STATISTICSThe top grossing comedy films in the US are mostly PG and PG-13 and PG-12 in the UK. This shows that the largest demographic for comedy in general are children (PG) and teenagers. This also means that adults can and will watch these films meaning there is the largest audience possible. However there are a few R rated films that have done extremely well such as “The Hangover” that rely only on an adult audience as children are not allowed to see it.

One type of comedy that seems to be very successful are children's comedies. These (more recently) are mainly animations and are targeted at the family and include family friendly humour which appeals to everyone. Due to there being no age restrictions it means the film is accessible to everyone and if received well will be seen by lots of people

Another very successful type of comedy seems to be “PG-13” films that are intended for a more mature audience. These films are successful due to teenagers and even people older then them wanting to see a comedy that is more suited to their age range due to them having things such as violence, graphic scenes and dialogue that would not be permitted in a PG film. The genre of comedy also appeals to both genders so when a film is released I generally depends on the type of comedy which dictates which gender would stereotypically be more interested in it. For example a romantic comedy is more so targeted at women and teenage girls and includes humour that would appeal to them.

The film that I am producing would be more so targeted at people within the age range of 13-18. This is because of it not being suitable to children with the action and the start containing violence. However this is stereotypically something that perhaps male teenagers would enjoy and so would appeal to them. However the majority of the film is comedy that appeals to both genders and so neither gender is ignored. This demographic is also stereotypically the people who go to the cinema the most and is why PG-13 films are so popular so I believe this is a good target audience to have.

THE VIEWERHere I have included both male and a female viewer due to the fact that comedy appeals to everyone. This is because of the different sub-genres of comedy including action-comedy that may appeal more to a young male while a romantic comedy is targeted mainly to women. There are also other genres of comedy that just appeal to both genders anyway

I have chosen to have an 13 year old to represent a teenage demographic. This is due to the immense popularity of PG13 rated films such as “Austin Powers” that appeal to this demographic due to the comedy included in the film.

Here I have chosen to have an 18 to represent the adult consumers of comedy. As while PG13 films are very popular there are several R rate films that are extremely popular such as “The Hangover” that are very successful and are only seen in cinemas by adults due to their age rating

The outfit I have chosenIs of the typical teenager. It is very casual which is dueto always being in uniform when at work so when it is the Weekend these are the thingsThey would wear

My target demographic is 13-18Years. This is the age range of peopleWho are most likely to go to the cinemaAnd due to the nature of my film most likelyMaking my film a 13+ this is a suitable age range. It also seems that films with theseage ranges seem to be the most successful
