Theme or focus of images These are photographs that were done by an artist named Brandon Knight his main artistic style is pet photography mainly dogs but he also takes cats as well. The photographs that he takes are portrait with the animal in a close up shot and in the centre of the photo. In a lot of the images it has the animal looking away from the camera which I think he has done to show the personality of the animal. The artist always makes the background a plain colour either white , black, blue or grey the colour of the background changes depending on the colour of the animals fur for

example with the pitcher of the black cat it has a black background which makes it look like it is coming out from darkness . The artist always sets up the animal in the right position in order to show of its personality the animal and gives the views different emotions 1st pitcher has desire ,the 2nd idleness 3rd predator 4th scared 5th joy the way he position the animals gives us the different emotions and there personality this means that no matter how many pitchers he take no two of them with give off the same emotion . in Pictor 2 and 4 he has animals alongside people , although he does this he never shows the persons face he does this because the photo is not meant to so people the main focus is the animal so if they show the persons face it would take some attention from the animal . But by having animal and human together shows the relationship between the two.

Composition

The composition of the images is a mid-shot of animal it also mainly the angel is ether straight on or side on to show the animal and can sometimes the camera can be slightly tilted. The lighting of the photos are usually shun at the sides on the animals with an exception of the photo of the cat which the light is shined directly at it .

Techniques usedShutter speeds – The shutter speed of this particular artist work would be somewhere around the 1/480 mark since with animals there is some slight movement with the head and body .The aperture will then be somewhere around the F24 mark . I then think that the ISO would be somewhere between 100 and 300 hundred

Rule of thirds- I think that the artist has thought about the rule of thirds when taking the positioning of the shot so that the animal is positioned on the intercepting lines

Depth of filed- The depth of field lets the background be in focus with this being in mind I think the aperture will be somewhere around the F24 mark but could go as low as F12

Strengths & WeaknessesStrength

I really enjoy the fact that he uses a plain background so it etherizes the animal

I like the natural look that comes of the animal I like the idea of animal human cohesion I like that they are in a close up shot so you can see all the detail on the

animal

weaknesses

Although I do like that the background is plain it might be better if the background was something a little more active

I also feel that when dogs are running around outside they look more natural whereas this seems a little unnatural

With the last picture the background blends into the dogs fur too much because they are both the same shade of white
