Taylor Swift.Brand Identity..

Taylor Swift started off as an average country singer in her early teenage years, but soon expanded to become the massive pop star that she is today. Taylor’s first album started off when she was in freshman year of high school and as she grew she progressed with several different album producers to go from her county styled music to her new albums today. The majority of her songs speak romantic relationships and also touches on her personal struggles in high school. The star has gone from your every day country singer to a pop sensation, the differences between all her albums is that she always brings something new and exciting, representing the way she has expanded her brand identity.

Album Artwork..Here are the first few albums Taylor Swift ever did, as you can

see she was very young and in her early teens and you can clearly see the country girl pop star image swift was portraying.

The font style is the exactly same in her early albums and the way she looked in terms of her hair and makeup is almost

identical . The lighting on the album artwork is very light, this could be representation of sunshine in the country or out in the open. Taylor had a very unique style and she played it very well

from her appearance to the way she performed and came across to her fans – considering she was very young swift had a

lot of potential.

As you can see form her recent albums swift expanded from the young, country girl singer she once was, into the pop artist she is today. From the album red Taylor clearly wanted to change her image of being this young country singer and wanted to become more successful and gain a

larger audience but by taking her previous fans with her as her music is still the same in terms of relationships and

them being based on things that perhaps happen to people in every day situations. Her appearance has

changed recently in terms of her hair, clothes and makeup but the way she holds herself. You can clearly see how Taylor has matured her music over the last few albums

very discreetly but very successfully.

Merchandise..Quite a lot of merchandise for Taylor Swift is based around her new songs/album. As you can see these t-shirts are quite similar to each other in terms of what is on them e.g., all the fonts are the same as her newest album 1989 and also the website. Another thing that a few t-shirts have in common is the album artwork. Emphasising Taylor’s name and also a list of her world tours, which then go on to emphasis her image and also how famous and big Taylor is as a singer.

As Taylor has changed her image throughout the years, so has her merchandise. As you saw on the slide before the merchandise was very different to her old stuff. Taylor’s merchandise changed as her albums and songs changed. However, the only things that stayed the same was the font being the same as the album artwork, and also emphasising her look. Taylor’s older image also seemed to make more of a variety of different merchandise, however now her merchandise only seems to be t-shirts and hoodies, etc..

Throughout Taylors career you can clearly see a rapid change in not only her music and appearance but also her performance and concerts. Just by looking at these pictures you can see a change in the majority of important things needed at a concert. Taylor started off with a very average type of concert, not very many big lights nor props. The first three albums that Taylor performed were all very similar, giving off the ‘cowgirl’ and ‘country girl’ look with just Taylor, a microphone and also her famous guitar.

As you can see Taylors change in performance was very clear. The last two albums that Taylor has produced is where the big change in performance skills have been. Her up to date concerts have had a big change in songs (lyrics) props, costumes, backing dancers and especially the lighting. Taylor very rarely uses her guitar in many concerts anymore which was a big thing in her older performances. This was another big change for Taylor as well as the bigger performance that she gives off today. Taylor only ever use to stand by her microphone with her guitar and sing, however in her recent concerts Taylor puts on a bigger and more successful performance using different props and big dance moves. Most say Taylor has progressed in confidence as she has got older which is where the rapid change has come from.

Overall, you can clearly see a big change in Taylor’s personality and also her music. By changing from a popular country girl to a big pop artist she has been extremely successful in her change process. Although Taylor has changed her image the good thing about her change is that she hasn’t lost her fans throughout.

Taylor as well as Miley Cyrus is known to have one of the biggest changes in personality in the whole of pop history. The big change that Taylor took was a risk that she knew she was taking, but successfully made it through and is now the UK’s biggest and most successful artist going, with still more potential.
