This sound effect is titled ‘AB_Ambience’ in my cut scene. It is a piece of ambient music that is designed to be played in the background. This sound effect will be played at the very start of the cut scene, while Frankie and Alex are talking about Alex’s lack of work on the ship. I decided that this sound effect should be created using MIDI entirely. It uses the VSTi effect ‘MinimogueVA’, I chose this effect because of its very odd, delayed feel, which sounds reminiscent of space. I layered the ‘MinimogueVA’ effect into another track using the effects ‘SQ8L’ and ‘Ambience’ to create a slight

beat in the ambient music. In my cut scene, I rendered this file out, then put it together and cross faded each loop into each other.

This sound effect is called ‘AB_Alarm’ in my audio cut scene. It is created entirely using MIDI items with the VSTi effect ‘ODsay’ and the VST effect ‘Ambience’. I used the ‘ODsay’ sound effect preset ‘Siren’ as it created a very urgent alarm sound. I added in the ‘Ambience’ VST effect to give the impression that the alarm sound will be travelling down a hallway. This sound effect will be used during the part where Alex and Frankie are notified about the aliens that have intruded onto the ship. In the audio cut sequence, I have looped this sound effect throughout most of the cut sequence, to add to the chaos and panic of the scene.

To create the sound effect of the aliens, I used an entirely MIDI created track which had two VSTi effects applied to it. The first effect I used was ‘MinimogueVA’. The reason I used this particular VSTi effect was because of the effect it created when it was recorded on lower octaves and notes, which sounded like it could be used to create the sound of a creature from another world. I then layered the effect ‘EXD-80’ over the top of this effect to make the alien voices sound more layered. I created three different patterns of voices, each with varying levels of anger. In my audio cut sequence. I will use each of these voices when Alex and Frankie come into contact with the aliens, and are close enough to hear them.

In my audio cut sequence, I used a sound that I created called ‘AB_Bang’. This sound was used when the aliens gain entry to the ship. The sound effect was created using MIDI effects, and used two different VSTi effects, ‘ODsay’ and ‘ace (Shattered Glass Audio)’. I used ODsay’s Metal Sustain preset to create a metallic sound, and then layered the second VSTi effect over the top to create an echo, which added to the sound effect as a whole. I only used this particular sound effect once, and never crossfaded or edited it past this point.

AB_Vent Crawl

This sound effect I named ‘AB_Vent Crawl’, and it was used towards the end of the audio cut sequence when Alex crawls through a vent to get to the armoury. I used two different effects to get the final sound effect, one VSTi and one VST. I first used ‘Or2v’ to create a metallic sound effect, then used the VST effect ‘Dub Delay - TAL’ to add a delay to the sound effect so it sounded muffled with a slight echo, like crawling through a vent.

AB_Hit Metal

I created a sound effect named ‘AB_Hit Metal’. This is the only sound effect that I have created that doesn’t use MIDI created tracks, but a sound effect that was edited to sound like something else. I took the ‘Plop’ sound effect that I used for the doors, then added 3 VST effects to the sound effect to make it into a more metallic sound. I used the VST effects ‘Ambience’, ‘Dub Delay - TAL’ and ‘KTGranulator’. I used ‘ambience’ to add an echoing sound, ‘Dub Delay – TAL’ to add a metallic effect, and ‘KTGranulator’ to make the sound more gritty. This sound effect was going to be used when Alex kicks off the vent in the monitor room to make his way to the armoury, however, I

tweaked this sound effect towards the end and created AB_Hit Metal_2, by changing the preset of ‘Dub Delay – TAL’ to ‘Stereo Metal’ and leaving it as that.
