Student Council: an advisory, deliberative, or administrative body of

students meeting regularly.

We do not have this type of advisory body in our elementary school.

Our grade 8 students do coordinate and assist with community outreach and school activities after attending a We Day by the end of September.

This year some of the We Day participants got involved in ECS LIT (Elementary Catholic School Leaders in Training.

We Day “We Day is an educational event and the movement of our

time—a movement of young people leading local and global change. We Day is tied to the yearlong We Act program, which offers curricular resources, campaigns and materials to help turn the day’s inspiration into sustained activation.” http://www.weday.com/what-is-we-day/

A family of organizations changing the world “We Day is part of a family of organizations, including Free

The Children and Me to We, that has a shared goal: to empower a generation to shift the world from ‘me’ to ‘we’—through how we act, how we give, the choices we make on what to buy and what to wear, the media we consume and the experiences with which we choose to engage.” http://www.weday.com/what-is-we-day/

Elementary Catholic School Leadership in Training

Some students are then chosen and asked to attend ECS LIT.

This is a Toronto Catholic District School Board after school sponsored program.

Students meet once a month with students from other schools in the board. Guest speakers are invited to help students learn about each month’s virtue. For example, February’s virtue was love such as loving your neighbour.

Students are then given an interactive task to complete within an certain time limit. For example, they made a stool out of paper to learn teamwork.

Some of the skills they learn, they use at school such as time management.
