    TAX IS

THEFT!and what to do about it.

    WHAT TO DO ABOUT IT

First of all, keep what you earn. The Fund cant pay their goons ifthey cant collect and remember, its your money, not theirs.

Second, remember that there are40,000,000 successful tax resistersin the U.S. alone, and around100,000,000 tax avoiders and evad-ers; yes, nearly everyone. And thepercentage is even higher in othercountries.

Third, you may learn an alreadyexisting technology of keeping notonly your money free, but stayingfree of regulations, censorship, infla-tion, discrimination, and controls

whats yours by right, a technologycalled Counter-Economics. Coursesare given in it and books publishedabout it. Well put you in touch.

Fourth, you can learn the simpletechniques of getting off the tax rollsif youre on, and staying off if yourenot. Once the real Fund doesntknow you exist, you are immune toall but betrayal by an intimate.

Fifth, and not last by any means, you may join with others who havelearned the consistent methods offighting and beating the Fund and

would-be Funds. Do anti-tax, pro-free-market, anti-socialist Leftistssound intriguing to you? Maybe thatis what you always thought you wereif you only thought it possible?

Well, it is, we are, and you cannow contact us. Welcome, ally!

This brochure was originally written and published forLL by the late Samuel Edward Konkin III. This new

edition has been minimally edited by Wally Conger.

    TAX IS THEFT!

Sure feels like it close to April 15,right? But of course that slogan isust an exaggeration. After all, we

must pay our taxes! Its sort of aduty, no? Look, suppose no one paidtheir taxes, where would streets andsewers and social security and postoffices come from? Not to mentionpolice and marines and missiles andspace shots? No doubt about it, tax-ation is necessary, so even if it istheft...

Think about that for a second even if it is theft...? Theft is univer-sally accepted to be an immoral act.Assuming all the aforementionedservices are moral and desirable(and that is hotly debated about allof them), how can moral ends beachieved only through immoralmeans?

Well, surely, nothing right canbe only done wrongly; there is a right

way and a wrong way of doing any-thing, you might say. But thenthere must be a right way of financ-ing those necessary (moral) services.

That is, taxation is not necessary, not if it is immoral.

OK, but even if we all hate payingtaxes, that does not make it wrong. It is right or wrong, no matter what

we feel about it. It is theft, or not, nomatter what our feelings about it atthe moment. So consider this.

A man sends you a letter saying your neighbors are contributing tohis fund. This fund performs many

good acts, he claims, and perhaps helists a few. Please send in your con-

tribution, and get it in by the middleof the month. To assist you in decid-ing your contribution, which shouldbe based on your income (or maybehow much you buy, or how much

your house is worth, or somethingelse, or some combination), a handytable for easy calculation is provided.

Nothing wrong here. Junk mail, perhaps; a trifle irritating. Maybe

you even agree with most of theservices the Fund finances, and no-body would disagree with all ofthem. But say you choose either toignore the letter or send less than

your assigned quota. He writesagain, expressing his regret at youromission. He mentions that he hasmeans to get your fair share after all, everybody else paid theirshare, except for a few scoundrels.

Sounds like a threat there, and itdoes not look like this guy is runninga very benevolent fund. Maybe youeven send him back a letter tellinghim to stop bothering you or you willbe forced to take legal action.

Now he sends more threateningletters, and finally a few of hisfriends drop by to impress upon

you the meaning of your not cough-ing up. At this time you decide it istime for help. You look around for anagency to give you protection abodyguard, maybe. But there is onlyone in town, and those goons out-side are already working for it. As

you try to stop them from seizing your furniture (or bank account or whatever) they pull their guns on you. You say, You are acting likethieves!

No, they answer, you are thecrook. You are withholding yourshare for the Fund.

But I never agreed to your fund.Let us go to a judge and let himdecide whether I owe anything.

Fine, they say (and is that asmile curling their lips?). Come tothe Fund office.

Well, you reply reasonably, notyour judge, or even mine, to be fair.Lets try to agree on an impartialone.

But, they laugh, the Fund doesnot allow any other judges. Dont

worry, though; if you paid more thanyour quota, why, youll get the restback.

But I do not want to pay any-thing, you wail.

They brandish their guns. This is nothing but a hold-up.

    Youre thieves!And they are.

There are a lot more argumentswhich are brought up at this point. Some samples:

    1. Your friends got together andvoted to steal from you, and asked

you to vote, too. You had yourchance, right?

    2. The Fund is limited, and onlysteals some of your property. It paysits goons to fight the Bad Fundacross the river, which would takeeven more of your property. Ocourse, you could not hire your ownbodyguards at what you and theyagree on. Why not? Well, they cantbe trusted but the Fund can!

    3. Widows and orphans wouldstarve if the Fund did not feed them.

    And many more.
