Theme or focus of image & reasons for choice1. The focus on the first image was to capture some of the greenery of Salford quays to show

that it is not just a built up city and to show it has park areas .It was also done to make it appel to younger children to show them that there are playgrounds in Salford quays this will show it is a family place. I also wanted to show the different contrast of colours that are found with the quays and how they complement each other. I centred the photo on the slide because I felt that it was the most interesting item there .From the survey that I have done I found out that this photo is considered as being the least popular one out of the following images with 40% saying this one.

2. The theme of this image is the greenery within the quays it shows that it is not just a built up city is shows that there are parts that are peaceful and calm .It blends the colours of the tree levees in order to make the contrasted of the photo look good .I cropped this image because at the left hand side there was a street camera which I think does not make Salford quays look good if they need street cameras so I decided to edit it out .In the survey that I did 45% of all the people that did it said that this was the best photo that I have taken.

3. I took this image in order to get shots at some of the iconic buildings of Salford quays so I took a photo of this office space .It is a shiny buildings that easily recognisable and draws the eye .I

Page 7: Task 4 final images review work sheet

changed the sky background because I think that the weather on the day did not look as good since it was very cloudy and did not show the building in a good light 9.09% said that this was the best one.

4. The reason why I chose this image is because I think that it shows off the BBC buildings in a good light which then shows of Salford quays in a good light .I brighten up the image because I thought that it was too dark and that it should look brighter in order to show of the quays .I changed the colour of the sky to a brighter blue because it would look better like that.

5. This is an image of a couple looking off into the distance .I chose this one because I wanted to get the combine parts of the canal the buildings and the people around there it also has .It could also have a slight romance to the photo with a couple looking of into the .In post edit I tried to make a dawn effect but I don’t think that I did a great job at that so I personally think this is my least favourite out of my work .But 9.09 % out of the people that I asked said that this one was the best .

6. Personally I think that this is my strongest image 9.09% people agree with me on this. I think that I have framed this it the right way in order to get the imperial war museum and the Rank Hooves building as well as an open area with the people of Salford quays .These are two iconic buildings in the quays so it may draw in people .I believe that I have added a bright warm feel towards the quays in this image that has a homely environment for people who wish to visit.

7. The goal of this image was to show the people about the canal and the bridges and show them in a good light. I upped the brightness of the image to give it a warm style of photo and changed the colour of the sky to pretend that we have good weather round the Salford quays area. I focused on the bridge to show that the quays are split up by multiple bridges. I change the colour of the water in order to give it a clean looking water colour .Out of the survey that I did 9.09% people said that this was the best image out of all of my photography work .

8. The idea of this image was to show off media city and how it is built up from multiple buildings with a sky scraper like feel to it .This could be done to show that there are parts of Salford quays that are very compact so it gives of a city vibe .I also made sure that I got in a large amount f people in the image to show that it is a busy place but not too many so it looks cramped .This is a way to show that there is a lot going on in the media city .Out of a survey says that 9.09% of people think that this one is the best image

9. For this image I wanted to show off some of the transportation of Salford quays .For this image I wanted to show the tram station in a good light I made sure to show both sides of the platforms and I position it so the tram it station on the rule of thirds lines so by putting it here it should draw the eyes of the viewers. On the right hand side there is a large amount of people getting on the tram this was done to show that Salford quays was considered as being popular with people .

10. For this photo I wanted to show some of the accommodation that people will live in near the

Page 8: Task 4 final images review work sheet

Salford quays. I wanted to also show the canal because I have not got many photos of the water. I wanted to show off the canal in a good light which I think that I have done with this image. One thing that I didn’t think I did well at is the angle I wanted to try taking images at different angles to give different effects but with this photo I think it would look better if it was strength. One thing that I wanted to get was the water sports that sometimes happens in the canal but unfortunate on the days when I was there they was not on.

Audience feedback

I have set up a survey to get some feedback form my target audience. The first question that I asked was what do you think of the whole series? For this people answered 25% said it was perfect and 75 % said that It was good. This shows that everyone who has done the survey has a positive review .The next question that I asked was what is the best photo.50 % of the people that I asked said that the second photo was the best this shows that most people liked this one the best .The following images all got 8.33% of people chose them as the best 3,5,6,7,8,9 .The next question that I asked was which is your least favourite of my photos. The answers was as following 36.36% said 1,18.18% said 3 ,9.09% said 5,9.09% said 8 ,9.09% said 9 and finally 18.18% said 10 . Next I asked what they thought about the lighting .66.67% said it was perfect and 33.33% said it needed some adjustment this shows that the feedback was positive and that most people liked the lighting .I then asked if they think that I show Salford quays in a good light and 100% said that I did .Finally I asked what did they think able te angles of the photos . 33% said it was perfect ,50% said it was good and 16.67% said that they were ok . This shows me that most people liked the angel placement

techniques For photos number 6,7,8 and 9 I made sure that I had a resemble shutter speed so that there was no motion blur when the people in the landscape this will make the photo look a lot better.

I used the rule of thirds in a lot of my images to draw the eyes of my audience. I have done it on the first image to make the slide draw the eye of the audience. I used this same method in photo 5 and 9. With 5 I wanted people to look at the couple and with 9 I wanted people to focus on the trams.

