Taste of Waterville Returns for the 27th Year

1

By Shawn Michaud, Chairperson Taste of Waterville

Mark your calendars for a great day of fun on Wednesday, August 7th as the 27th Annual Taste of Waterville brings thousands of families and friends to downtown Waterville. Mid-Maine Chamber of Commerce, along with the support of many central Maine businesses, will once again provide an afternoon and evening of diverse local cuisine, live entertainment and beer & wine gardens.

We are excited about some changes to the event this year, including Mid-Maine Chamber of Commerce partnering with several area nonprofits that are finalizing plans for new family-friendly activities that will be offered throughout the day. Special community events can be found on our Web site at www.tasteofwaterville.com.

Bite Booths will start the day off in the Concourse at 11:00 a.m. As the daytime temperatures cool down, the energy level will heat up as Main St. prepares for

area restaurants to serve fabulous food under the stars beginning at 5 p.m. along with live music by Downeast Brass and Meryia Michaud.

NEW this year! Enjoy your food and these great sounds in the Luxury Lounge, a new seating area on Main St. where you may enjoy your food while sipping on adult beverages. Are you a Red Sox fan? Plan to be on Main Street early as we are partnering with the Alfond Youth Center and the Boston Red Sox! A parade of vehicles will carry former Red Sox players, including World Series Champion Mike Timlin, down Main Street and into Castonguay Square where players

will sign FREE autographs and be available for fan pictures.

If you have a strong appetite and a competitive edge, be sure to sign up for Amici’s Meatball Eating Contest or Cancun’s Wing Eating Contest. The Outdoor Music Showcase & Beer Garden located in The Concourse will feature some of central Maine’s premier bands from 5:00 to 11:00 p.m. This year’s talent includes Michael Reny on piano; sing along to some great tunes! Maine’s favorite Elvis impersonator is also included in this year’s lineup and we are excited to announce the headliner will be Six Dog Sinner.

Mid-Maine Chamber of Commerce is excited about the changes taking place this year, and we encourage you to visit our new Web site at www.tasteofwaterville.com or on Facebook at www.facebook.com/tasteofwaterville/ for all the details. We look forward to seeing all of you August 7th for what is sure to be another great day and night of fun!

Kennebec Federal Savings (KFS) has seen a lot of changes in Waterville and in banking since it opened for business in 1936 in the Council Chambers at Waterville City Hall. Yet, one thing remains the same–its mission is to help you achieve your savings and homeownership goals.

The Down Payment Savings program at KFS is one tool you can use to reach your homeownership goals faster. This special savings program is tailored to your down payment goal and pays bonus interest and an additional $500 to use for closing costs. In addition, KFS is participating in a special program funded through the Federal Home Loan Bank of Boston. Launched this year, the Housing Our Workforce (HOW) program

provides funds for down payments on owner-occupied primary residences. To be eligible for HOW funds, borrower’s household earnings need to be between 80% and 120% percent of the area median income–generally in the range of $48,000 to $72,000 in Kennebec and Somerset counties.

Today, a lot of banking is done without visiting a bank at all. KFS’ online banking and mobile apps let customers bank anytime, anywhere. Customers can apply for a mortgage, review account transactions, transfer money, pay bills, make person-to-person payments, open accounts, monitor their credit score, and protect their debit card.

Yet, face-to-face service is still at the heart of a great banking experience. KFS employs 22 people in its two Waterville offices, with an average length of employment of 12 years, so you can count on working with experienced bankers when you call or visit a branch. KFS is honored to be recognized as a “Best Places

to Work in Maine” company 5 years in a row (2014–2018).

KFS is committed to helping the individuals and businesses in its community grow and prosper. Over the past 5 years, KFS has financed $121 million for home purchases, donated more than $82 thousand, and contributed over 1,500 hours of volunteer time to non-profit organizations.

KFS is the only bank whose head office is in Waterville. That means all decisions are made locally, accounts are serviced right here in Waterville, and customers can stop by anytime to talk face-to-face with any of the staff, including the bank’s president.

You can learn more about Kennebec Federal Savings by calling 873-5151 or stopping by a branch–11 Washington St, Waterville or 70 Main St, Waterville–or online at kfsavings.com.
