Test Lab AMCA 210 Chamber & AMCA 260 Induced Flow Testing

CF can provide accurate and repeatable airow, pressure andpower data or ans o all types by perorming an airlowmeasurement test per AMCA standards 210 and 260 using oneo three chambers and our AMCA 260 induced ow box locatedin our test lab. wo o the chambers can accommodate airowrates up to 65,000 cubic eet per minute and static pressures upto 10 inches o water while the third high pressure chamber canhandle airow rates up to 10,000 cubic eet per minute and staticpressures up to 80 inches o water. Te AMCA 260 box is capableo testing ans with inlet diameters o 50 inches or smaller.

Manuacturing Plant - AMCA 210 Duct Testing

When a an exceeds the size limitations o our chambers, largescale duct testing can be conducted at one o our manuacturingplants. CF can provide accurate and repeatable results byperorming airow measurement testing per AMCA standard210 or ans o virtually any size, airow rate, static pressureand horsepower. Tis method o testing is very space consumingand requires a very long duct section to be attached to the an.

Manuacturing Plant - Modied AMCA 203 Guidelines

Another option or determining the airow perormance oans that are too large or our chambers is to perorm an airow

measurement test using guidelines rom AMCA publication203 at one o our manuacturing plants. For this particular testans are installed with ductwork on the outlet and either a belor duct on the inlet. Tis results in accurate and repeatable testingand generally requires less space than an AMCA 210 duct test.

Note: TCFs test lab, the Brookings, SD manuacturing plant and all testingpersonnel are NQA certifed or the air perormance testing o ans used inthe nuclear power generation industry.

    Field Testing - AMCA 203 & 803

When installed ans are required to be tested in the eld, they

are tested in accordance with the AMCA 203 or 803 testingguidelines. AMCA 203 covers the eld testing o all ans ingeneral, whereas AMCA 803 covers the eld testing o industriaprocess ans or the power generation industry. When testingany an in the eld, the overall system must be careully takeninto consideration to accurately determine where the measurements will be taken and i there are any system elementsthat may negatively aect the an perormance. Tis testing canlead to huge returns by optimizing existing systems.

    Sound Performance Testing

    Vibration Testing

CF has added a 73,000 3, AMCA accredited reverberant sound

room to its test lab or the purpose o conducting soundperormance tests per AMCA standard 300. Tis room isqualied or both broadband and pure tone sound measurementand used or developing an sound level ratings, trouble-shooting noise issues and perorming contract testing.

For ans that are not able to be tested in our lab, CF oers amodied AMCA 300 test guideline that can be perormed atany o our manuacturing plants. Tis testing method utilizesprinciples rom the standard that can be used outside o areverberant sound room.

I the an must be tested in the eld, CF can perorm anon-site sound survey. Principles rom AMCA 300 can beapplied, but special considerations must be made to accountor background noise, motor and drive noise and roomgeometry and construction.

Note: TCFs test lab, the Brookings, SD manuacturing plant and all testingpersonnel are NQA certifed or the sound perormance testing o ansused in the nuclear power generation industry.

Standard balance tests are perormed on all complete anassemblies size permitting. Tis ensures that there are nonoticeable mechanical deects such as rubbing, bearing noiseor excessive bearing heat and the vibration levels ltered intothe running speed are reported. CF can also provide

vibration reports that include the ltered and overall levels irequested. Customers oen require longer run tests to allowthe bearing temperatures to stabilize. In order to achieve thestabilized temperatures, CF will run the an or two hoursand record both the bearing temperatures and bearing

vibration levels every 15 minutes or as specied.

When speciications call or the detrimental resonantrequencies in a an assembly to be identied, CF can perorma coast down test. Coast down testing involves running thean up to the desired speed and then decelerating slowly. Byrecording the vibration levels until the an comes to a stop, the detrimental resonant requencies can be identied. Inaddition to these standard tests, CF is able to test to any

vibration specication that a customer requires.