There is some slight depth of field with the 2nd photo with the pole at the front slightly out of focus.

Strengths & suggested improvements1. I believe that the strengths of this one are the following .I believes that it is angled correctly so

people will get drawn to the slide. I also think that I have done a good job on the colouring of the trees and plants I believe that it makes it stand out. Some things that need improvement are the blending between the two colour contrast I think that I could of blended it better and there are some barrels in the background that I should of removed.

2. I think some good things about it are that it has a nice strong green colour to it that make to photo stand out. I also think that it is framed perfectly so that you can see all the trees properly as well as the canal in the background. One think that I wish that I had done was take the photo slightly before so that I could get the biker in the centre I think that might of made a better photo .

3. Things that I think that I have done well with on this image are the following. I think that it is centred correctly so you can see the entire building .The other thing that I like are that the sky looks like it has nice weather which may draw people to visit . One bad thing about is that it has too much refection that I could of got rid of in photo shop

4. I think that some of strengths of this particular photo are the following I think that I have framed it well in the centre so that you can see all of the buildings well I aslo made sure that I did not focused on a particular building because the whole landscape was meant to be the

Page 9: Task 4 final images review work sheet

focus . I also think that the use of colour is good in order to draw the audiences eyes .One of the things that I don’t like and that needs to be approved on are the weather on the days was not great .

5. One of the strengths of this particular photo is I think that I have made the positing on the shot very good I think that I is a goad angle that shows off the entirety of Salford quays as well as the two people in the shot . I think that I went overboard on the colour adjustment that makes it look slightly apocalyptic. I have also not done a good job on the cutting around the buildings it makes it look slightly jaggy

6. Some of the good things that I have included in the image. One is that It contains two of the most iconic buildings in Salford quays the imperial war museum and the hovies building. I aslo think that the lighting that I have used in this image is very good it makes it look like the weather on the day was great. One bad thing is that you can see where I used the clone tool at the bottom left.

7. With this one I like the positioning of the angel It shows of the bridge, buildings and the canal. I also think that I did a good job on the lighting it defiantly draws the eye of the audience so it should make people want to go to the quays .One thing that has been pointed out that is bad about this image is that there is a storage yard in the background which is usually considered as not being a nice thing to look.

8. Some advantages of this one is that we can clearly see all of the BBC buildings which could all be considered as being iconic for media city . One disadvantage of this Image is that it is a little dark and could be done with brightening up some more at the bottom half .

9. I think that the best part about this particular image is the framing and angles . I think that I have set up the cameras position right so I could get both the tram and the station in the frame. But I do think that this is a bit dark I think that I should of brightened it up .

10. I think that an advantage of this one is the sky has been made good colour which may make people wish to visit the quays. One thing that I do not like is the angel of the shot I wanted to try some different angel’s but I don’t think that this one has worked out very well .

Editing details1. The main thing that I did during this image was colour correction of the plants. I think that I

have done quite well at this I think that the colour of this looks very good it gives off a nice effect. But I do think that I could of improved the blending of the two colour contrast .

2. For this one I increased the brightness and the colour correction as well as cropping the image . I do not think that there was anything else I could do to improve the image with Photoshop I the only way to improve it was take the shot sooner .

3. For this one I used colour correction as well as brightness increase .I also adder a thin blue and white gradient layer that would g behind the sky to give it a nicer colour . Overall I think I have done a good job of this .But I think that the sky could be improved if took another photo of the sky at a later date when it was less cloudy. I could of got an image of the sky from the internet but that would be

Page 10: Task 4 final images review work sheet

copy right.

4. on this image I changed the saturation and the colour correction . I think by doing this I have made the colour of the image very good . But on the other hand it gave it a sketch like look which I don’t know if I like that or not yet.

5. For this image I think that I have gone over the top with the editing of it . I changed the colour balance and saturation . The goal of this was to give the image a dawn effect but I don’t believe tat has worked . I could of improved it by taking a photo of the sky at ether dawn or dusk and edit that Into the image . Next time I shall defiantly do that .

6.For this image I used colour balance and saturation . I also used the clone tool to remove someone with a camera of the photo. At first glance you cannot notice that I have used the clone tool .But if you look too deeply you can tell . I should practise on using the clone tool in order to make it look less noticeable.

7.For this image I used the crop tool as well as the usual colour balance and saturation. Also I made a tine layer of gradient over the sky . I think that this image has been edited to the best of the ability I think that If I did more work on it the photo would lose some of its realness . I always like to keep as much of the original image as possible

8.For this image I think I edited it very well . For this image I used the gradient effect for the sky which I think works particular well on this one . I also used colour balance and saturation as well I used the gradient effect over the windows but made it white so it reflects . I think the way I could improve this is by upping the brightness because it is a bit dark .

9. For this on I cropped the image as well as changing the colour balance and saturation. I don’t think that there is any that I could of done to improve the editing of it because I think by changing more it would ruin it

10.For this photo I used the colour saturation and balance tools . I also made a thin layer of light blue gradient in front of the sky . I could of improved it by putting in a different sky in by taking a photo when the sky has less clouds in it.
