DIRECTOR’S MESSAGE

Dr. Vandana Sonwaney Director, SIOM

Mankind is currently in an era of alarming strain on resources and deeply disturbing impact on the environment. In a rapidly developing nation like India, it is very disquieting to know that almost 80% of industrial waste is dumped in the holy river of Ganges. It is important that each and every single one of us understand that we have an obligation towards the world, to be responsible citizens. This may seem a difficult task, for sometimes as businessmen and women, we are pruned to believe that profits are what truly matters. It is highly imperative that we realize, in the long run, a men-tality of adhering to sustainable processes in the work environment and otherwise will lead to a happier and more fulfilling life for ourselves and the children of tomorrow. To offset the increasing scarcity of non-renewable resources and to promote sustainable development, capital accu-mulation and technological changes are essential. The development and adoption of new technologies allow for improvement in resource availabil-ity and the abatement of harmful effects on the environment. With this thought in mind, SIOM has organized Tattv 2014, on the theme of ‘Sustainable Business Growth – Myth or Math’. Tattv 2014 is aimed towards addressing sustainable practices in a corporate environment, how each individual can pitch in to make the world a better place for the people of tomorrow. Tattv has been highly successful in the past years in promot-ing industry-academia affiliation, to work on issues of direct relevance to the industry. Symbiosis Institute of Operations Management (SIOM) is a unique compe-tency-building institute. With its innovative curriculum and teaching meth-odologies, we mould the managers of tomorrow to be more socially, envi-ronmentally and culturally responsible. We make them realize early on, that every action has long standing effects on the world. Additionally, SIOM guides students to chart out their own course in life, and we give them all the tools necessary to be successful in their future. Here, we strongly be-lieve in the philosophy ‘If you light a lamp for someone else, it will also brighten your own path’. We encourage our students to spread their knowledge, creativity and goodness of heart wherever their lives take them.

ABOUT SIOM : SIOM is born out of the conviction that engineers, if forged, chis-elled and nurtured properly in an exclusive B-School environment, would emerge as outstanding techno business leaders. SIOM, ex-clusively for Engineers, is India’s only Institute dedicated to Operations Management, constituted with the understanding that industry hires talent with a vision for world class excellence, atop the current competitive markets. The entire SIOM fraternity is highly committed to its vision of Empowering and leading Opera-tions Excellence. The innovative curriculum at SIOM challenges traditional thinking and introduces the students to multiple business perspectives. Through constant inputs from the Industry, the foundation required to be an effective Techno-Business Manager and leader is firmly built. The evolving curriculum is well supported by Data Analytics using Excel, SPSS, Minitab and other statistical tools and tech-niques. Exposure to SAP Modules through the University Alliance Programme ensures that the professional technocrats are well aligned to meet the industry requirements. Further, the entire course is designed to align itself with APICS and other important certifications of this niche domain. SIOM has been awarded the title of “Institute with Best In-dustry Related Curriculum in Operations Management‟ by the Dewang Mehta B-School Awards (2009), Dainik Bhaskar B-School Awards (2010), Star News B-School Awards (2011), ABP news National School awards (2012) , ET Now Awards (2013), Educational Excellence Award at the Annual CPO Forum India Awards (2014) and the Dewang Mehta Award again for the ‘Business School with Best Academic Input in Operations & Manufacturing’ (2014).