    Seismic Testing

For geographical locations susceptible to earthquakes

it is critical to have equipment that is capable ooperating ater a seismic event. he CaliorniaOfce o Statewide Health Planning & Development(OSHPD) has established a program that requiresall equipment used in any health care acility to bepre-approved prior to installation within the state oCaliornia. Te International Building Code (IBC)has also developed stringent building codes ormachinery that will be used in seismically activeareas. As a result, CF has invested in a shake tableto simulate earthquakes that meet both IBC and

OSHPD requirements. Te table is 10' x 10' and isable to shake both oor mounted and ceiling hungunits. Te maximum payload weight is 10,000 lbs.

    Bump Testing

I it is required to determine the natural requencieso a an rotor assembly and/or an structure, CFoers bump testing to identiy these requenciesBump testing can be perormed on a rotor assemblysuspended in air or on a structure mounted to theoor and involves placing accelerometers in strategiclocations on the rotor assembly and/or an structure

Once the accelerometers are afxed to the unit, it is

impacted with a mallet and the response is measuredusing diagnostic equipment to determine the naturarequencies present in the unit.

Note: All custom Clarage impellers are bump tested.

    Operational Modal Testing

    Jet Fan Thrust Testing

When troubleshooting an vibration issues, it is

helpul to know the dominant mode shapes that arebeing excited. A useul tool or doing this is OperationDelection Shape (ODS) testing. In this method, vibration readings are taken o the an usingaccelerometers while it is running. Tese levelscan then be imported into a 3-D model o the an.

By plugging in the actual vibration levels rom thean, it is possible to animate the vibration and seethe mode shape that is being excited. Tis inormationis eective in determining i the vibration will cause

early ailures and reduce the lie o the an assembly.

When using jet ans in tunnel ventilation applications,it is critical to ensure that they are capable o quicklyventilating a tunnel in an emergency situation. Teseans are specied by the amount o thrust they producerather than a typical ow vs. pressure specication.CF is able to test to AMCA standard 250 and ISOstandard 13350, which outline the method or testingjet tunnel ans.

In these tests, the an is mounted on a table that isree to move axially on linear bearings. A stationarymounted thrust gauge is then attached to the tableto measure the thrust generated by the an while itis running. CF has the capability to perorm jet anthrust testing both at our test lab and our manuacturingplant in Pulaski, N.

    Overspeed Testing

    High Temperature Testing

o ensure our customers that a an will saely operateat the speed that they have specied, CF has investedin overspeed chambers or our test lab and manuac-turing plants. Overspeed testing allows us to run a anat an increased speed or a given amount o time andprove that it will withstand the customers specicapplication.

Te overspeed chamber in our test lab is capable ohandling an wheels up to 58 inches diameter. For

large wheel sizes, the overspeed chamber at ourmanuacturing plants can accommodate wheeldiameters up to 118 inches.

Certain applications require the ans to either besubmerged in high temperature air or handle hightemperature air in the airstream. Tat is why CFhas developed a method o testing the survivabilityo ans up to 900F (482C) at our Pulaski, Nmanuacturing plant.

Te test an is installed in a closed loop system that

recirculates the heated air through the an. Tis ensuresthat the mechanical design o the an is able to standup to the hot environment. CFs customers can becertain that when the an is installed in a hightemperature application, it is ready to do the job.

    Strain Gauge Testing

    UL 705 Safety Testing

In many high speed applications, customers requirestrain gauge testing to ensure their an can toleratethe application in which it is being used. Tis testinvolves utilizing a series o strain gauges that areapplied in the largest stress concentration areas. Byrunning the an and measuring the strain, we candetermine i there is any deormation in a an wheelduring operation.

Strain gauge testing is a specialized procedure that

requires careul attention to detail by a skilled andexperienced technician. CF is able to perorm straingauge testing at both our test lab and our manuacturingplant in Pulaski, N.

For many commercial applications, UL 705 certicationis required to ensure that the motor in a power rooventilator will withstand voltage uctuations, over-heating and a variety o other abnormal circumstances. Our test lab has been accredited by UL to perormthese tests on power roo ventilators up to 15 HPusing a 60 Hz power source at any voltage between85V and 635V.

Te saety testing includes motor winding temperaturerise tests at multiple voltages, start/stop testing, hal-wave endurance testing (or motors supplied withsolid state speed controllers), dielectric testing andrain testing.
