluster aspects within framework of growth & business

Commission selects 6 "model demonstrator regions" to lead the way toward a

sustainable chemical industry . The selected regions are Andalusia (Spain),

Groningen-Drenthe (The Netherlands), Kosice (Slovakia), Scotland (United Kingdom),

South and Eastern Ireland, and Wallonia (Belgium).

The European Sustainable Chemicals Support Service kicked off in June its first

meeting

Biobased Delta serves as best practice for sustainable chemical industry

Biobased Delta profile is listed on the Bioeconomy Observatory in 2013

Biobased Delta is member of European Cluster Collaboration Platform

Via 3BI BBD is member of European Strategic Cluster Partnerships

Agro meets ChemistryCompanies in the Lead !

Critical points

• Triple helix blessing or burden ?

• How do we measure effectiveness of clusters ?

• Difficulties with international collaboration(s)

• How do we do joint acquisition with the cluster partners ?
